Hi everyone. I did not want to derail seoulsearch's thread about unrealistic fantasies so I created this thread. I just want to know what are the things that men and women think as romantic in the real world. Here are some examples and it's surprising to know how different men and women are when it comes to romance.

Top seven things women think are romantic

-love notes
-music mixes
-flowers
-surprise picnics
-cuddling
-dancing under the stars
-shopping together

Top seven things men think are romantic

-seats on the 50-yard line
-a 1966 Mustang
-an Xbox 360
-powertools with a bow or ribbon
-sex (bow or ribbon optiona)
-baked goods
-silence

I think this list is biased. A mustang? Seriously? I really thought men are easy to please. I did'nt think they are high maintenance.

Pfftt who wants a 1966 mustang? lol....I'd prefer a muscle sedan like a charger or chevy caprice ppv any day over a mustang/sports car....

idk I think both lists are heavily materialistic in truth.....I would rather have a woman who hangs tough when the rough patches hit during life and still sticks with you rather than someone who needs constant good times and gets fleet footed when the hard times in life come such as a job loss, low money, cancer/diseases that happens unexpectedly etc.....I think a true romantic woman would be one who loves you despite life's hurdles.....

I can absolutely say that I honestly think the top list is more appealing.

Not that I would want flowers or anything, theyre doomed to die and feel pointless to me. Though cool decorations are appreciated sometimes : p

But uhhh things that I think about when fantasising about such things....

Im way into holding hands, like more than people would imagine. I very much would want to be with a girl that I could hold hands with, look into her eyes and smile, without her judging me for not being "manly" or any of that nonsense : p

I also love to cuddle, in fact after a hard day of working that could be a nice way to relax maybe.

And I love saying nice things to each other while doing that, too. Talking about how much we love each other and how special we both are to each other and all that.

And actually going on picnics together is kinda a dream of mine. I love being outdoors, in pretty scenic areas. And I like food and eating food for some weird reason : p So those things together are definitely a dream of mine.

Also, Id love to go exploring together. Like, check out really cool places together, go to small concerts and museums together. Id really like to do those kinda things.

Sharing our favorite music together and talking about what we like about each others favorite songs, thats a big fantasy of mine, I often imagine doing that when I listen to my favorite music : p Only fear with that is that she might like music that I just cant enjoy, like poppy stuff with an over the top singer, Id really have to stretch my mind to find a way to appreciate that : p

Oh, and it would be amazing if she had some kinda musical ability, cuz I love playing music and Id very much like to write music together, and maybe even play open mics together . It would be awesome if she could play guitar or piano or something where we could both come up with simple melodies to work off of together, and if she werent afraid to sing a bit, so that we could both sing together. Would be really really awesome : p
I wouldnt expect her to be amazing, I mean I dont even consider myself to be. Would just be cool to be with someone willing to do that together : p

I dont like dancing, and Im not a "tough guy" or any of that, so there are a few things that I wouldnt be able to do, and would want to be with someone that I felt comfortable with obviously : p But it would definitely be cool to find someone who feels the same way I do about things and makes me feel happy to be around her over making me feel like I need to work really hard to make her happy all the time : p
In the end, Id want someone who really feels like my super most special best friend, who always chooses to be with me over others and enjoys my company, and Id want to be the same thing for her. I mean yeah Id work to provide for her and all those other responsibilities I have, but Im talking about my fantasies, so these are just my hopes and dreams : p

I got you. A good woman will stick with you forever through whatever circumstances if you always make her feel special and valued. You have to understand that in marriage, romance is life for a woman. Those top 7 things is not too much to ask I think.

Wow you are different from most men because men usually are not very romantic. Their highest need is not romance, it's someone who will stick by their side to support them with their dreams and aspirations, as what ultimatum said.

Yea those things are nice don't get me wrong....I guess I'm just a guy who values committment/loyalty more than physical gifts/stuff .....a loyal person is very hard to find these days imo.....people are just so fickle and morphing constantly via fads/trends/behaviors.....even in the last 15 years the mentality of many people in society has changed in terms of right/wrong black/white its kind of disheartening....nobody stands for absolutes anymore....

romance is probably something women need more than men imo.....b/c men are mostly just looking for affirmation whereas women want more emotional intimacy/caring.....most guys (including myself) are probably like a 1 or 2 in terms of the romance levels (1-10) it probably will take a few years and more maturing to learn how to be romantic and not be a robot lol :p

Gives me an idea for a CC appreciation thread. But there's a time for that. Maybe later.

Romantic?

Watching a movie together. One with a decent story and that doesn't have to be the latest blockbuster
Sharing a meal in a quiet restaurant where we can talk and enjoy each others company (and good food!) An ex of mine loved this particular restaurant which was immensely popular but extremely busy. I hated it for the same reason. The hectic atmosphere didn't exactly scream, "Romantic" They food was really good, but it was like eating at a bus station.
Reading excerpts from our favourite books and chatting about them. I am an avid reader and love sharing anything that inspires me. I get to hear about things that have gripped her attention lately.
The theatre (including performances of dance companies) or an art exhibition will do just fine if we both enjoy these
Listening to our favourite music together. I think the simplest pleasures enjoyed together can produce the best times together.

Men and women are wired differently, but we can be romantic too.

Wait...Power tools with a bow or ribbon is romantic? How come I didn't get that memo?

Haha yeah think the "mens list" was more about things theyd like to have. Not sure who these guys were that they gathered for this poll or whatever it was, but I dont think they understood the question : p

Also, way cool that youd like to share favorite things together, is something I like about being a couple, too : p

I wouldn't associate hardly any of these as "romantic."

I think romance is more about who you're with, and why you're with them than it is about what you're doing. The lists seem like, cliche things to do. It's more about investing in that person.

I think real romance is more figuring out what you can do to serve your significant other without the expectation of something in return. Just giving. If both people approach it that way...that would produce some pretty great romance, (romantic things to do) in my opinion.

Could you imagine waking up and having the joy of asking your spouse, "What can I do to make your day better?" Or having your spouse care enough to ask you that same question, every once in a while? I find that romantic.

Some things i think are romantic :p

A 747 taking off
A red Ferrari either moving or standing still
An AR15/M4 carbine
The smell of jet fuel
A huge drumset with gold-plated hardware (like Neil Peart's)
The Princess Bride

I saw the trailer of princess bride. The music did not even match. lol! They did not know how to make a movie trailer back then. But I agree even the trailer was romantic and also you are very high maintenance as a man. Only a rich princess can afford those things.
