Love it or hate it, one cannot deny the huge place that music has in our lives. Its everywhere, colourfully interwoven into the fabric of our humanity. From the music that introduces the news on TV to the soundtrack of Star Wars; from the advertising jingle to the classic Nokia ringtone, music is everywhere. Its ability to influence is unmistakable. Soon we will be hearing Christmas songs in our stores around the world.

So I was thinking..... at this point in my life (like this week) if ONE SONG would resonate as a "soundtrack" for me for now what would it be?

Well over the last week I had to say goodbye to some really close friends who chose to emigrate as a family. I used to lead a home group bible study in their home, once a week for a long time. We prayed with (and for) and encouraged each other often. So it was a rather painful goodbye for us at the airport earlier this week. Of course at church we had sung songs like "Till we meet..." but to be honest the soundtrack for me this week has to be (a little selfishly I confess) "Don't leave me" by Freshly Ground, a South African band that is popular in my neck of the woods.

What is your "soundtrack?" You don't have to offer an explanation, but what song fits as you at this very stage of your life?

This is the soundtrack of my life (at least I want it to be ).

It's sad, sweet, upbeat and filled with beauty all at the same time... (and there's no words, just an orchestra)

Love's Theme - Love Unlimited Orchestra - composed by Barry White (yes, THAT Barry White)

Nice! I always loved his music! Got a funny story on Barry White. A friend of mine loves his music. When he lived in a smaller town he was well known probably because he owned a nightclub at the time. Now this is a huge guy. When he ate out he would park at a restaurant and take his Barry White CD inside the establishment and get the manager to stop what ever music was playing so they could play his CD while he was there! this was some 15 years ago! When he was done he'd pay up and ask the waiter to bring back his CD!

It's very rare that an entire song matches any part of my life. Maybe because most songs out there are love songs, about a relationship. So even if the theme of the song is something else, there is "always" that bit with "oh swetie I miss your fair eyes" or something like that :p Basically this means I normally only identify with one or two verses, or maybe even some of the sentences of a song.

Here's one verse that fits now
(I returned from Scotland in December, after living there for three years)

Cum ur cum ur cum ur n'aire
Air an iar 's air an àite a dh' fhàg sibh
'S cuimhnich cuimhnich gu robh agaibh
Dualchas àraid agus luachmhor an

Keep, keep, keep your attention
On the west and on the place that you left behind
Remember, remember that you experienced
A unique culture of great worth

My Wedding song my Husband and I chose as our song was In My Life by The Beatles. I've always liked that song talks about the past present and future. I'll never lose affection for those from my past, that doesn't mean just former romantic relationships, a broad sense in general. I'll never lose affection for anyone I have cared for but my family is my rock and although you might drift apart from some, I'll never drift apart from my family.
