I'm thinking now about affectionate names that I call my female friends. Chica, girlie, "boo"...

Keep those in private and don't make us throw up, Grace.

What? No babe? How can you be an insensitive jerk without saying "Hey babe" to a woman? We must have babe in the poll!

I remember this topic, but I can't remember what was decided last time this topic was run. I think we decided on undecided.
'Babe' has come to mean "sweet little pig", like in that movie a few years back :)

I like this poll. I always wondered what to call them. I was once told that the word "ladies" refer to "ladies in the night" or hookers so I have called them women ever since, but to get their opinion is quite useful. I just wish more would respond to this poll.

I like being called hun.

I hate being called woman only because to me, it makes me feel really old. I like being called miss or hun by strangers. When people I don't know call me hun, it gives a comforting feeling almost like they're very easy going people.

In this forum: Either my real name (Sonia), Wine, or Rose would do.

In real life (Or should I say, the not-digital world): Almost anything, but mispronounce my name as Sonja and I will cut you.

You forgot one, "Dame"

I think it matters less what you are called and more about who is doing the calling. I don't mind being called "baby", "honey", "sweetie", "sugar", "darlin'", "girl", "woman", "lady", etc. I don't like female, it is too scientific and clinical to me. Impersonal, I guess.

I remember a line from an old video game:

"Why do they call you Old Lady Gibson?"

"Well I'll give you a hint. I used to just be called Gibson. I think you can figure out the rest."

I don't mind ma'am. :) I occasionally correct students and tell them to call me Ma'am. I had one last year that called me Miss. I liked that, it was kind of English. I remember the first time I was called ma'am. It stunned me. I was 16 and working in a fast food joint and a little kid called me ma'am. I felt so old!

My grandma once told me that they used "miss" alot back whenever she was young...even for older ladies...in their fifties and older.
