You went on a vacation or a party without your kids? Where did you go? Did you enjoy or have any guilt?

The last vacation I went on was in January, I went to Australia without my kids and had a great time. No guilt at all but after 10 days of being away from them, I was ready to go home!

You meant alone?

So I´m always on vacation...

And the visit me on demand (or when needed me to provide those things they lacked)

PS

Oh! No guilt and NOT missing them.

Just loving them the way they are.

Yes!

One single guilt I felt a couple of weekes back:

Alex wanted me to take her to a cyber shop and, since she delayed more than I wanted to wait, I missed her up...

When Joy phonecalled me to tell me: "Dad! Alex is crying and shouting a lot" ... I realized the DANGER my selfish attitude could have ended up:

What if she had run -downstairs- too fast and, at that rush, she had broken her bones...

When I pondered on MY SELFISHNESS (not having given her more time to get dressed) I felt this huge guilt I felt recently because I wanted to give her a lesson but, if she had run downstairs... That would have borken my heart, because I love her a lot (no matter a friend had told me that I´ve spoiled her, sometimes)

May the Lord see our guilts, our love, our needs to be alone (and with private intimacies) our KIDS had contributed (unadvertely) to isolate the lives we had wanted with our LOVE partners, those we married to enjoy, privately.

Hey Jeni bean!

Are you planning to leave them while you visit Aussielands?

Perhaps -I don´t know- next thread could be: "Who knows a good (and cheap) baby sitter I can hire while I travel?"

Seriously now:

When Josh was my baby, I barely traveled or went out without him (he was my mascot).

Yes!

I partly missed up those days.

YES - I am sure I will travel to "Aussieland" on my own, if and when I can afford it. Also yes I do find it sad there is so few single parents on CC. Although I have the same problem at my church. I find it heartbreaking, it demonstrates to me that most of the single parents must not be Christians. I cannot imagine my life without GOD!

I think there are a lot of single parents on CC. Hopefully more will show up in this thread. :)

My kids are 19 and 16 years old, so definitely not little anymore, but I have lately been leaving them for trips. I feel like I spend a lot of time with them in our day-to-day life, so I don't have guilt over leaving them for periods of time to do something just for me. When they were younger I was married, but we still would leave them with grandparents for a weekend here and there to spend time alone. I don't think this is unhealthy, and you shouldn't feel guilty. :)

I agree with Grace, you shouldn't feel guilty at all. We need time alone to rejuvenate!

I am a single parent, things just aren't ideal for me to travel right now. Although a trip to Nebraska is in the works (hobby- related). And I will enjoy it very much...

Other than that, it will be a while before I go on a long trip, due to health concerns I am in the process of fixing. Slow process.

But in the future I plan to travel more. A trip to CA to visit family in the plans too.

That's too bad about your health concern Jeremy, I will keep you in my prayers.

Jeremy, I will pray for your health concerns to lesson. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your hobby related trip to Nebraska.

LiJo, I suppose I would feel guilty as I rarely do anything for myself. I place every one in my family before myself and I imagine I'd be on a trip alone some where thinking, wow my kids would love this. But then again you never know. Time will tell. I take business trips often, however they are never fun and I feel guilty I have to leave for work. I think my son (the youngest) has those puppy dog eyes down!

Jeni,

I can relate.....as a single Mom I feel we have to compensate so we rarely do anything for ourselves.

Funny because my youngest son is the same way, he's 17 now and he gives me the sheepish smiles when he wants me to do something for him...lol....still melts my heart :)

Thank you LiJo, you truly understand. We do indeed compensate. I know I do more so than most as there is no father around and I carry the guilt that he just abandoned us all those years ago. So I am always trying to compensate in every area I can think of so it never really stings that they have no father. My daughter knew him and my son never met him.
