You both deviated from "words that make you cringe" to "words that make your mouth water". :rolleyes:

Anything people use as a ready-made phrase instead of saying what they really mean. This includes, but is not limited to:

"Whatever" which means "I don't agree with you but I can't be bothered to actually use my brain and explain why I don't agree with you;

"Yeah I know right" which means "I agree with what you said but I want to put a sardonic twist on it;"

The latest movie's popular catch-phrase which almost fits the current situation, so they use it instead of using their brains to generate a sentence that actually means what they say;

Almost all the popular quotes from Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail - come on, it was a good movie in a satirical way but it has been way overdone;

Any profanity - cussing is the attempt of a mediocre mind to express itself forcefully. I could (if I wanted to) express displeasure or put someone down much more effectively with well chosen words than with any profanity.

Speaking of which... I went to a dinner one time where, for a full ten minutes, quotes from Search for the Holy Grail were traded - word for word, and without context - in lieu of real conversation. It was depressing.

Now, my late granddad, he used some words and expressions that could make anybody cringe, but I dare not put them down in writing, cause that would get me in trouble...but there's one expression he was always using when he was mad at somebody (he often was), and that was: "That (---) sc(----)ag, I'll teach him how to don't!"
