How about damsel or sugar?

I'm just throwing ideas out there to see if anything sticks

I have no problem being called a "girl". I don't really consider that age-specific. I go out with the "girls" all the time. I am a girl. This seems most natural to me. Maybe I am in denial about my true age. :p

"Woman" is not a bad thing. It has a more "adult" meaning to it, I think, somehow?

"Lady" seems like something a very polite-but-distant stranger would say.

"Gal" sounds country to me, and it's my least favorite.

Sure it's okay, as long as an arsenic sandwich is ok.

Every woman is a girl, but not ever girl is a woman. So I don't mind either.

But there is a disrespectful/annoying way to say anything, as Roh Chris has very skillfully pointed out. But as long as the title is not used imam antagonistic way, gal, girl, woman, and lady are fine. And I guess chick is fine as well, but it's just so teenagery and punk.

Hey, you! Woman! I need a sandwich!

Is it still "ok" now? :p
There really needs to be an equally derogatory way to refer to a male using deceptively commonplace and accurate words.

(But really Roh. We both know who is going to be making the sandwiches around here. Who is in denial now?!)

Just respond with, "Make your own sandwich, BOY!"

Now, ladies, let's not get agitated over a mere name. There! There! :p

Okay Grace, I will make the sandwiches only this time. But only if you keep Melita away from them.
