Here is a lovely symphonic poem based on a wildly interesting (to me) story.

Wikipedia excerpt

"a Persian king and his new bride. He is shocked to discover that his brother's wife is unfaithful; discovering his own wife's infidelity has been even more flagrant, he has her executed: but in his bitterness and grief decides that all women are the same. The king, Shahryar, begins to marry a succession of virgins only to execute each one the next morning, before she has a chance to dishonour him. Eventually the vizier, whose duty it is to provide them, cannot find any more virgins. Scheherazade, the vizier's daughter, offers herself as the next bride and her father reluctantly agrees. On the night of their marriage, Scheherazade begins to tell the king a tale, but does not end it. The king, curious about how the story ends, is thus forced to postpone her execution in order to hear the conclusion. The next night, as soon as she finishes the tale, she begins (and only begins) a new one, and the king, eager to hear the conclusion, postpones her execution once again. So it goes on for 1,001 nights."

Isn't it? The phrase you hear between 00:19-00:30 seconds is the Persian king's theme, and between 1:01-1:09 is Scheherazade's (the princess) theme, and you can hear how the orchestra plays with both by varying the tempos, changing the instrumentation (differing sections will play it), and there's a DELIGHTFUL theme introduced by the woodwinds in the 2nd movement (my favorite) around 09:16.

If you're vaguely interested in this kind of thing, I also highly recommend checking out 'Peter and the Wolf' or 'Carnival of the Animals' and looking at how the characters are represented in those songs.

I have heard of this boredom stuff, but unfortunately I have not had the time to investigate it. I hear it's not much fun though.

Tell you what Andyrew, if you'll come over and help me with a few things I have going I'll have time to look into this boredom thing for you. You could start by helping me with some new music I've been meaning to listen to... And some new friends I was going to meet when I have the time...

Brother Zeroturbulence, I used to laugh myself simple watching epic falls/fails. But since I fell down last October while hiking at warp speed up a steep incline and fractured my elbows and damaged my knee cap, I can hardly watch your video without cringing in agony. *gaaahhhh!!!* LOL!! :D

Now let's add this entertaining bit of... ummm... "singing" (and I use that term loosely.) This man is seriously creepy..... :p

The past, the present, and the future walk into a bar.

It was tense.
