I have seen a couple ladies on the forum mention they have been subjected to some dirty old man types... I believe they should have mace and use it when they feel subjected to these kinds of men.....What do others think ?

I think that mace can potentially escalate a situation! So exercise caution! But it's definitely "Christian" to deal with creeps, and not "throw your pearls before swine" lol.

If I'm confronted by a dirty creep, and I have mace, I will use it. I think the Lord would be proud of me :p

I got so confused right now... the only "mace" I knew was the medieval weapon... but google saved me...

So, yeah... depending on the severity of the situation, I would use it...

"Is It 'Christian' To Mace a Pervert?"

Are you kidding?

I've hosed down 3 weirdos already this week. And it's only Thursday... 3 more days to go.

Wow. Won't THAT be a Sunday to talk about:

"What'd you do this weekend, Kim?"

"Oh... went to church... Maced 3 perverts... Went to Bible study... You know. The usual."

I say, Bring it on! I'm going for the record, y'all. WHO SAYS SINGLE LIFE IS BORING???!!!

Oh my goodness! I can't tell if you're serious or not! Have you actually maced someone? I find three in one week... excessive! Please tell me you're not being serious lol.

Let's put it this way...

Mace is expensive. I even have a separate category for "Self-Defense Aids" worked into my budget (I've found mace is slightly more discreet than numchucks... and, as a bonus, it doesn't do as much to promote racial stereotypes. :D)

I may need a second job just to cover the costs...

*wink, wink*

(In all honesty, there have been a few times where I WISH I would have maced several people... for a variety of different reasons other than being a pervert. For instance, the server at a restaurant who said in front of everyone, "OMG!! How can such a tiny little girl eat so much!!!" Ahem.)

You run across a weird guy who you find repugnant, so you attack him with a chemical weapon? Don't be telling that around. That's assault, and you might end up in jail.

Mace is prohibited in Canada, at least it was when I was wanting to buy nunchaku (numchucks). I found out that they're also prohibited, btw, but that was almost thirty years ago.

About the most serious self-defense item we can carry is a Fox-40 whistle. I had one blown in my ear (foolishly, not because of something I was doing wrong) and it slowed me down for quite a while.

I think it's quite okay for a person who feels physically threatened to defend themselves and slow down the "attacker" but only in the case of "clear and present danger". Unfortunately, that is subjective. I'd suggest that those who do carry mace, (or numchucks ) use it when there is a physical threat (not just verbal), a means of escape, and without any warning.

Just my ivory-tower opinion. I'm blessed not to have been in a situation (as an adult and Christian) where my physical safety was threatened.

Oh, I'm one of those annoying types.... after I blush red to the root (what? I'm a blusher) I'll calmly ask them if their behavior/words are appropriate and ask what it is they hope to get out of this.

It's so unexpected for people who are used to victimizing others to be treated like real human beings. I figure that if I can care about them just a little, maybe show them Jesus? But if it's a violent situation? I'll defend myself.... if I can't run away, I'll go down fighting. Haven't had to hit anyone in a very long time. I prefer not to... hurts the hand.

I see nothing unChristian about defending oneself from danger, and I carry mace with me. But I'm not going to use it on someone just because they're pervy and creepy and possibly ogling me. If they show signs of getting physical, that's another story.

That, and don't bring it to the self defense thread.

Seriously. If you mace a man, and he retaliates.... YOU are the aggressor, and the one in the wrong. He is actually defending himself at that point. And there are many, many cameras all around these days to back him up.

I love this post so much! The English language is stupid. Here in Australia, we call 'mace' or 'pepper spray' 'capsicum spray', and yet I don't think it contains any capsicum. That said, most people don't even own any, because Australia is generally safer, except for all the animals that try to kill you.

People have to use common sense along with self defense. But I can say, after some of the things I've been through, I would rather mace (or punch, kick, scream) first, ask questions later, if I truly felt I was about to be attacked. Some things are far worse than going to jail.

Yeah... It was the woman's fault for being out in the first place... I mean, doesn't she know she's supposed to stay in the kitchen and submit to her husband, like the Bible says?
