Have you ever thought that the most merciful thing God could have done was to not create this entire universe in the first place?

Yea sometimes I think that it's all a big joke and what's the point? But then again He's God and I'm not so I'll let my words be few.... :)

Yes indeed. But for some reason, He felt it was all worth it, even knowing that His creation would come into ruin because of sin.

Which also brings us to the question as to why God allowed sin to happen in the first place... There are always a few lurkers who come into Singles and scold us all for not including Jesus in our every sentence. And I always want to tell ask them, "What did Adam and Eve talk to God about in the Garden of Eden every evening before the fall? I guarantee you their conversations weren't about Jesus' death and resurrection..." because it hadn't happened yet.

And that was never even God's original plan. He intended for man and woman to live with Him in eternal perfection.

The God we serve seems to highly value revealing Himself to and through His creations. As the Great Artist, He almost seems incapable of holding His creative power within and, like any of us, has an almost... "need" to express Himself through His creations (after all, we are created in His image.) Without the fall of man, we would not know that we have a God who is willing to sacrifice Himself and die for us.

Now, I'm not saying at all that this reason alone was good enough to allow sin or that God even considered this a reason (I'm prone to asking God, "How can you expect me to be grateful for a life I never asked for?") but for reasons we may never understand, God made the choices He did.

And as humans, we trust that an all-powerful God's choices... are much better than our own...

It would not be merciful because there would be nobody to give mercy to.

There would also be none of the good things in this world. It's not the perfect world God made anymore, it has been marred by sin, but there is still a LOT more good than bad. All you have to do is eat a piece of fruit or play with a puppy to see the good.

Have you ever thought that time didn't exist until God started it? And it won't exist any more after God ends the universe? No I'm not off-topic... this has a lot to do with your initial question if you think about it.

"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," declares the LORD." For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts.… (Isaiah 55:8-9)

I don't really correlate the two. We're our own undoing - but I do think there's some cosmic moral ambiguity at large.

I have thought about this too at times, but then the following occurred to me,
you cannot deny your true nature and neither can God.

So people who are creative or musical have just got to be creative and make music.
People who are sociable and friendly cannot live in isolation.
People who are intelligent and highly intellectual just have to put their minds to good
use.

God is all these things and much much more. The simplest phrase in the bible
is God is love. Not God learned to love or God gave love etc, but rather
God is love.

Imagine being God with all these attributes and never using them. He created
the universe because he is the creator God, he created us because he is love and
wanted to express that love. The crucifixion was also an expression of that same love
for us.

Here is another example :)
2 Timothy 2:13 AMP
[13] If we are faithless do not believe and are untrue to Him, He remains true
(faithful to His Word and His righteous character), for He cannot deny Himself.

Incidentally a child could say the same thing.

imagine if you had planned careful for a child and planned on giving it
the very best, then that child grow up to be a spoilt brat or turned to drugs
and drink, then said to you - why did you bring me into the world etc.

Honestly, I have not. Not trying to come across as pius, but I'm thankful for my life, my eternal life, and everything in between. How is it merciful to have never been created? I don't understand.

If there were ambiguity then God would not be sovereign.

On a small scale though I haven't met many people who would maintain the perspective that they would rather have never existed then to have existed in an imperfect but redeemable state. Usually the only time I see someone maintain that view is when they are going through a time of tremendous pain and turmoil. Like Job here.

[SUP]3 [/SUP]Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.
[SUP]4 [/SUP]Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it.
[SUP]5 [/SUP]Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]As for that night, let darkness seize upon it; let it not be joined unto the days of the year, let it not come into the number of the months.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]Lo, let that night be solitary, let no joyful voice come therein.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to raise up their mourning.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day:
[SUP]10 [/SUP]Because it shut not up the doors of my mother's womb, nor hid sorrow from mine eyes.
[SUP]11 [/SUP]Why died I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly?
[SUP]12 [/SUP]Why did the knees prevent me? or why the breasts that I should suck?
[SUP]13 [/SUP]For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been at rest,

I've actually said this to my mom when I was younger. I feel really bad about how much of a jerk I was growing up. Faking jumping off the stairs, biting myself, or phycological warfare like that. God probably feels the same way when I ask these kinds of questions, but it just happens. My brain over-thinks things (everything) too much, and I have to do something about it, which in turn hurts the people around me. :(

The truth is, I go through this kind of thinking temporarily. Usually my emotions come in waves. Right now I have a cheerful outlook on life, but in a weeks time I might be at the bottom again with depression. I will also go back and forth from being outgoing and a shy introvert. I'm not sure why I'm like this, but it's sort of a character trait I'd rather not have to deal with. It's gotten a little better as I've gotten older, but I just want to be content. Steady. No crazy ups and downs. Thank you for all of your input on this. I will reference this thread again when I'm feeling down.
