Last night God was telling me to send a friend of mine an email and I kept arguing with him about it because of what he was wanting me to send them. I finally told God fine and humbly listened to him. I can tell you after I did that I felt peaceful and it was the first time I slept well in a few weeks. I just pray they take it well. Have any of you experienced something like this before? If so please share. What is your first thought when God does this?

All the time............ and I used to resist most of the time. Anymore, I usually go ahead and do it.

Yeah, to quote the Borg (and to date myself) Resistance is Futile.
My experience with God has been that he really is good at making us sensitive to his voice.

I can't remember what they were now, but I've had times like that and I did obey even if it took me awhile.

I know a lot of my issue is, is my pride. I cannot stand my pride and wish it would totally disappear. Am I the only one who struggles with their pride in issues like this?

ask the father to reveal through HIS WORD, how many times yahshua or anyone he sent went and spoke

to someone, and they were and are to speak only what he gives to speak without any concern nor even a thought

about what the response will be (as far as delivering the MESSAGE / HIS WORD directly, accurately, simply).

when we (i, me, myself, et al) think of how others will feel or what they will think, that is a trap - a deception to
try
to get us to "please" others instead of pleasing GOD HIMSELF.

when we speak boldly and simply what GOD'S WORD says to speak/ alive, living, abiding in him speaking what he speaks daily,

others will often misinterpret us, accost us, jail us, beat us, and put us to death, as well as shame us or try to silence us;

and GOD simply says "whatever I speak, you speak" "whatever I do, you do", without any thought of self,....
without any thought of what others will say or think or what they might do to us.

i.e. GOD and HIS messengers, his vessels, are not "socially correct", not "polite" , not "politically correct"
and in
so many ways NOT what all of society and its schools and its churches and it religions say to be....

unique in all the world (GOD DWELLS WITH MEN).

finally for now -- the PEACE of YAHSHUA HAMASHIACH will (GOD'S PROMISE! HIS WORD) keep our hearts and minds safe and secure and guarded in HIM and by HIS WORKING IN US ---

"let the peace of CHRIST RULE (guide direct and keep your actions and thoughts) in your hearts and lives" as it IS WRITTEN.

I was in a group prayer once and God directed me to pray for this one lady's healing. I argued with him silently about it...telling him that he doesn't heal those kinds of diseases...she was too bad off and it was stupid to pray for healing. Then I remembered who I was talking to and prayed for her healing.

Found out later that she went into full remission.

Continued obedience to God can lead to awesome things. I think two years or so ago I got a message from someone I barely even talked to because they felt like God wanted them to tell me something. This person thought I would be weirded out, but I really wasn't (even though I should have been), and we've consistently had conversations since directed by the Lord and I feel like we've both grown because of it, I know for a fact I have least. But yeah, by their obedience of sending a random off the wall message it started a huge friendship that both of us really value.

I've also been on the end of NOT obeying God, and I hate it. Even if the repercussions are seemingly inconsequential, they can be debilitating, whether it's for the sake of my spiritual growth, or for the sake of others. It's painful.

And as I write this I realize I need to do something I've been slacking on doing the last few days.

Stupid Stupid Stupid

Stop writing here and do what you're told

stop!

STOP!!!

Heh. Have you ever been called an angel?

We were in church, it was one of those services where God was moving and the schedule was out the window. I'm a pacer, I usually walk when I'm praying, and I happened to be walking at the back of the church. My uncle Fred was sitting on the back pew, far left row and God told me to go pray for him. So I put my hand on his shoulder and prayed for him a minute, then walked on.

So now he doesn't have to take that pill to manage his diabetes. And he was talking about it later and I heard him talking about feeling a hand on his shoulder, but when he looked up nobody was there. His theory was it was an angel. I ain't telling. And he doesn't read this forum.

Something thats helps me is to remember jona and the fish. Since God is soveriegn he technically allows us to feel as if we have a choice to be obidient. However He is a God who commands and His way will take fold into your life. So if you resist then God will send a big fish in your life to swallow you up and bring you right to the place He commands in your life

"Take a word from the story in the Bible
About Jonah who disobeyed
Cause the fish that swallowed up Jonah
Might still be alive today"

I always get tickled when I hear that song.

Sometimes. And sometimes God has to kick my butt pretty bad before I'll do it. There was even one time when God told me point blank, "This is what I'm telling you to do, now are you going to do it or not." I think I can universally say though, that the fallout is never as bad as what I was concerned about when I obey. I just put myself through a lot of stress and uncertainty by delaying obedience.

There are so many great answers here I don't have anything to say that hasn't been said before.

God has this thing where, if He wants me to do something, He doesn't let me go. I have problems sleeping as it is but if God is after me about something, I will literally be up for days until I make an action. You'd think I'd have learned my lesson by now but as Cinder mentioned, I'm always afraid of something bad happening and therefore delay my obedience (and by "delay", I mean that I kick, scream, walk around with a big picket sign over my head).

However, in the end, I'm always reminded of the saying, "Your arms are too short to box with God."

Silly me. I keep trying anyway.

Is there an example in Scripture where someone was disobedient to God and it worked out well for them?

