Who would like another mystery. We had so much fun with the last one. Hang inn there this one is more lengthy and more intriging. who wants to play?

There was a man found hanging from a rope in a large, inner-city alley. Underneath him was a dirty thrown away mattress and dirty pillow case stuffed with old cloths and a bag with scraps of food possible dug out of a garbage bin. All the detective found on him was a cell phone where he had made a few calls to key family members: his wife, one of his two sons, his mother and father and an aunt, otherwise the only other calls were to a business man, an x-girlfriend, and the Pastor of the local Nazarene church, and a bank deposit slip for 1 million dollars,
He had on a dirty flannel shirt, dirty torn jeans, and a American Eagle pair of tennis shoes.
Surveying his body the detective discovered black streaks on his skin and a bloody lump on his head. They could tell he hadn't been dead for long, because the more he investigated it, he discovered that he had been seen at a dinner just a block from the crime scene only a couple hours earlier. The detective was confused because when discovering who owned the phone and the fingerprints on the phone matched that of the corps whose name was Ted Hinthorn, a well known, roofless, millionaire, business tycoon, but the detective was confused when questioning all the local homeless people in the area, because they kept asking "Why did Ben kill himself?" They wondered if he had left a note on why he had killed himself.
Can you guess why he called the people he called and who did it, and is it really Ted?

Have fun guessing.... I can't get on here much, but will answer questions when I can.

Dunno the actual answer but if I was a detective, I would be looking at the business man and ex girlfriend first. Putting them under survielance. I would definitley want to know if they know each other. I would also talk to the pastor secondarily. Wife is third priority. I would trust myself to make a better judgement from there.

The butler did it.

Even if there was no butler... the butler always does it.

All you have to do is find out who the butler is, and you're home free.

And, in today's world... if you can't find a butler, just frame someone and SAY they were the butler, and BINGO!!!!

You are now a world-famous prosecuting attorney. Problem solved!

Hmm.. Given that there seems to be a confusion about his identity, along with the calls to a businessman and an ex-girlfriend, perhaps he was living two lives? Or perhaps he has a twin brother who looks exactly like him... or maybe the reason he only called one of his sons, is because the other one did it. However, we know that this person was roofless, which makes it seem unlikely, though not impossible that he would have a wife and two children. Why would he be rich, roofless and living on his own?

To me it seems possible that he either lied about his identity to the homeless around him, or that he has a relative that looks very similar to the way he does. I need to figure out why they think his name is Ben >.>

Idk XD I'm probably not even close, so I may come back to this when I'm more awake lol

On the surface of it seems like a suicide and those are his last calls. The thing that throws me or seems the trickiest without more clues is how Ben (presumably the victim) got Jim's cellphone and seemingly a deposit for 1 million bucks. Did he steal it and then feel guilty, or is Jim like a mafia kinda guy and killed him in revenge for either theft or perhaps intrigues with the ex-girlfriend? Hard to say but for sake of having to try, I'll go with Jim is maybe mafia tied because the story says it seems Ben was not dead for long and has marks on him indicating he was beat up beforehand.

The spouse is usually suspect number one, so I'd look at the wife - what and how much did she stand to inherit from Jim/Ted's will? What was the state of their marriage? Was there any recent debt, or new life insurance policies?

I wanna know the answer! ;)
Can we get some new hints? It's very difficult because we don't even know if this person is Ben or Ted. :(

For some reason my imagination just went all black-and-white. With a muted trumpet playing in the background. And a guy in a trenchcoat walking down the sidewalk in the rain, smoking a cigar.

Which is a mystery in itself because I never did really go for film noir stuff.

Boy, if I had no roof, I might hang myself.

One observation:

They found a deposit slip for one million dollars in his pocket. But when you make a deposit, the bank keeps the deposit slip. Since he still has the slip, he didn't make the deposit. So where is the check or the cash? Presumably the money, in whatever form, was stolen by the one who hit him over the head and hung him to make it look like a suicide.

