Hey everyone,

This is a question I've been asked several times over the years and I'd like to ask all of you the same. I've been seeing a lot of awesome threads here lately (I'm sorry I haven't had time to reply to every one but I do try to read at least the original post of every new thread in Singles) and I'd like to see where you all come up with your ideas. Was it something you read, heard, saw, or experienced?

And, what moves you to respond to a post or thread? What convinces you to share, make a comment, or write about your own experiences?

I guess when you're writing down your own thoughts, you often can't see how you're coming across to people. It only recently dawned on me that because I ask a lot of questions, some people might see me as a helpless, indecisive person who can't do anything without asking someone else about it.

The real truth is that I have always enjoyed communicating my thoughts in writing, and in a way, my threads are like a journal of the various things I encounter or think about in my life. It can be anything from a magazine article I just read to a scene in a movie I can't get over to a conversation I had with someone this morning at McDonald's. The real secret is that the great majority of my threads are NOT meant to ask anyone's advice, but to get people talking to each other.

The goal of my threads is always to start a good discussion in which people feel comfortable to share and get to know each other in a safe, supportive environment. Many of my threads are not even about me. I often write about things I see other people going through, and there have even been a few times when people have asked me to write a thread for them but want to remain anonymous, so I tend to write it from my own point of view in order to safeguard my "ghost writer's" identity. :) I also sometimes write about things that have happened in my own life in the PAST, which is why I ask readers not to get too caught up in the examples. In other words, I've often already dealt with the topic at hand so my purpose isn't to ask advice, but instead, I want to know how other people have or would have handled it.

The examples I use are usually just meant to be just an introduction and "welcome mat" that one can step over in order to join the discussion.

One of my other favorite past times in the threads is to look for cool people with whom to start running gags. I love it when people can get a good string of jokes going off each other's posts! :) (I suppose some might see that as a "friendly form" of trolling... But... It's just so much fun!!! :D

How about all of you? What inspires you to "ask questions" and "keep talking" to others here in the threads?

I dunno about anyone else but I make posts like I would reply in a conversation in a room with a group of friends. To wit: I say what I think about a given topic. If I want to talk about something nobody is talking about, but it's something too heavy for the streams thread I start a new thread to discuss it.

Yeah, I'm kind of a simple person. What you see is what you get. No complex motivation from the depths of my psyche.

My idea for threads are completely random. Usually it's just a spur of the moment question I think about that I'd like to hear other peoples perspectives on, or it's just something I find humorous that I'd like to share here just to keep things lighthearted (though apparently people still have the ability to take ridiculous things seriously, but ANYWAY)

I respond for any number of reasons. Sometimes looking to give advice or add to others advice because I like helping people and I didn't go through the things I went through just to keep it to myself. Other times I troll, or make sarcastic remarks just to keep the mood light, and help everyone realize not everything has to be serious. And sometimes I just like reminding people of my good looks. I mean they're there! It's kind of hard not to talk about them right?

And sometimes I just miss Descyple.

when a private is newly stationed in afraganisteran,

how does he figure out what to do ?

he is in enemy territory. surrounded by strange or sometimes not so strange people and circumstances,

mostly unknown to him.

and the LORD JESUS said to his disciples "I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of ravenous wolves"

and

the LORD JESUS said to his disciples "be as harmless as doves"

and being a new creation in him he tells his followers >>

[h=3]Colossians 3:17 (KJ21) | In Context | Whole Chapter[/h]
[SUP]17 [/SUP]And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father by Him.

Colossians 3:17 (AMP) | In Context | Whole Chapter

17 And whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus and in [dependence upon] His Person, giving praise to God the Father through Him.

