Ok... so this thread was birthed from a conversation I had today with a friend about my arm being out of joint . I was asked "Oh, how did you do that ?!?! " Part of me wanted to lie and say I was boldly fighting ninjas and got put in a death hold or something along those lines, but alas the truth is what he got. I slept on it the wrong way. Yep , that's it... nothing more exciting. I thought to myself " darn... you know you're getting old when you can dislocate a limb in your sleep."

Have any of you guys had one of these moments ? If so please share so I'm not alone . Lol

I took my last trip to Israel with my best man to inform his family he was getting married (she was afraid to make the trip). He and his brother back in their teens were part of the groups that first started settling the Jews into the Arab territories. We went to one synagogue he had helped establish, it had been turned to a museum honoring the first settlers and those who had helped them. And in a couple pictures, there was my friend.

So I had to kid him - you know you're getting old when your picture hangs on the wall of a museum!

Ouch!!!

You know you are getting old when kids call you "Uncle". (In India, you call the elder men as uncles).

You know you are getting higher in numbers when you look at the ages on each post above you and you could be the Mother to all but one of them.....Ugh...Thanks for posting RickyZ as you are in my group.....lol

My age may say 59 but my computer tested my insides as 22....If you read some of my posts you may agree with the computer....lol

But yes, Pipp I have what I call my roving pain that will show up for no apparent reason, hurt like the dickens for 3-4 days and then magically go away to show up months later in a different spot.....Has never been diagnosed and even went to the doctor to try and figure out what it is....He could see the swelling and knew of the pain but couldn't tell me what was wrong....Who knows? Just those numbers getting higher that's all......

Truly though sometimes I feel younger than the young people because I have noticed that they can sometimes be grumpier than me at very young ages, makes me wonder why sometimes? Not saying it is anyone that has posted here just something that this higher number aged person has noticed.....Maybe they feel older than I do on the inside......There is something to be said about decided happiness which I have most all of the time.....It is a choice not a feeling.....

You know your getting older when you feel like you have to give unwanted advise to younger people......lol

when you're only in your early 40's and you wake up every day with excruciating pain..

when people twenty years older than me call me: miss, maam, dear..(true story, lol) :)

when your 14-yr-old cat still plays like a kitten, and you can't..lol

Reminds me of a joke I heard.....

"When you find yourself straddling the side of the bathtub and you can't remember whether you were getting in or getting out.

When you are only wearing half of your clothes and you can't remember whether you were taking them off or putting them on."

Mine:

When you hear your mom coming out of your own mouth.

When you need something from one of the high shelves in your kitchen, remember when you used to run and jump up onto the counter to get it, and the jump seems to be getting a whoooooooooooole lot higher.

When things like "like a boss" make absolutely no sense to you.

When you start listening to more country music and hiphop gets on your nerves.

When you go shopping and want to redress the mannequins because stuff doesn't match.

When you and your friends have adult children.

I am getting higher in numbers too. You may feel 22 years old inside but your counsel that you provide is ageless.

Pipp, your original post was hilarious and I would most definitely go with the version that you were fighting off ninjas! LOL!!!

I felt old the other day when a co-worker and I were excitedly talking about Spiderman (the Tobey Maguire versions), Total Recall (Arnold rocked!), and Robo Cop (Peter Welling!) -- the Originals -- or at least, what WE knew as the originals... and how most of today's movies are pretty awful.

The 20-somethings in the room had no idea what we were talking about, and some didn't know that the remakes were actually remakes of older movies.

You know you're getting old when 60% of the movies, TV shows, and songs you grew up with have been "remade"... and you find yourself clinging to all the original versions (maybe in an attempt to preserve your youth?)

Additionally, as I have complained about often, older men have tried to hit on me my entire life. When I was in my teens, men in their 40's and above would try to talk to me.

Now that I am 40 myself, I often have to smack myself upside the head and remind myself that 40-ish is now supposed to be my official age range!!!

On the other end of the spectrum, I was mortified to find out that a young male co-worker who would occasionally make catcalls in my direction (the joys of working overnights) is just 20 years old. I wrote one of my friends about it and she wrote back, "You tell that 20-year-old guy that you may be old... but you still know how to dial 911!!!"

Indeed. Maybe I should just give up talking to men altogether. When the 70-somethings try to talk to me, I feel as if I should call the cops... and when the 20-somethings try to to talk to me... I feel as if the cops should come and slap the cuffs on ME.

I guess the moral of the story is... Talking to the opposite gender can get someone arrested!!! :D

All your favorite music is in the bargain bin at Wal-Mart.

I used to laugh at my father telling him old when he reach his 50. Now I´m old and, what keeps me "young" is the awareness of my limits and limitations... It is sad when we´d daydream ignoring certain truths or limitations.
I´m thankful for being alert!

I was first diagnosed with arthritis in my early to mid 20's... so the whole aches and pain thing is NOT a sign you're getting old, ok peeps? :D

I did however, start feeling old one day when I was in my 20's and a girl at the mall had tried to flirt with me. I had dismissed her jailbait self as politely as possible, but later saw her with another girl who was very attractive and carried herself well. I was debating talking to this big sister of hers as we were walking opposite directions towards each other, then I heard the first girl whine, " buuuuut mooooooom...." and I ducked into the bookstore.

Other ways I know...
my kids have a disdain for kids shows on TV.
College kids call me sir...and they're not ironic hipsters.
I remember dressing Retro, but now the kids are wearing what I wore when I Wasn't dressing retro.
I still listen to hip hop, but want to be the saggy pants police with a portable compressor and paslode stapler.
The music that takes me back to high school has moved from the classic rock station to the oldies station.
I saw a truck while I was in high school with an antique auto plate.
I hear they dug up a time capsule I helped bury while in elementary school.
and the list goes on...

When I was young, I could be embarrassed by so many things. My self-esteem was so fragile and I could be victim of humiliation over the most trivial circumstances: accidently wearing two different colored socks, dragging a length of toilet paper stuck to your shoe, being called out for a ridiculous error in front of your classmates, falling down the steps in public, messing up an important project at work, speaking in public and bumbling it, etc. etc.

Now that I'm older and wiser (in the Lord), I don't so much worry about things like that.

I was at a deli counter some time back when I heard some snickering behind me. I turned to see a small group of young ladies laughing and pointing at the ridiculous rainbow socks I was wearing. I laughed, too and lifted up my foot almost shoulder high (I do Pilates which keeps me in pretty good shape for an older gal :) ) and pointed to my sock and said, "Ya like 'em? Pretty awesome, huh??" The girls were mortified. They quickly turned away, redfaced and seemed afraid to even be caught communicating with me further, like I was a weirdo or something. heehee.

Anyhow, you know you're getting old when the things you used to feel embarrassed about now embarrass other people and not you.
