Why do people get too offended by the topic of masturbation?
Why do they go GRRRRR when someone says it is a sin?
Why can't we simply agree to disagree without name-calling?
Why can't people reason out together and be benefited?

Today morning I logged into my Facebook account to see a long thread of debate on a Christian group where people normally share their posts and links- prayers, verses, ideas, books, blogs, etc. Many times I have seen some "Christians" share romantic novels which contain mild sexual descriptions. To me, that is soft porn.

But when some poor guy shared a book on masturbation and what the Bible says about the same many people pounced on him and blasted him for calling it a sin and sharing a book containing Bible verses. I wonder if people get offended about this topic due to the fact they feel guilty.

Bible doesn't talk about masturbation. So I got curious as always about what the Bible "SAYS" for I was sure it doesn't say anything. I bought the book (I love books & it wasn't a huge risk to impart a dollar) and I found it pretty impressive.

Why is masturbation a touchy subject?

PS: I am sharing the details of that book in case someone wants to read it.

First of all...I'm tired, but this is funny. I'm sorry.

I wonder if people get offended about this topic due to the fact they feel guilty.
This would be my guess.

In all seriousness though, I do think this would be classified as defiling yourself. I mean you can lust in the heart before committing any action.

The only shame is that the owner continues to allow this word to show up on the index page and not on a password protected forum.

Actually, the bible DOES talk about masturbation. I don't remember book, chapter or verse, but it's in there. :)

People doing a search may find a discussion here and the wrong element might become members.

I may catch heat from the staff for my post above this one, but I don't care, His obstinance is tiring.

Now now Blue, you can't say that without actually listing the scripture reference! :p

Hi BabyTeddy!

Why do people get too offended by the topic of masturbation?
Maybe because people do it and feel shame about it. It's a private affair, after all; something not usually done with a lot of exposure and for good reason. There's also just a lot of harsh judgement about it.

Why is masturbation a touchy subject?
Pun intended? :p :p

Let me just ask one question, forgive me if this is a little blunt but its partially rhetorical. How many of you out there have not been sexually active for the past two years and have not engaged in masturbation for the past two years? If so, please testify. I would love to hear YOUR personal view on the matter as anyone who meets this criteria is probably the most qualified to answer.

You claim to be 84 years old.

Do your great-grandchildren know you spend all your time talking about masturbation?

Arrrgh!
I have told this in almost all my posts starting with my 1st post. I joined here to seek Biblical counseling about giving up on my ex-BF who was stalking me. I was pretty depressed and scared when I joined here. You can go to my profile and see see my VERY first post was about my ex-BF.

Now after recovering from that BS, I realize that he wouldn't have found out if I used my real age. My name might give away more about me if he comes across my profile (if that's possible). Back then I was feeling HUNTED. I just wanted to be older so that I would be invisible.

I am not pretending to be younger to attract men. I was just goofy enough to add 50 years to my original age. -_-

PS-I have no kids or grandkids. -_-

Thanks for responding on my post. Many people masturbate but some argue that it is not a sin.

I want to share what the author says when he proceeds to explain about how masturbation is a sin. He opines that we are called to use discernment in understanding masturbation. Like the Bible doesn't elaborate on the various ways of stealing and killing, it doesn't explain what all constitutes adultery.

Well, masturbation is a sin for it involves lusting, & usually for someone off-limits. One way it's adultery, the other sodomy.

It might have something to do with leaving the natural use of the woman/man in marriage, rebelling against/refusing God's holy ordinance.

In my distant past, every time I did it a lot of condemnation followed, but the condemnation was not from God.

Question: "Masturbation - is it a sin according to the Bible?" - Bible Questions Answered

Answer: The Bible never explicitly mentions masturbation or states whether or not masturbation is a sin. The Scripture most frequently pointed to in regards to masturbation is the story of Onan in Genesis 38:9-10. Some interpret this passage as saying that “spilling your seed” on the ground is a sin. However, that is not precisely what the passage is saying. God condemned Onan not for “spilling his seed” but because Onan refused to fulfill his duty to provide an heir for his brother. The passage is not about masturbation, but rather about fulfilling a family duty. A second passage sometimes used as evidence for masturbation’s being a sin is Matthew 5:27-30. Jesus speaks against having lustful thoughts and then says, “If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away.” While there are parallels between this passage and masturbation, it is unlikely that masturbation was what Jesus was alluding to.

While the Bible nowhere explicitly states that masturbation is a sin, there is no question as to whether the actions that lead to masturbation are sinful. Masturbation is nearly always the result of lustful thoughts, sexual stimulation, and/or pornographic images. It is these problems that need to be dealt with. If the sins of lust, immoral thoughts, and pornography are forsaken and overcome, masturbation will become a non-issue. Many people struggle with guilty feelings concerning masturbation, when in reality, the things that led to the act are far more worthy of repentance.

There are some biblical principles that can be applied to the issue of masturbation. Ephesians 5:3 declares, “Among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity.” It is hard to see how masturbating can pass that particular test. The Bible teaches us, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). If you cannot give God glory for something, you should not do it. If a person is not fully convinced that an activity is pleasing to God, then it is a sin: “Everything that does not come from faith is sin” (Romans 14:23). Further, we need to remember that our bodies have been redeemed and belong to God. “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). This great truth should have a real bearing on what we do with our bodies. In light of these principles, the conclusion that masturbation is a sin is biblical. Clearly, masturbation is not glorifying to God; it does not avoid the appearance of immorality, nor does it pass the test of God’s having ownership over our bodies.

I have been celebrit (spl?) and masturbation free for longer than two years.

BTW, Dr. James Dobson says it isn't sin, but normal.