Is there a lesson to be learned from this?

like peter denying yahshua 3 times; remember definitely he wept bitterly when he realized the truth, and he repented, turned back to obey always, and was forgiven.

he didn't just turn back and obey once or twice.

like king david, after his sin, after he repented, he turned back and obeyed every day.

one needful thing, that most of the world and the religious folk only (i.e. in religion but not in jesus)

miss, that almost everyone misses, and it takes diligence, it takes effort,

is "meditate upon the WORD daily, day and night" in grace always, all the time seeking yahweh the creator and
his will and his purpose in yahshua hamashiach (jesus the messiah) ---

every day, every minute, every --- well, all the time... those devoted to him don't participate in many of the things
the worldly take part in .... (for which read revelation, the last book of HIS WORD)...

which things even many 'religious' think it is okay to continue in, or to dabble in, or to do without thought,

which yahweh will in his grace and in his time and at his pleasure
separate his children from as they willingly and joyously seek to ABIDE IN HIM (a continual abiding, a constant being in prayer all the time - during work and during rest and during going out and coming in....
yahweh's presence all the time, yahweh dwelling with men, ABIDING ... continual, never interrupted...

I'll say something hopefully not too controversial. Esau and Cain both disobeyed God and they lived abundant lives as opposed to people like Jacob and Elijah who suffered greatly until they were blessed. But the Bible says that God hated Esau, yet he had a lot of land and power. Sometimes I think there is the temptation to disobey God because it will work out "well" for you in this life to compromise with the world and be a part of its sins/pleasures. But at the end, the person who was faithful is rewarded. So ultimately its the Ables and Jeremiahs who overcome and the disobedient who are lost.

All this to say that there is usually a lot of gain to be had in the flesh when we are disobedient. So it's a matter of choosing loss and sacrifice over wealth and material success.

The first 26 chapters of Job are essentially an argument as to whether or not the righteous and blameless can have suffering and punishment meted out to them when they do not deserve it. The answer, of course, is yes...because if the righteous and blameless are never to suffer (even as they do not deserve it), then how do we explain the punishment of Christ, the supremely righteous and blameless? And conversely then, if the righteous can suffer, can the unrighteous be seen as prosperous and blessed? (Furthermore, aren't we all unrighteous without Christ?) Job, therefore, becomes a pale shadow of Christ...the ultimately righteous who endures the ultimate suffering.

But of course, the catch comes in the very end, when the righteous and justified are finally...FINALLY rewarded, and the unrighteous and wicked are finally judged. So in the end, it's never about blessings, prosperity, judgment, and suffering HERE and NOW...but about what we receive when we stand before the throne. ^_^

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go to church. To teach my Sunday School class. Where we've been studying Job verse by verse. *grin*

I'm curious as to whether or not knowing that it's a really bad idea to disobey God makes it any easier for all of you out there to just obey right away without question.

Unfortunately, I still haven't lost my fight. I've had two instances (and more that are other long stories) in which God told me to give away about $2000 each time ($4000 total) that I'd saved or earned from scholarships and believe me, I went kicking and SCREAMING!!!

Finally one day I went to the kitchen to look for a snack and when I opened the door of the fridge, God very clearly said to me, "Has this refrigerator ever been empty?" ARGH!!!! He totally got me, hook, line, and sinker. There was no way I could fight THAT one.

Half the money went to a couple at my church who had just tragically lost a young niece (they needed help buying plane tickets to go to her funeral), and another was for a mentor who was participating in a ministry but needed help with start-up costs.

The only reason I mention the amounts is because to me, it was a HUGE some of money... might as well have been a million dollars... and I had SUCH a hard time giving it to other people, even for good causes. I. Did. NOT. Want. To. At all. Yup, I still have that old prideful, sinful, stubborn heart every time.

So for all of you out there who KNOW it's a bad thing to run from God's call but do it anyway, right away, without question, no matter what the physical, emotional, or monetary cost... How do you do it?

by remembering jesus WORD, "unless you give up everything, you cannot be my disciple"

as

corrie ten boom lived her life - hold everything in an open hand, it is GOD'S , to give as he pleases.

and

as "they claimed nothing as their own" --- even their own lives! (they were not afraid of death, and many died for their faith....

not in acts,

but yesterday and this morning/today, 04/2015... yes, many died TODAY for their faith, considering not their own lives worth protecting
when offered a chance to live if they would deny their faith.

simply , everything is GOD'S, all of our possessions, and even more so, our hearts and minds and souls ,

to do with as HE PLEASES. (and yes, he tests everyone(it seems) to show they are truly trusting and relying on HIM and not on the flesh/ not on the job/ not on the retirement account/ not on ssi).

the widow had no other savings nor income - she put in all of her substance as an offering to YAHWEH,

and her faith is spoken of all through history all around the world by those who

read HIS WORD.

I always see weight and food as a "simple" example we all face every day when it comes to obedience to God.

We all "KNOW" we shouldn't overeat or constantly reach for the wrong things. The other day I was in line behind a woman in a motorized chair who was picking up prescriptions--she talked about being on 22 different medications, and her body was to the size that it could barely fit in the chair. I'm not saying this in judgement at all--I could easily be that woman myself. How many of us, even if can still walk, need to lose more than "just a few" pounds?

But the woman's son, who looked to be in his mid-30's, fit, and healthy, was telling her sternly that she needed to choose foods that were healthy for her rather whats she regularly chooses to eat, "even if they don't taste as good." The woman had been talking like she wanted sympathy from him but when he pointed out that a good part of it was in her own hands, she just hung her head and said, "I know, I know."

I would say that most all of us KNOW. In fact, human beings KNOW a lot of things. But choosing to do the right thing?

Ironically... two plates--one with something we love and is unhealthy, the other with someone we detest but is good for us--is all it takes to illustrate how easy it is to disobey what God asks of us.
