The scope of this thread is for those who would like to lose weight together by counting calories only.
Nothing complicated.
Simply reducing your sum calorie intake, and moving more.

I do ask that certain replies not be made in this post, regardless of any good intentions.
*Please don't reply about the 20,000 types of sugars we should or shouldn't eat.
*Please don't reply with 20,000 nuances of carbs to avoid or not avoid.
*Oh and please don't reply with a highly detailed nuanced schedule of which times to eat 10 different tiny meals.
*Please don't reply with talk of 20,000 kinds of fat to avoid or not avoid.
*Please no talk of...Well you might just be losing water weight.
*Please no rants about processed food, and eating needs to be a lifestyle, not just a diet.

Honestly I find that after all of those nuances are given, many intending to lose weight get overwhelmed, and reach for a double cheeseburger and large fries.

So let's keep this simple.

1.We're counting calories.
2.We're moving more.

There is a helpful website and app called MyPlate MyPlate Calorie Tracker and Fitness Program | LIVESTRONG.COM
It helps you set up a recommended calorie intake plan based on your goals and exercise.

If you're interested in the calorie counting, use it.
I wouldn't get too caught up in the details, just keep it simple.

Again...keeping it simple...

Count calories.
Move more.

Even if you only lose one pound a week, after a month that's four pounds.
After two months it's eight pounds.
After three months it's 12 pounds.
Yeah that may seem slow, but guess what!
Three months is going to come either way.
When that comes, do you want to be the same weight, or do you want to weigh less?
Your choice.

To some this approach may be boring, unexciting.
Meh, so what. We're trying to lose weight, not stay in style and be trendy.
If you want to be trendy, go to a fashion show.

So who is with me in doing this?
I've been doing it for a few months and I've lost over 20 pounds.

That last line is the most compelling. You have already been trying it and it works.

To pair with myplate, try fitocracy for the moving more part.

1still_waters, can you send your excess calories to me? I am on a weight gain program so I would appreciate all the help I can get.

So am I. In the last 2 weeks I have gained 2 pounds. Now I am only 11 pounds under the minimum weight that I should be at for a 59 year old at 5' 11''. Gaining weight and sustaining it has been a struggle for me my whole life. I can eat whatever I want, as much as I want but having a high metabolism burns it off faster than I can gain it.

I've tried losing weight with that Livestrong MyPlate site many times. I usually end up in danger of hitting my calorie limit around lunchtime. :( I cannot survive on mostly fruit veggies and salad either! :p

You may need more salad dressing.

I will do this with you as I have already been on a lifestyle change and have lost about 35 pounds since May which is equal to about 7 pounds a month.

I can have anything I want no limitations just eating healthier and trying to move more.

So you won't hear me tell you that you can't have anything because this is real life and we are faced with real food everyday.

So count me in I know what my starting weight is for this experiment and what I have to loose is at least two skinny females. Instead of three I would just like to be me......The Blond has signed up....Lead on oh fearless leader.

I've lost 10 pounds in the last couple of months using MyFitnessPal. I've done this a couple different times, and each time, it WORKS. The trouble I have with it is that when something else happens in my life, I get sidetracked and stop logging my calories and exercise (and honestly, the only "exercise" I really do is mild stretching, a little walking, and occasionally I get this crazy idea to do situps or something).

The thing I really like about calorie counting apps (or websites) is that I can count most of my normal activity as exercise- I can see how many calories I burn doing yard work, or taking a walk pushing a stroller, or vacuuming. And when I see that I AM actually burning calories, I start trying to find other ways to burn more...without doing something like running a marathon, because running...no. Just no.

I would say to anyone who wants to try this to eat like you normally would the first day or two, but make sure to track all the calories- for me, seeing how many calories I normally consume in a day is a wake up call. Also, when you do it that way, you can see more clearly where you're getting most of your calories from, and find healthier substitutes for it or else cut it out entirely (though I'm not one of those people who can just up and STOP eating certain things...like bread...mmmmm bread....ahem, anyway).

What I'm trying to say in a sort of long-winded way is that counting calories and getting off my butt WORKS.

And now I want a cheeseburger.

This is all for losing weight correct? You know there was an old rude saying when someone asked how to lose wieght and the person would yell Put down the fork! However this is not how to lose weight in a healthy manner. there is a healthy way to lose wight and a non healthy way to lose wight. if you do it the healthy way then you after you are done your body sort of adapts to it and you gain weight slower because your body metabolism works faster.
Losing weight the unhealthy way will make you lose wight all though less than the healthy and added to that your body will gain the weight back easier.

I don't want to go against the threads guide lines so ima just make a thread about it

I've been logging calories at MyFitnessPal for 42 days and counting. Just trying to lose these last few stubborn pounds and maintain a steady weight. So far I've dropped 8 lbs.

Counting calories really has opened my eyes to HOW MUCH we put in our mouths without even thinking everyday. I've always been a chronic snacker, and I can eat half a box of crackers without thinking about it. Drinking a large coke from a fast food place is like instantly losing 30% or more of your daily calorie "allowance". Just thinking about that makes me not want a coke!

MFP has a bar graph that shows your intake and your "allowance" for the day. The visual really helps me to see how big a chunk something high-calorie takes out of my day. I haven't changed a whole lot of WHAT I eat... I think the main difference is choosing not to snack on junk food throughout the day. And candy/chocolate/dessert... seeing the calories in each serving just makes it not taste nearly as good.

I have to ask what might seem like a trite question, but do the rest of you find yourself feeling like you're starving all the time, to the point of having a hard time concentrating, while on such programs?

This is my number one deterrent in being able to follow such plans for the long haul. To me, hunger is like a headache--distracting, painful, and something I want to get get rid of so I can go back to doing what I need to do. In fact, I'm better at ignoring headaches than I am at ignoring hunger--I'll eat something fairly soon if I'm hungry but will often not take anything at all if I have a headache.

I would also like to know--Still, I know you wrote in a post a long time ago that you enjoyed fast food, and Cristen, I know you've told us about your adventures in the kitchen :)... Have you both (and anyone else who would like to contribute) found that adhering to these plans means you are doing a lot more of your own cooking?

A lot of times, you may not even be hungry Seoul. You may actually be dehydrated which has sensations that mock hunger. I usually fulfill that need with the obvious water intake. .
