Ground Hog's Day Dating. (Repeatedly Dating the "Same" Person In Different Forms.)

Hello Everyone,

Back in the 80's, there was a movie called "Ground Hog's Day" in which Bill Murray lived the same day repeatedly, over and over, apparently trying to make each time better than the last, but failing miserably with each try.

I actually never saw the movie (as is the case with several films--I hear so much about them that I don't feel I need to watch them myself!) and I'm not sure what a modern-day equivalent would be, seeing as this is a popular theme in entertainment, but a friend and I were recently discussing the fact that some people we know seem to date virtually the same person over and over again in different forms.

I think you've all seen this--someone who chooses significant others that all kind of look alike, have similar mannerisms and characteristics, have the same sense of humor, etc.

Taking this to the extreme--I had a friend in college who actually dated a set of identical twins... not at the same time... but in succession to one another... and we teased her endlessly about that.

And I have another friend whose name is Kris and she has dated two guys in the past (not at the same time!) who were both named Chris.

Do you think some people are just naturally attracted to a certain look or type and just tend to choose that over and over again? Or do you think they are literally trying to replace someone with another person who looks, acts, and resembles the "original" as much as possible? (One of my brothers was dating a great girl who was the pastor's daughter--they broke up because her heart was in the local church, but his heart was in world missions--I was quite shocked at how much her next boyfriend looked and resembled my brother, though I'm not sure if it was on purpose or not.)

I'm interested in hearing your stories and thoughts... and the attached poll is multiple choice, so feel free to choose all answers that you find applicable!

LOL... I attract a lot of the same "types" over and over again as well, Nod, so I feel your pain. My types would be 1. former party boys who are scared speechless of turning 40 and being alone; 2. seniors; 3. guys who don't live in reality (I had a guy tell me once how mad he was at Captain America... and then give me his number); and younger guys who, I guess see an older woman as a conquest.

Just a thought, Nod--maybe these guys are attracted to the natural beauty of your STUNNING, "Don't-tell-me-I'm-wearing-contacts-or-it's-on" peepers??? Just a thought! Luv ya girl! :D (Ducks). (References to other threads, for all of you out there.)

Remember, if you fight me, not the the teeth! Anything but the teeth!! ;)

Old men, young men and captain america.... I dont know which one is worse!
mine seems to go like this
1) The flirty lead you on type, that all but ask you out then say oops i forgot to mention, i have a girlfriend
2) The i really like you type, but i dont act like it AT ALL. (my personal favorite, because i do so love guessing games, he likes me, oh wait no he doesnt, he likes me, oh no he doesnt)
3)Last but not least, the im obsessed with my mommy kind.

I have yet to date someone who does not fall under these three catagories...... Maybe one day i'll be as lucky as you and get to date a super hero, or at least someone whose mad at one

Holy cow, girl!!

After reading about your woes... I am repenting of all my grumbling and complaining... I'd rather dodge wheelchairs, training wheels, flying and swinging superheros, and wanna-be-baby-makin'- players than deal with your misfortune anyday!!! *sympathetic hug*

And thanks for sparing the grill!!! :)

I used to be attracted to Bad Boys. When I relized I had this problem I've been picker about who I date. I no longer feel like a giddy school girl when I meet a guy. I am very coutius that he might be another bad boy. I take my time to get to know him when before I would jump right in the middle of things. Please take the time with people you meet. Their true selfs will come out within 6 months of meeting them.
