And now, an idea straight from the streams, yes it's your very own thread. Dogs versus Cats. Who will win, who will lose? Or will it all be a tie? And now, LET THE GAMES BEGIN.

Cats are smaller than dogs.

Cats are self-cleaning.

Cats use the litter box without even training them to - they just naturally do.

Cats eat when they are hungry. Dogs eat whenever there is food they can reach.

Cats purr.

Cats don't bark whenever a leaf falls.

Cats can climb trees (and despite the rumors, they are quite capable of getting down by themselves. Sometimes they're just not ready to get down yet.)

Cats can instantly make you feel better by curling up in your lap.

Cats are dignified. I have never seen a dog yet that was not less dignified than every cat I've ever met.

Cats can be trained to use the toilet. Though they don't have the body mass to flush, they also will never leave the seat up.

Cats don't have to be let out to pee.

Cats can spend hours on a window sill watching traffic go by. Ever tried keeping a dog occupied?

Cats catch rodents. We have a mouse problem right now. Never had that problem back when we had a cat.

So... what do dogs bring to the table? =^.^=

a dog a delighted to see you when you come home.
a cat is wondering where in the world you've been...tapping a little foot...

a dog will go with you in the car without creating some kind of accident
because it's under the clutch.

a dog will lay atop your chilly feet and keep them warm.
a cat wants you to move over so it can have the easy chair.

who am i kidding...we have two cats and i'm grateful. :)
(but i do miss the dog)

Actually we had a cat named Spike who would ride with us anywhere in the car. We could take him through the automated car wash even. He'd just lie on the dash and watch the water go back and forth. Take him to the landromat, he would saunter in between the rows of washing machines. Come time to go, we'd call him and he'd come out with cobwebs in his whiskers.

Speaking of cats only eating when they're hungry: If I wanted to go on a road trip for a week I could leave a pile of cat food and a pan of water out and my cat would be good to go. I could leave a pile of dog food out and a pan of water and my dog would eat all the food the first day.

Which reminds me - cats can also be self feeding. A friend of mine once had a siamese. He was in chat one day and suddenly said, "Yay. My cat is now self feeding." Seems he put the cat's food bowl on the floor and put the food bag on the table above the food bowl. The cat chewed a hole in the bottom of the bag. When he got hungry he would jump onto the table and give the bag a SLAP! Food fell out the hole, into the bowl, the cat jumped back down to the floor and ate.

His cat also became self watering. He said if he left a half full cup of water sitting around the cat would pick it up and carry it around. I don't think the cat got much to drink that way, but he just liked carrying the cups around.

do you ever wonder how long it will be before we have to have car seats for animals?

Cats are smaller than dogs.
Not exactly a universal pro.

Cats are self-cleaning.
So am I, but I don't brag about it!

Cats use the litter box without even training them to - they just naturally do.
Except for when they pee on your air mattress, as my aunt's cat did to me.

Cats eat when they are hungry. Dogs eat whenever there is food they can reach.
Bless them!

Cats purr.
And hiss.

Cats don't bark whenever a leaf falls.
If a leaf falls in a forest, but nobody is around, do they not hear a cat bark at it?

Cats can climb trees (and despite the rumors, they are quite capable of getting down by themselves. Sometimes they're just not ready to get down yet.)

Cats can instantly make you feel better by curling up in your lap.
Except for when they curl up in your air mattress...right before they pee on it.

Cats are dignified. I have never seen a dog yet that was not less dignified than every cat I've ever met.
I am not sure whether to "spit or wind my watch" in reaction to this. :p

Cats can be trained to use the toilet. Though they don't have the body mass to flush, they also will never leave the seat up.
Wut? Does/do your cat/cats do this, Lynx?

Cats don't have to be let out to pee.
No, you just need to scoop their clumpy litter.

Cats can spend hours on a window sill watching traffic go by. Ever tried keeping a dog occupied?
Depends. Which breed of dog? Gotta hand it to dogs: diversity in breeds offers diversity in temperament, which makes for...well, diversity.

Cats catch rodents. We have a mouse problem right now. Never had that problem back when we had a cat.
So do traps and pellets that don't require a litter box, window sills, laps, or falling leaves. You also have a cat problem. :p

You forgot to mention that those cats would be fine on their own for that time frame whereas with dogs you're gonna have to get someone to come by a couple of times a day to let them out to take care of business. Back in the days when I was single and only had 2 cats in the house I could be gone for about 5 days without needing someone to stop by. Anything over 5 days or so I would have to get someone to stop by once to clean the cat box and check their food and water.
