I'm world-building for a story set in an alternate 1940's Europe, and I've now reached a point where I need to come up with a flag for the main country. After hours and hours of meddling with different shapes and styles, reading ideas by vexillologists (yeah, it's a thing), I've narrowed it down to four variations! Which one do you like most? Which one's most realistic? I'm trying to make the flag iconic without being too similar to a real country. If it has a white symbol in the middle, don't fixate too much on that because it's mostly just a placeholder. There would be some sort of insignia in the finished version.

A is pretty, exactly the way it is. I don't think you should get rid of the white part.

Versions A & C will accentuate the symbol most.

Version D would be more along the lines of something being separated into four 'somethings', and those for things being united or controlled by the symbol in the middle.

Most flags are highly symbolic, and there's a meaning for everything on it (colors, patterns, placement, etc).

A. All the others make me think of existing flags.

I also vote for A, just as it is. But then I don't know anything about the fictional country it represents.

A and C look the most like actual flags
B and D look too "unbalanced"
