This thread may have already been done before. But with some new threads about cheap date ideas and should the man or woman pay, I thought it'd be interesting to hear some stories on having a date turned awkward. What was the most awkward date you had ever been on, and did you see the person again once it ended?

Does it count if we didn't know it was a date?

There was this woman who watched my kids when my now ex and I were still together. After we split up, I'd get together with this lady so that our kids could play together at the park, she was also in the middle of a separation, I thought it was just nice friendly friends supporting friends. Then we decided to do coffee, again, a friendly outing of coffee with a friend so we could support each other. Well when I got to the coffee place, I met this girl there and she was waaaaaay to dressed up for coffee. Thankfully while there I found a friend from church and pulled him over with us until we left.

Two weeks later I get a text from her husband (also a friend of mine btw) asking if I was still dating his wife.
"Ummmm, I was never dating her..."
"That's not what she told me."
"Well then she failed to tell me we were dating because this is the first I've heard of it."

In retrospect, I see how ignorant I was of the situation though

I may have told this story before but it's funny and weird.

Date picks me up, I walk out to the car and try to open the passenger side door, it doesn't open. He says, it's broke you need to climb through the window. I said, no, he says, even my Mom does that.

Classiest date ever! I never crawled through the window and broke up with him at a Danzig concert in Cleveland. That period of time in my life was nuts.

So, the real question is, what happened after you said no? Did you get in from the driver side? Or took a walk instead?

I should have walked but I got in on the driver's side. I was young and didn't have a lot of self esteem. If it was a few years later, I would have walked and never gone out with him.

Well, I've only been on 3 dates with one person from an internet site and he ended up being...a bit of a uh...character (read: a bit psychotic). I am pretty sure he thought that I was the one by the second date. I was so certain of this, actually, that on the third date when he said he "had a surprise for me at the mall", I was absolutely terrified it was going to be a ring.

He ended up taking me to a puppy store, which was actually fairly sweet and thoughtful. So, I picked up a puppy and was sort of holding it like a baby, and then I asked if he wanted to hold it, and as I was passing it to him, he said, "This is like practice."

WHAT.

We didn't have another date. :) I was fairly certain after the second date that I knew that I didn't think this would pan out, so that was partly my fault for going on a third date.

Yeah, well, you said you went to a Danzig concert, so clearly your judgment was already impaired.

The busted car door was the least of your problems. Thankfully, it's all behind you now.

I went to the movies with a girl and she wouldn't stop talking through it. The people behind us started telling her to hush and she got up and started sassing at them. I just sat there, awkwardly. Didn't know what to do. That was the only date we went on and after a littlebit she said she wanted to get closer to God and end things with us before they got serious. She's engaged now and I'm... Well, not so much.

Maybe he just really, really, really loved holding and seeing you hold puppies? :p All seriousness I'm glad nothing happened and you got out of there before anything bad could happen.

Strange that he tried to use his mom to get you to crawl in. I don't think I've heard of Danzig. How'd you get home from the concert?

Yeah see that's a common thread around here.

I can see it from a man's perspective - we're used to asking (and getting turned down), but I don't get why women don't get asked.

I mean, she'd have to be incredibly shy or something, or she'd have to be terrible at flirting (women often think they are better at it than they are- men need clear signals, and I mean clear, about as subtle as a train wreck). Those are the only two reasons I can think of.

I'm not saying you're going to get asked out by a keeper, or even that it won't be someone who isn't a disgusting human being, but still, it ought to happen from time to time.

I've shared this before, but ...

I went on a bicycle riding date, picking her and her bike up to go to the bike trail by the river. She announces that her bike's brakes don't work, but I should try fixing it "because you're the guy." I did mention that I would bring along a tire pump, so I guess she assumed I would provide full bicycle maintenance. I somehow manage to fix one of the two brakes and we load the bikes up and are soon on the trail. Halfway through the ride, we stopped at a park, and she expected me to help her with her gears ("because you're the guy") because they weren't acting right (they worked fine, she just never learned how to use them).

After the miserable bike ride, we go out for ice cream. She treats the poor ice cream girl like crap, then later while we are having our ice cream says, "Can you believer her?" as if the ice cream girl were in the wrong.
No. Just. No.

She seemed to enjoy herself. Didn't have a clue she was so obnoxious. A couple days later she says she can't date me because I am divorced, citing Matthew 19:9. Alrighty then....seeyabye!!!!

worst date ever. even worse than the ear-biter

I had a lunch date with a guy I met for the first time after we texted for a few months and it was a bit awkward but I dont know why I dragged him to attend a wedding party after lunch and he invited me to watch a movie after the wedding. Maybe I was trying to make the most of the moment hoping the awkwardness would go away...but it didnt.

I rode home with him and thankfully 2 very nice friends of his, one was a woman and she was really cool. I'm glad we weren't alone.

Well let's just say things weren't good then, well because they weren't. Actually Glen Danzing has a nice voice, his lyrics aren't so nice.
