This thread is for silly warnings you have seen. And because manufacturers don't want lawsuits, there's a bunch of them.

Reminds me of a Dilbert cartoon. The boss says, "Someone did something stupid and fell off a swivel chair. Now we all have to take a mandatory swivel chair safety class."

And for the record, yes that story is true about a woman suing McDonald's because of a hot cup of coffee burning a sensitive area. And yes, she did win the lawsuit. Nobody knows why.

Saw a handgun box with a warning, "This product can cause injury or death if used improperly." No kidding, a handgun is dangerous? This is what happens when lawyers have too little to do... or when they just want to get more money to buy another yacht.

Saw a Surgeon General's warning on a pack of smokes that said that smoking may complicate pregnancy. Seeing as how I am a guy I should be OK.

There was a warning on a Bengay tube... "Not to be taken internally."

Do you know what this means? Somewhere, someone turned to someone else and said, "Hey, wonder what this would taste like on a saltine cracker?"

She won because the coffee was way too hot (180-190 degrees F) to be served safely. It was the last bit of coffee at the bottom of the pot which was simmering on the coffee maker for a long period of time before they served it to her. It caused third degree burns all over her legs and sensitive area even though she was wearing pants (not just shorts or a skirt). If you look at the actual images of the burns you would think she had been set on fire. That is not an exaggeration. They are online if anyone wants to google it. The jury originally awarded her almost 3 million but the judge brought it down to $640,000. McDonalds had several opportunities to settle out of court but refused.

It always makes me smirk when a phone recording tells me, "If this is an emergency, please hang up and dial 911." I'm like, "I just want to pay my auto insurance premium..."

Well I sure hope it'll irritate the eyes. Unless someone sprays it at me... Though why anyone would spray an innocent little lynx that just wants to hide and wait for them to go away, I have no idea. But if I'm using it to make those pesky humans go away and leave me alone, it had sure better cause some irritation.

sometimes you wonder if "common sense" is really very common at all...

Probably a mistranslation... though when we took the Children's Church group to the local zoo I did see a sign at the croc pit. "The crocodiles are alive. They just stay very still. Please do not throw things at the crocodiles to get them to move. They might swallow them, which would be bad for the crocodiles."
