In light of Mother's Day approaching, I thought it would be good to have a thread dedicated to mothers, specifically in a way that demonstrates the wisdom they have passed onto us when we were children growing up and even now as adults (because sometimes moms just never stop talking!!!).

As a child I was bugging my mother once and she said to me "Go play in traffic, it will be good exercise for you." That is how I learned the importance of health (and the life-saving ability to dodge quickly). Thanks Mom!!!

My mother also told me once "If you want to succeed in life, step on the heads of those more successful than you." I think she meant "Stand on the shoulders of those more successful than you." Either way, thanks again Mom!!!

What are some precious pieces of wisdom your mother's have taught each of you?

"My mama always said life is like a box of chocolates, if you get too much of it, you throw-up."
- Forrest Grumpy

P.S. I would like to give an advanced Mother's Day wish to all the mothers here on CC (I don't mean advanced as in 'your old' but advanced meaning................ ahhhh, ya'll know what I mean!!!).

"Do not forsake your mother's teaching. They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adore your neck." - Proverbs 1:8-9

"Because I said so."
Not exactly wisdom, but something I'll always remember my mom always told me.

"Lift with your knees, not your back." I know a lot of people my age who have chronic back pain. Man, it was a pain hearing that so much, but it saved me a lot of pain.

"This is going to hurt me more than it hurts you." I always thought, "Well then, let's trade places!" But she was right.

"Go ahead and cry. The more you cry, the less you'll have to pee." No comment.

My mom is a huge part of who I am. As I have mentioned in previous posts I chose to drop everything to take care of my mom when she started to have some health issues. When I first chose to do this, it was really difficult but I learned to be patient (something I am still working on), put others first, put God first, enjoy doing household responsibilities and now I find them to be a hobby of mine. My mom would always make sure that my sister and I had everything that we have ever needed which meant she had to go without. She also taught me when I am scared or unsure about something to bow my head and pray. I know that I can never be as good of a mom as she was, but I want my kids to be as big of a priority in my life as I was in hers.

My mom would tell me to do things right the first time.

What about, "Don't make me turn this car around"?

OR

"Stop touching the windows and leaving fingerprints"

"Stop touching the windows and leaving fingerprints"
The only time my mother told me not to leave fingerprints was when we robbed a liquor store together.

Good times!!!

My mother taught me so much.
"smile or laugh when someone tries to bully you or put you down. It will make them wonder and stop for a while."
She taught me how to cook. "Never let your sister open cooking spray again."
"stand up for what you believe in and those you care about"
She is really amazing. The whole time I was in the hospital, she stayed with me. I was in an unfamiliar place for 2 months(Boston, I am from a tiny town) I had a familiar face and very loving mother during that whole time.

My mom always would tell me to smile when things get rough because that is showing the enemy that he can't have his way.

Totally agree here. I used to love to pick my scabs only to have them bleed.
my mother told me the same thing until I dug a rock out of my knee......she taught me to be stubborn and not let pain get to me. I have been known to work through lots of things...all because I learned that from her

What my mom used to say?

I had that habbit of jogging my leg... my mom would get frustrated and shout at the top of her voice "stop that jogging".... the neighbors must have thought there was a health nut in the house!! hahaha

I have definitely heard some of the things already posted.

Something my grandmother always used to say:

"There's more than one way to skin a cat..."

:)
