2 corinthians 6

2Co 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
2Co 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
2Co 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
2Co 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
2Co 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Search is your friend.

Specifically in this case look at the right top corner of your screen and you will see a search bar. Type "yoked" into it and you will find a blue million other threads about this topic. Have fun.

that. But to You?
For me they have to be a Christan, but in just in the name,
but also equally with where we stand on things like pro-life/pro choice.

Methinks Shammers knew about these scriptures and that inspired the OP. What would someone who is equally yoked with you LOOK like?

But then there would be a complaint that she is reviving a dead thread. So the options are:

1. revive an old thread and offend those that don't like zombie threads.
2. start a new thread on an old topic that has been rehashed several times and offend those peeps who do not like multiple threads on one topic.
3. never, ever, under no circumstances bring up a topic that has been discussed before. If you are a newbie and didn't get your opinion or question in the first go-round, that is just tough toenails!

BTW - Shamrocker is not a newbie. She has been a long-time favorite in the chatrooms and has recently ventured into the forums. Let's be welcoming.

This is a great thread topic, Shamrocker. The Bible specifically states not to be yoked with an unbeliever, which kind of leads us to believe that as long as we are both believers, all is well. But I think it's often wise to go further than that with this yoke business.

oxyoke.jpg

A yoke is meant for a TEAM of oxen, and when they aren't going in the same direction of course there are problems (the believer and unbeliever). However, there are also problems if they are moving at different speeds, if one is significantly stronger than the other, if they are pulling against one another, etc.

If one partner is much more spiritually mature than the other, this could be an example of being unequally yoked. If one has convictions that the other does not share. Differences of belief in essential doctrines.

From a non-spiritual standpoint, the same goes... clashing personalities, different values or moral standards, different ways of spending money, even differences of cleanliness can cause unequal yoke partners in their daily lives.

In the end, the most important yoke is that of faith in Christ. Other things can and are overlooked successfully quite often. But if you are yoked with an unbeliever, how can you plow a field with any sort of efficiency? Everything that you base your entire life off of - your moral system, your desires, your self-discipline, identity, motivation... the person who doesn't know Christ will never understand those things, unless God changes their hearts.

That's what dating is for. To spend some time making sure you're both pulling the same way, at the same pace. ;)

Or so I've heard... Never been on one of them dates myself.

What does that mean to you?
It doesn't mean anything to me. Having - or claiming to have - similar or identical fundamental beliefs, I get that. Still...

Hi Shammy!
Ok Yoking.... the scripture you posted refers not only to relationships in the romantic sense, but also friendships. It can also speak to doctrinal differences within the body of Christ.

When you yoke yourself to someone, you are connected to them. In an oxen team, when one oxen pulls one direction, the other oxen is also affected and is pulled along with them. Thus when it comes to our spiritual enterprise we should not yoke with unbelievers (ie how we worship). When you are friends with the world it is enmity with God for this very reason. The world and those in it will pull you away from the narrow road of a Christian walk of sanctification.
