Hey Everyone,

My original title for this thread was, "Has Anyone Else Seen The Adult Coloring Books?" And then I realized that choice of wording didn't sound quite right... So, back to the drawing board (pardon the pun.)

I had heard about the new "coloring fad" a while ago--people who like to relax with a coloring book but want something more challenging than Barbie or Mickey Mouse--and happened to flip through a book while I was in a store the other day.

In college, I used to go to a coffee house with my friends and you would regularly see people there with coffee, crayons, and coloring books.

I've never really been into coloring (even though I have a fascination with color), but I can certainly see how it could be a relaxing, convenient, and inexpensive hobby.

However... Here are some of the pages I found. What do you think?

These images are gorgeous to look at, but let me tell you, to my knowledge, I don't have OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), but I'm pretty sure that looking at these pages long enough would certainly cause me to have it!!!

If I ever take up coloring, I think I'll stick to images like this:

Or maybe this, if I really want a challenge:

I'm also having flashbacks of all the pages I colored when I was a kid and in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School of things like Noah's Ark. Back then, the image was just of the ark, maybe Noah, and a 2 pairs of animals.

I'm pretty sure that if there is a Christian version of a "Coloring Book for Grown-Ups"--it would include the pairs of animals from every species on the planet. ARGH!!! My poor attention span (has just flown out the window.)

Since we've been talking about hobbies a lot here in Singles...

* Were you/are you into coloring? What do you think of these pages? (Relaxing or a spazz-fest?)

* What activities did you enjoy as a kid? (Puzzles, Legos, and for the "older" singles among us :)... Tinker Toys? Lincoln Logs? Play-Doh? Lite Brites?) Do you still take time to work on those same things even now as an adult?

Feel free to share pictures and stories! :D

Not for me, but interesting. I could see how people enjoy that as a finished product. Hello Kitty is definitely the most appealing.

When I was a kid, I hated coloring.. I thought it was stupid lol. I remember in 3rd grade we had these coloring contests and my teacher asked why I was coloring outside of the lines XD so I told her exactly that.. well she challenged me to do my best, so I did and got 2nd place.. But I suspect that was on purpose lol. Thx Ms. Thompson.

This is so funny!! As I was writing this thread, I could "see" and "hear" my kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Johnson, telling us (as if it was of world importance), "ALWAYS color within the lines, Children, and ALWAYS color in the same direction!" Heh.

Bruce, somehow, I'm not surprised AT ALL that you were coloring OUTSIDE the lines. :) That seems to be the theme of who you are.

And that's pretty cool. :)

P.S. This is also a great point for all you teachers out there... Kids WILL remember you and what you teach them!!! :D In fact, many of your students will probably even remember your name... even a "few" *cough, cough* years--or decades--later.

P.P.S. I picked the Hello Kitty page because I'm a lazy colorer. HK is technically all white, so all I'd have to color is her nose, bow, and dress!! (And maybe the flower.) When it comes to coloring, I took shortcuts whenever I could find them!

Haha I take that as a compliment :p But yeah, what they do definitely isn't always forgotten. To this day, she has been my favorite teacher. It's funny, but I actually had her dad as a professor in college and worked with him during a summer outreach type of thing. Both great people & teachers. :)

I'm the same as BruceWayne. It's not for me.

Do you know that there are also paint-by-number for adults as well?

I used to totally dig paint-by-numbers.

I may have to check that out.

On second thought... I'm already hyperventilating of having to stay within all those lines... Maybe not.

"Coloring outside the lines" -- in your case, it was definitely meant as a compliment. :)

Besides, most of my life is a shade of color that most people can't really describe...

Just don't say I'm a "shade of grey", please. :)

Nice save on the thread title! ;)

Yea I have seen this on the web, I don't know about others but for me "coloring books" seems somewhat childish (does hypothetical Bart Simpson who's age 42 living with mom say my cwayon bwoke?) but hey if it's relaxing for anyone they should go for it....

I like music whether it's playing on the piano or putting a tune off the mp3 player its great to relax and chill to. I used to love radio as a young person but got more into music listening rather than talk radio to relax to.

I have always loved video games as a youngster and adult especially sports video games (not into super smash brothers, first person shooters etc).

The colouring apps are good, they are useful in long journeys, or to
pass a bit of time. I try to see if i can come up with something different.
Here are a few examples of things I have done

First year of my university study lol and the last year we had to color maps with crayons. Every evening I'd go to a girl who studied the same and for hours we would color maps. With the study cartography we had to do it too and with plastic, stick it on paper. Then the next year we could throw our pens away the teacher said. They introduced computer programs for it. It was fun to do.

They are great, down load one or two and give them a go, then you can have all the
creative fixes you want. Lol

The best thing is if you make a mistake, just click the back button. :D

Christians might be be cautious with a lot of the "colouring for adults" books that are out there at the minute: the majority of them are based on "Mindfulness" which is a Buddhist philosophy. Also, many of the actual images are Mandalas and sacred geometry. You can google all that if you want to know more.

Just a gentle warning for Christians. :)
