Personally, I believe that side hugs aren't real hugs. I understand the reasoning behind men and women not giving each other "full" hugs, but isn't there a point in your relationship where you both feel comfortable enough to hug each other normally? For instance, I have known my best friend Cassidy for 14 years. We've grown up together, but she still gives me side hugs. At some point, I feel like hugging someone goes beyond sexual concerns, and it is simply a sign of friendship and closeness. I have always been a hugger, and I always feel that side hugs are awkward. Thoughts?

I avoid church hugs as much as possible.

Its kind of like the 3 bears story,
too tight
too tall (looms over my 5' 1" frame)
too bear huggy
too clingy
too much invasion of personal space by someone I hardly know
too, keep your hands to yourself
too, hey get off your wife is watching

:D

i'm not much of a hugger unless it's family or close friends.

when it comes to the opposite sex, if he's not family or fiance, he's getting a side hug. lol

I'm not a hugger at all. I don't like them at all but i dont like being touched at all because of my disorder.
However, in relationships i think side hugs are super sweet and intimate and that's how i like to hug. Plus you can do those hugs more when doing something or watching something so its more like a cuddle while enjoying those moments.

I don't like it when strangers come up and hug me randomly either. But what about a close friend or just someone that you know well?

I usually don't initiate hugs, but I won't turn down a hug if someone else initiates it. UNLESS it's this clown!

I assume Cassidy feels frontal hugs are awkward. Be thankful for side hugs

Oh I am a hugger for sure I hug people all the time even if I don't know them that much I am just weird like that I can read people and know if they are the kind of people who like hugs or are like no no no no don't touch me please kind of people. For those who i have hugged they always tell me I am a great hugger and that it was a warm hug.

I hope that a hug a day keeps the gloom away

I don't think people at our church would even understand if someone tried a "sidehug."

I'm definitely a hugger when it comes to family and friends.

But I don't do side hugs cuz that just seems silly ...or awkward.

Understand? What does that even mean? A person hugs in a fashion that is comfortable to them.

Well, to address the obvious (C'mon, you know I ALWAYS do that.) we are mainly talking about male/female hugs here, right? I am pretty tall, so I do not contact the protruding parts of the female frontal anatomy when I hug. I am leaning, and therefore positioned above them, probably making it a bit more comfortable for both of us.

In truth, I find some men are more uncomfortable about hugging other men due to the homosexual overtones they might perceive are being broached.
