Because we've had the Rachel's and others post recordings of them making beautiful music here lately, and because I know we have talented musicians here, I thought I would make a thread where we can share our music with each other.

So go ahead! Make music and post it here :)

Hey, ChandlerFan, I know I have a thread about this in the music section, but I figured I'd take you up on your offer and post my link here as well (if I may). My name is B-Unknown. I'm a rapper/pastor-in-training from the Pittsburgh, PA region. These are songs from my upcoming E.P., Lamentations. Thanks so much, and let me know if it's a problem to "double post" and I'll take this one right down. :)

I play a few instruments. When I have free time (rare), I'll record and upload a cover. :)

The ones with a song title and a group or singer name are the songs someone else did. The ones labeled "soundtrack" are the ones I did. I like to sing those songs at church, so I made soundtracks for them. Some are... um... not as good as others, as I learned while I was going.

"Chasing After You" is the last one I did and the one I like best. Though no doubt, as I learn more I will eventually go back and listen to it and think, "Man, I wish I had done this different."

"Jesus is a Rock" was the beat-all easiest one I ever did. I can see why people do techno so often - anyone can do it.

ChandlerFan:

1) Do you have an actual microphone/recording thing? Because the quality is amazing.
2) YOU PLAY PIANO HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS. I used to play piano and I wish I had stuck with it.
3) Your guitar skills are amazing, I hope mine sound like that someday!

How did you make those? Those are cool!

I played them on my piano. You really should pick it back up. You can do amaaaaaaazing things these days with a MIDI keyboard connected to a computer.

Like play electric guitar:

Or play acoustic guitar:

That song was written for two guitars actually... he's playing both parts.

I also have a really realistic trumpet, bass guitar, drums, a piano that I sometimes bring up just to hear it... mmmmmm! and a lot of other stuff here and there. I wouldn't play them onstage at church of course - with the best of intentions on my part, the focus would still be more on me playing than on God - but for making soundtracks this is the best way I know to go.

By the way, anyone is free to use any of those soundtracks. They are CC licensed, which means you can't steal them and then sue me for "copying" you but you can do pretty much anything else with them as long as it doesn't violate the copyright of the original song.

I did change a few things in some songs. In "Chasing after You" I added a bridge - "He wasn't perfect / Not by far / But still he was a man / After God's own heeeeaaaaaart." In "Jesus is a Rock" the kids at church sang that, so we cut out the last chorus where they all sang different parts, and we changed "I'm afraid the Lord might come one day / And I wouldn't be ready to die" to "Cause I know the Lord will come one day / And I wanna be ready to fly" for obvious reasons. Laura Story's "Blessings" was word-for-word though, as was Selah's "One thing I know."

It's actually funny, the microphone that I used for those is the one I broke today, and it's actually just a plain old skinny USB mic that you plug into the computer haha. I was pretty surprised at how well it recorded guitar. It doesn't record piano so well unless it's actually inside the piano. I'm going to miss that mic!

The piano recording is actually from my grandpa's funeral. I played How Great Thou Art at my grandma's request :) I was shocked that I made it through the whole thing without messing up, not because I was distraught (the tears came soon after the song, though) but because I get super nervous playing piano in front of people. I'm okay on guitar, but piano is a lot more nerve-wracking for me for some reason.

And if you keep practicing, I have no doubt you'll sound like that :) In fact, we should start a band!

So, if I got a mic like that, it could pick up my guitar and singing better than my webcam? Are they cheap?

That's so sweet about your grandpa requesting that and you played it when he went to meet his Savior. I can imagine how hard that would be.

Well I bought that mic like 6 years ago so I can't promise that any mic you buy at the store would sound that good. But hmm...maybe I'll buy another one and if it sounds good I can tell you what one I bought haha. I think most mics are going to sound better than your webcam mic, though :)

It would DEFINITELY sound better than your webcam. Webcam mics are... well... I can't say what they are cause I don't use those words since I got saved. But any real mic is better.

Yo, just wanted to drop by and say I listened to the links everyone posted, and everyone sounds super good! The rap that the one dude posted was cool and I listened to some more of his stuff, and the ones by Lynx and ChandlerFan were really impressive; very soulful and beautiful. Keep em' coming!

Hey ChandlerFan, I just checked out your SoundCloud music, and I really enjoyed your playing. Especially your piano piece "How Great Thou Art". Good work, Brother.

I have definitely not been blessed with the talent of playing musical instruments (like many here on CC clearly have been), but if I may be allowed, I will post a video here I put together where I created my own beat (using beat-maker Dub Turbo), which I made to go along with the Old Testament event regarding Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego (which is one of my favorite parts of the Old Testament).
