I hope this villanelle poem will "knock you dead" as they say. Better yet, I hope it inspires you to live today like it's your last.

From My Death Bed
by Me

I want to go to the time store and buy more
Another year another day to
Enjoy simple things I didn't make time for.

I would sit on the beach and watch the shore
Go to a still lake and fish from a canoe
I want to go to the time store and buy more.

I want to keep every promise I ever swore
Bake fresh bread to dip in cheese fondue
Enjoy simple things I didn't make time for.

I want to tell my kids all the family lore
Adopt kittens and listen to their mew
I want to go to the time store and buy more.

I want to paint a rainbow using every color
Mix and invent new colors with a unique hue
Enjoy simple things I didn't make time for.

On my knees, I would pray on the floor
Praise God for little things like morning dew
I want to go to the time store and buy more
Enjoy simple things I didn't make time for.

I praise God for the ability to consider what someone laying on their death bed might consider...even though I am not. (At least I don't think so!)

I love your poem simple and profound. I love rainbows and kittens and the beach. I am sure those are in heaven.