A few ideas:

The black streaks on the body indicate he was a drug user. His wife kicked him out because of his heavy drug use. But he likes living on the street for easy access to drugs. He uses the name Ben with the street people to keep them from knowing his real identity and that he is loaded. He uses the local cafe and his phone to conduct business. He still has contact with his x-girlfriend because they had a son (or two) when they were together.

Another thought to throw into the mix:

As a millionaire business tycoon, he must have had a will ....

Perhaps he called all these people to let them know he was donating a million dollars to the Nazarene Church and they would only be getting the scraps when he was gone. So someone decided to intervene before he got to the bank. The deposit slip was for the church account.

So here is my final guess, putting together the above ideas:

Everyone pretty well knows Ted's drug habits will kill him before long. Ted calls all his relatives and x-girlfriend (by whom he had a son and heir) to tell them he is donating a million dollars to the Nazarene Church and thus leaving little as inheritance. His wife as the primary beneficiary, relays the information to their son and sends him off to intervene before Ted gets to the bank. It would take a strong guy to lift up the knocked out Ted and hang him, so it was probably the son.

@Pemican lol I had thought along the lines of some of your scenarios as well. Hard mystery indeed with lots of possibilities. Will be very interesting to see what the solution is.

Ted Hinthorn, a well known, roofless, millionaire,
If he was really roofless, then how did he hang himself?

What was the rope hanging from if there was no roof?

I smell a conspiracy.

Lol that's not the victim. Ted is the guy who the phone belonged to.

Are we supposed to base it on this information alone, or ask questions to conduct an investigation?
First you would need to talk to the family and people he called.....Have someone I.D. him. ......Who was with him at the restaurant? Does he have a twin? What does the autopsy say? Has anyone looked in the dumpster for the object used to hit him over the head? Where are the black streaks and is it raining/has it been raining?

I've looked at this several times. There are a number of spelling and grammatical errors in this which, to me, are distracting. This makes it difficult for me to get some of the details down. Anyway, I've got some questions...

There was a man found hanging from a rope in a large, inner-city alley. Underneath him was a dirty thrown away mattress and dirty pillow case stuffed with old cloths cloths or clothes? Cloths would be a wad of fabric pieces shoved into a pillow. Clothes would be, well....clothes! And was it his clothes? Women's clothing?and a bag with scraps of food possible dug out of a garbage bin. All the detective found on him was a cell phone where he had made a few calls to key family members: his wife, one of his two sons, his mother and father and an aunt, otherwise the only other calls were to a business man, an x-girlfriend How "ex" was the girlfriend? Was his wife also the mother of the two sons? Presuming adult sons and one marriage, it seems strange to have a relationship with the ex girlfriend....hmmmm, and the Pastor of the local Nazarene church, and a bank deposit slip for 1 million dollars,
He had on a dirty flannel shirt, dirty torn jeans, and a American Eagle pair of tennis shoes.
Surveying his body the detective discovered black streaks on his skin What did they look like? Were they under the skin as an infection? Were they tire marks or some kind of burn? and a bloody lump on his head. They could tell he hadn't been dead for long, because the more he investigated it, he discovered that he had been seen at a dinner just a block from the crime scene only a couple hours earlier. The detective was confused because when discovering who owned the phone and the fingerprints on the phone matched that of the corps at first I thought this was short for "corporation," but I think you meant "corpse." whose name was Ted Hinthorn, a well known, roofless, millionaire, business tycoon, but the detective was confused when questioning all the local homeless people in the area, because they kept asking "Why did Ben kill himself?" They wondered if he had left a note on why he had killed himself.
Can you guess why he called the people he called and who did it, and is it really Ted?

OK, I am guessing that one of his two sons was through his ex-girlfriend. She had just let him know about him and she, or possibly both she and the son are blackmailing him. I'm guessing that the money was not deposited to his account but to theirs.
