As someone struggling with depression on and off, I've been thinking about this a lot. What do people find joy/happiness in? What makes you get up in the morning or puts a smile on your face? What makes you feel like you've had a good and successful day?

I'm curious because this is something I struggle with. I want to find joy and I know I need to find it in Christ...but how do I do this? How can I find happiness in other things as well?

God speed, miss Molly.

I figured out not very long ago that I wasn't wrestling with depression; I was unhappy. That was something of a breakthrough, but I still didn't know how to fix it. It wasn't until more recently that I found something to strive for - well, two things...

1. Betterment. I've been pushing myself to the point of exhaustion lately, and I'm not done! Character is important to me, and I feel more fulfilled knowing I've challenged myself, whether I succeed or not in what I take on.
2. Travel. Seeing/reading stories of modern day adventures stirs me. I'm currently saving money to travel across the country and live life on the road. This guy has been of some inspiration recently, too.

Since becoming single again about 10 months ago, and with my perspective on my faith and Christianity changing more recently than that, I've been wrestling with a sort of existential loneliness more now than ever. Those two things are what help me to continue rolling (and, of course, the lovely people in my life).

I hope you find your peace soon. :)

Thank you so much, Siberian! I appreciate you answering this thread. Those are two great ideas...I'll definitely try implementing them in my life too.

God did not put us on this planet to just exist until we die. God put us here to experience life and, frankly, enjoy it.

First, figure out what you are good at. This probably requires trying new things. Then figure out which parts you enjoy out of the things you are good at. Then go do it.

Sounds simplistic, but it has worked for me. I'm making soundtracks to sing with at church. I work a low-pay job at a fast food factory, but my life is much more than what I do for a living. I have something I am enthusiastic about and I am doing it.

I sometimes go on Google Earth and "travel" in that way. Lots of interesting places to see. I'm "flying" to St. Petersberg next.