Colossians 3:17 (EXB) | In Context | Whole Chapter

17 Everything you do or say should be done ·to obey [or as a representative of; L in the name of] the Lord Jesus. And in all you do, give thanks to God the Father through Jesus.

and in many other of HIS WORD he says basically, do nothing in nor of yourself, but what the father in

heaven does, do; what the father in heaven says, speak.

this requires daily, constant, abiding in prayer, staying in constant continuous contact with the father and

the son. this is what is written IN HIS WORD. and it is entirely contrary to the world's ways and to most

all religious ways. it is spirit, and LIFE! ABUNDANTLY! YAHWEH DWELLING in and with us in him.

this is the goal,

to be sought day after day after day, once for all, and every day after, forever....

giving up the life of death and corruption that the world is and does and remains of,

and living the life of resurrection in yahshua hamashiach, jesus the messiah come in the flesh, resurrected into heaven by his father (and ours who dwell in him)....

this is marvelous, GOD'S WORD; GOD'S DOING; GOD'S ACCOMPLISHMENT.... through and through...

as it is written IN HIS WORD.....

I have no idea, sometimes a random thought pop's in my head and for some reason I feel the need to share it with others.

The majority of my threads are written from personal first-hand experience with certain subjects, such as my depression, suicide, and uterine cancer threads. I share my story with others in the hope that whoever reads them will be inspired and encouraged to not give up. The rest of my threads are just fun ideas that I came up with, and/ or that other members asked me to start. :)

I use a technique to help me gather my thoughts or to get a new idea for a thread. I align my ear to the direction of the breeze. As the breeze enters my ear, it passes through the ear canal and stimulates the receptor nerves which are in my ear. As the neurons transmit the signal to my brain, I take deep breaths to stimulate my thought process. The increased oxygen that my brain receives helps it to interpret the signals that reach it from my ear. My brain then tells me what to type. This is a very scientific process although some call it "plucking an idea out of thin air".

I reply to threads that are relevant to me. I also look at the antecedents of the posters before replying to a thread. I tend to avoid threads that are judgmental, provocative or confrontational. Plus, a bit of humour is also much welcome. :)

Let's see. Most of my thread ideas come from things I'm thinking about. Sometimes it's that I'm thinking about what other people might think and want to test my thoughts to see if I was coming to the right conclusions. Other times, I feel more like having a sacred cow barbecue (sacred cows make the best burgers or so one book title said) and this is a place I feel a little more safe to challenge things I've always thought. On my current list of future thread topics: one was inspired by a conversation with a friend, a few are inspired by frustrations with churchiness which I seem to have a lot of these days, and some of inspired by other discussions or posts in singles, but a bit of a different angle on the topic (because I'm always looking for a generally applicable principle rather than the solution to a specific situation).

I admit sometimes I make threads because of what is going on in my mind and like to discuss these things but I don't make a ton of threads because usually if I am not lead to make one about a certain subject I see no point in doing so. I am not one who is able to simply write stuff in order to make an actual post to put words together it has to be because I am moved to or else I just have a blank mind and have no idea what to write.

Like when I am writing a short story for instance. I have a gift to be able to write amazing stories but only when I am moved to and only about something I am passionate about and honestly it rarely happens but when it does I have made ppl cry with my stories i have touched others hearts and I have been asked to publish a few of them but I rarely am ever inspired to write one so I just do it as a hobby and when I am inspired to do so

For me, when I come up with something and usually related to me or what I know, I start a new topic. And as for answers or jump in conversation in the forums, I would give an answer what I know. That is all.

I always have one or two ideas for a thread, but never get around to posting them for some reason. Like today I was thinking about making a thread about... [oh look, a squirrel!!]

About 98% of what I post is something I am currently going through or experienced. The remainder 2% of what I post is something I have witnessed a friend experience and want a different take on the issue.

OK I'll be honest here.. I do get a lot of ideas for threads, not just any thread but potentially meaningful threads, but when I get the urge to start one I am reminded of what will likely happen based on past experience 1) most people will likely miss the point of what I said 2) Those who don't miss the point will be critical of it (and of me), and 3) I will regret making the thread and 4) I can't delete it.

..and that is why we can't have nice things! :p

I feel your pain, and I hate it when that happens. Or when you're trying to be serious and someone turns it into a joke.
