What was something you learned today? It can be a fun fact, a life lesson, something from your studies (school, Bible study, etc.), or perhaps something about yourself or another person, here or outside of CC.

If knowledge is power, and sharing is caring, then...well, you get the idea. :p

So, what was something you learned today?

Hmmmm something I've learned from here.....

Oh! You can learn so much just from talking to people. Especially here, since you can talk to people all over the world :D

Very true! (The thing you learned can be from anything, anywhere, and anyone, not strictly here on CC, though that's cool too.) Thanks for the reply!

Today, I learned an astronaut received a tool he needed (a wrench) via NASA emailing it to him. :D

Nasa just emailed a wrench to space (Wired UK)

I learned yesterday that I should not even think about making any kind of attempt of humor on CC after working all night long, being up better then 19hrs.
With that learned!.. Today I know not to post to any serious heart felt, or Godly threads when ive been up all night again.
I did learn how to subscribe to some threads of my choosing today, for responding to later.

I learned that I can't make 3 batches of candy one day, 2 batches of cookies another day and then think I can wake up in the middle of the night and continue functioning so today the pie I was suppose to make turned into a batch of cookies and I quit in exhaustion. In other words I bit off more than I could chew in three days with not a lot of sleep.... I must be getting older...ugh...60 in three days (23rd)....I guess I am old...Oh fooey!.....I just learned I am getting old...No Say it isn't so........I am an old Blond.....

I am glad that we got married when we were still young.

I learned you can use a 3D printer to make a wrench... or a handgun.

I had to go reading through online forums to make my roomie's USB drive show all its old files that were hiding on it. I figured it out, but I only half understood the command string used to make it work. So I kind of learned something, though I'll probably need google's help again if I ever have to repeat the task.

You could just reformat the drive. Or if retrieving the files was required, most of the user-friendly Linux distros have a "show hidden files" command. Just open the folder, click on "View" at the top and click on "Show hidden files."

Yep that was the first thing I tried, but it took a little longer to find all that stuff (stupid windows) and then it took a little longer to set it right. Reformatting was an option, but I wasn't sure if roomie wanted all her stuff back or not. Did convince my roomie that she needs to clone a mini-me to keep in her computer bag though (of course I got tasked with actually figuring out how to clone myself as well). A world with a bunch of copies of me running around… hmmm now there's a scary thought. Attack of the clones 2: Buried in Cinders…… coming not so soon to an alternate reality near you.

Clone... disk image? Or just a backup of all needed files on a flash drive?

It's really easy to clone my Linux Mint install because it's already installed on a flash drive. The whole show is running from the stick. If I want to make a system backup I just clone this stick to another flash drive (dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb) and presto, the new stick is a bootable, functional clone.

Did you misunderstand or are you just getting excited about talking geek? I meant clone myself… as in having several cinders running around to do everything that people seem to want me to do, to be able to be in 2 or 3 or 4 places at once, etc. But someday I do want to learn how to do that whole run the operating system from a flash drive thing, I think that would be cool and quite useful. Maybe I will see how much of a computer geek I can turn myself into if I try.

It's not difficult, and with a more modern computer, it runs quite fast from a USB. Thanks for sharing the experience!

All you can do is your best. Be content and at peace even when those around you are not. Don't sweat the small stuff. The bigger the stuff you've had, the smaller the small stuff gets. Make the moments in between joys joyful also- because otherwise if you fast forward your life to each joyful moment you would have a short life. Dont wait for joy, choose joy. I rejoice in the Lord always because the joy of the Lord is my strength that gets me through this life. And we may not be able to control the weather outside, but how do we effect the weather inside, as far as it depends on us? If someone is going through a storm will you bring a ray of sunshine? It's not all about you and what you're going through, be willing to help others with what they are going through. And she who can laugh at herself will never cease to be amused.

I have learned...

I have learned I don't know everything. And the more I learn, the more I realize how little I know. Only those who know nothing think they know everything. Those who know more realize they don't really know much at all.

I have learned to listen more to those who talk less. They only talk when they have something to say.

I have learned to keep my mouth shut more when I am offended. Chances are they didn't mean to say that the way it sounded...... and if they did mean it that way, they are probably too rude to apologize if I confront them about it.

I have learned not to worry so much. Most of the things people worry a lot about won't matter the next day, much less in ten years. I will do my best - things I can not control won't be helped by my high blood pressure.

I have learned a person who is telling me something negative about someone, will be gossiping to someone else about me. Count on it. I've learned to avoid people who take delight in telling about the shortcomings of others, because their talk brings me down.

I have learned "What she said he said about me" is not important. As long as I'm in God's will, God will take care of me. Me stressing about rumors is only a product of my pride.

I have learned that on my own I'm not so hot. Only when I'm doing God's work, and leaning on Him instead of taking pride in my own ability, only then do I have any trace of talent.

I have learned when God says go left, not to go right. I could choose to go my own way, but I have learned (from experience) that is an astoundingly bad idea.

Multiple people have told me recently that one thing they like about me is that I never change. Looking back on all I've learned, I sure HOPE I've changed. There's so much room for me to improve.....

Things I have learned from my dog:

1. Always assume people you meet are friends unless they do something to prove they are not. You might get hurt once in a while but you meet a lot more friends that way.

2. Wag more, bark less.

3. There will be some grumpy people in life. Just avoid them. There are a lot more nice people than grumpy people anyway. And above all, don't let the grumps make YOU grumpy.

4. Be glad to be here, wherever here happens to be. It's a big, wide, wonderful world and you only have one life to explore it. There's no time to waste growling about life.

5. If you're stuck in a boring situation, the best thing to do is take a nap. You'll need your energy when the boring part is over.

6. If Master says "NO" stop doing whatever you were doing and look innocent. If Master says "NO" every time you do something, don't do it anymore. I think dogs are better at this one than humans...

7. Don't waste time worrying about basic stuff like food and shelter. Master will take care of that. He's the one who brought you to his home, he wanted you here, he'll supply what you need. Worrying about stuff like that takes time away from the good stuff in life.

8. Sometimes Master will do some strange things that you don't understand. Don't worry about it, Master knows what He's doing. Trying to figure it out can make your head hurt.

9. Although you can't always figure out what Master is doing, you should be there when Master is doing something. You never know what will happen, and you probably don't want to miss it.

10. Spend less time inside and more time outside. Outside is where the interesting stuff is.

11. Be thankful for everything, even if it's the same old food every day. It's FOOD!
