I'm a truck driver from central PA, but right now I'm stuck in Visalia CA until tomorrow afternoon .

There is this small obscure truck stop that is half of a fruit and nuts farm that has a big BBQ pit that they make all sorts of food when its outside of the winter months unfortunately but I like coming here and am about to head over to the comfort inn and suites per my usual routine while here.

Was just wondering what are some places that you all like to frequent BC of atmosphere etc?

BY THE WAY....there is also a makeshift sign that reads petting zoo...but the petting zoo consists of a singular goat and chickens. California has a bunch of oddities but I like the oddness to it.

My favorite places are in the national forests of Oregon or maybe Kalispell Montana. It is beautiful there

When in the UK my friend and I would go village hunting on our way to more specific destinations.
On our way to any major city we would take a detour and find a smaller village (which we often liked better than the city).

I tend to fall in love with locations with plenty of nature and few or no signs of modern life.

My favorite place is Natures Valley. It is a forest area in South Africa. It has great giant trees, beautiful rivers and waterfalls. I love being out in nature. God's creation. The sounds... the smell... The solitude... If only we could all go back to living in the Garden of Eden

I live out in Amish country in pa...lots of horse and buggies. I love it there and all the corn fields. The Amish always fly down the road on their bikes in suspenders and hats.

I've always preferred it there though...rotatilling gardens and seeing monster sunflowers grow like 7 feet tall

I have wanted to go to Yosemite but unfortunately my company might not agree with me burning their fuel to go sightseeing lol

You are from California I'm assuming? I have to head up to Oregon and Washington tomorrow afternoon. Will need to check weather and see what nightmares await me. Will most likely be breaking out the chains

I managed to miss some of them this year but its inevitable. I'd rather deal with them instead of the real bad winds in Wyoming.

We are a smaller company and one of the major contracts we have is also the only one west of Kansas, but they are a big aluminum company with plants in Seattle, California, Texas, among other places in the east. I just volunteer to come out this way because I know what I'm doing usually 2 weeks in advance and don't have to really talk to dispatch. Not hearing from them is usually a good day. Just switched out of Volvo trucks into a kenworth 680. Lot of guys don't seem to like em but I do. The automatic volvo had all sorts of transmission problems in cold weather, prefer the manual trans

My motto is, wherever I am, that's where I want to be. That said however, Pittsburgh may be one of America's best kept secrets. Big city with small town atmosphere and some really good places to eat, especially along the Strip District.

Beaver's Bend, OK. It's a gorgeous place to go in the fall, especially if you're feeling misanthropic and don't want to be around humans xD

Not so hot if being alone in an isolated cabin in the woods without cellphone service and occasionally spotty electricity is bothersome to you, but it suits me quite nicely.

And I'm sure you wouldn't be fond of navigating 70 plus foot of truck and trailer up the roads into Yosemite. If I'm not mistaken a city tractor and short box is all that will safely navigate some of the access roads.

Of course my memory could be off since it's been 25 years since I was last there.

This is true! We drove through yosemite when I was a kid and I remember the road was very steep and winding with no railings in some places. I also remember we had to wait for a few deer that were standing in the road to cross before we could continue.

Ditto Landing in Madison County, Alabama. Great fishing spot with numerous water body types to choose from.

Guntersville Lake, Guntersville, Alabama. Huge man made lake with so many different fishing sites, and City, County, and State Parks.

Corpus Christi Bay............my birthplace....(well, not actually IN the Bay, but.... :)

I don't think I'll ever love any place more than I do the Florida Keys. No so much Key West, because it's too "touristy" to me with Duval Street, Mallory Square etc.. but take me to a quiet beach or snorkeling in Key Largo and I'll be super happy lol.

Man, seriously... I'm crazy and I'm fully aware of this lol, but I prefer the cold. Take me to flipping Colorado or the Rockies in the dead of winter, and I'll have the most awesome time ever. Nothing like warm blankets, hot cocoa, fireplace burning and watching some old school tv is the most perfect thing ever.
