Hey everyone,

(I honestly didn't know how many threads I'd written on CC until someone pointed it out to me in another thread, so today I was thinking, Might as well pass that milestone! :))

I had a conversation with a friend I grew with about the various milestones we look forward to in our lives. I don't know if it seems like this to anyone else, but when my friend and I were young, it seemed like there was a constant stream of milestones to pass: moving on to high school (we went to the same Christian school K-8th grade), turning 13, getting our license, first car, turning 18, graduating high school, turning 21, graduating college, living independently, getting our first full-time jobs, first house or apartment...

What happens after you grow up and all the "major" milestones (at least here in the USA) have been passed? My friend now looks forward to her kids' milestones as way of constantly setting goals and having something to look forward to.

Me? Because I don't have a family of my own and the possibility of marriage feels like "something somewhere out in the great beyond", I often wonder if my only milestone left... is applying for Medicare and social security!!!

What are some major milestones that you've met or passed in your life? Did you feel overwhelmed, excited, or were you just glad they were over? And now that you may be older, what milestones are you looking forward to (or maybe even not looking forward to) next?

I dunno about milestones as the majority measure them, but I remember a great revelation when I had my first paper route job. I saw a duck phone, one of those telephones shaped like a duck, and I realized with something of a shock, "I could buy that if I wanted." I didn't want it, but the realization that I could buy it with my money, without asking approval from my parents, without asking them for the money to buy it - I could just pick it up and plunk down the money for it and it would be mine!

Alas, soon after I began to have bills and the magic was gone.

How ironic that the magic of the duck phone was lost after you saw (wait for it)... the bill.

(Wah wah wah wah...)

Great story, Lynx! :)

Milestones mean change, change means uncertainty, uncertainty makes cinder very unpleasant to be around.

Having said that, the next big milestone is finishing the story project in about 5 months (hopefully, not that I'm counting or anything), packing up and heading back to the US of A. At which point ummm, yeah I have no idea and don't feel like I really want anything (though I have several things on the don't want to do or be like this anymore list). Which leads to way too much uncertainty, which is why you are all being forewarned that cinder may not be so pleasant in the coming months ( not that pleasantries were ever my strong suit).

As far as milestones,

I feel all of us believers should give ourselves pins and stripes like they do in the services of America for being spiritual warriors. Actually it might be our highest power giving us the medals of honor but I imagine it something like that. I can remember when friends would say I am volunteering at the hospital( or whatever may be a cause) and I felt inside they should get marks in heaven for that.

Theres always school as a milestone. Even if one has a degree they might return to get something else. Also a person can always write a book. Another thing is to learn another language. Get a rosetta stone program or go to workshops or online or something. Just ideas for more milestones.

"What are some major milestones that you've met or passed in your life? Did you feel overwhelmed, excited, or were you just glad they were over? And now that you may be older, what milestones are you looking forward to (or maybe even not looking forward to) next?"

My first met milestone would be the survival of my four kids when they were babies and toddlers. When my twins were born, I had four kids that were 3 and under, my oldest was 11 but the younger 4 were demanding…I remember praying to God and he told me "it's just temporary." I was exhausted and drained, but the beautiful part was having my children's arms around me and their little bodies snuggling against me when they wanted to be held. The first milestone ended when the twins entered preschool for 1/2 a day. This milestone was huge for me, keeping all 4 kids fed, clean, in one piece and alive!!

My next met milestone would be surviving my divorce with 4 young kids. It was a challenge for me because I was a stay at home Mom for 10 years and then having to share 50/50 custody with my Ex; I was miserable when the kids were not with me, the loneliness was terrifying;but with God's guidance and his grace; I had a great job, my kids eventually was old enough to express they wanted to live with me full time without any contest from my Ex. My Ex and I are very cordial, we attend all school and sporting events together, our main focus of course was our kids. My third child is a senior this year and is getting ready to head off to college this fall. I'm relieved as I see the light at the end of the tunnel. Proud that the first three are on the right track, I give all the glory to God!!

My twins are 16 and the next 2 years will fly by….my next milestone will be experiencing life as an empty nester, I'm apprehensive about that...

Good thread - definitely worthy of being the 400th thread :)

There were events in my life that could well be perfect candidates for milestones such as going back to finish college that took me ten years or finally going back to a out-of-state grad school to finish my master after I was dismissed in my first term due to medical condition - and I can also see how obtaining license that I've been studying for years can be a good candidate for milestone. However, they just don't take spots in my life (or heart) as milestones somehow - yes, even the license I've been studying to obtain, though I will be happy for sure, is not significant enough to be considered as milestones somehow.

I can see two events in the future that can surely take a spot in my life, proudly proclaiming as milestones for sure: (1) just waking up, unfamiliar ceiling, realizing there's a woman in the bed next to me, in deep sleep, then suddenly realizing I got married yesterday; and then.. (2) holding my first child in my arms.

Ok ok.. two of my most favorite milestones..

- attending my first concert (Rush) and watching my favorite drummer live. After all the people cleared out I walked towards the stage and got a good close look at the crew dismantling his amazing drumset. This is a moment I will always remember. The pic below is the actual set I'm talking about..

The first milestone in my life was after high school. I had the courage to be myself inside! Though I suffered for it at the time...I refused to bow to the prom queen! Years later....I'm happy I didn't! :)

After crossing the path from milestones achieved in my life to now (personal freedom and salvation), my next milestones include restoring my dad's old Model A truck, now mine. It's going to be "hopped up" like they were in the old days. And my other goal is to build the ultimate Blanket Fort...lol...well why not?

Things have progressed in my time here on earth. The Apollo missions are over, so I can't be an astronaut :(
But I can meditate in there until my next life partner joins me in there. ;)

It's 2:30 in the morning and I have to be dashing off to work soon... But it really sounds like you all have had some incredible events and achievements in your lives. VERY inspiring and uplifting, thank you!!

I hope others will continue to share!

Having kids was a major milestone, watching them go through milestones is like going through them again. I guess my next major milestone will be seeing my children grow and maybe get married and start their own families.

Good question. I think after I reach all my milestones, I will write about them and die looking at the Rockies. :p

(Zero--that's just a regular day for me!) Making 2 AM my usual "time to get up" is my most recent milestone! :D And there are some days when I finish up, go home, try to sleep for a few hours, then turn around and go back in at midnight.

As Huey Lewis said... "Workin' For a Livin'"...

I'm not exactly known for my sanity, hon. :D

After all, I keep coming back to CC...

Would you believe, God actually makes some people for the early morning hours... and I happen to be one of them. :) When those hours became available, I asked for them. Even starting when I was a little kid, I used to get up at 4 AM or earlier to do my homework, right on through college, and would take a nap before I had to go to school in the morning.

I love being awake when most others are asleep. I love the still, quiet calm. Sometimes I've referred to myself as being a "Reverse Vampire". :) Don't worry though. I won't try to drain your life essence or steal your soul.

At least not this morning (it's 2:30 again), because my schedule is pretty full. I'll pencil you in for Friday. (Another milestone!)
