    @South africans: Is this true?

Sadly some women in South Africa paid R4000/R5000 for Marriage /Proposal Prayer and the pastor promised they will get proposed by the 25th December

What kind of single am I?

I'm the kind of single that past loves neglect to mention when telling their love history to other people.

I'm the kind of single that doesn't play "hard to get" because I am really "hard to want".

I'm the kind of single that finds it taxing and trying to make chit-chat with someone.

I'm the kind of single that realizes being 50# overweight and looking scruffy is pretty decent woman deterrent.

I'm the kind of single that considers a "really good Friday night" includes a huge cup of coffee and a Frank Herbert book.

I'm the kind of single that realizes I am suited to be single.

Been married twice. Didn't listen to God so now I am. Second divorce messed me up because now I have a hard time seeing myself in another relationship. I push people away and also the no sex before marriage thing makes them run the other way. I need to fix me and love me before anyone can love me...just wish it was easier to do

Some strange things have happened in South African religious circles but these are by no means the norm. Mainstream South African churches shun such practices. However, like anywhere else (including my own country - bordering South Africa) they do have the odd church with the odd doctrine. Recently they had this "Doom pastor" where the guy was spraying "Doom" insect killer on his followers at an altar call. One other pastor/ prophet made his congregants eat grass. Something was definitely wrong there. However these are the rare sensational stories that make the news. 99.9% of churches are just ordinary churches as you would expect them to be. Its possible that this may have happened (your example) as I've seen a lot of this "sow a seed" theology being thrown out there, but this would have been one congregation outside the mainstream. South Africans are generally not that gullible.

Doom pastor? Wot is this I don't even....

His followers should be scared of that name alone. How cruel of him! Why would he spray insect killer on people like they are cockroaches?

Yeah it was really weird. It spawned a plethora of "Doom jokes" and videos. Like spray your Toyota with enough Doom and it'll become a Merc. I suppose the point that your example raises is this: In certain cultures not marrying by a certain age is frowned upon and living the single life is almost unthinkable, especially for women with a limited window for having children.

So while we have been exploring "What kind of single are you?" - because we recognize that being single for whatever reason, is acceptable - in some societies the question is more likely to be, "Why are you still single?" The answer is really nobodies business, but you can see the problems this mindset can create.

I am definitely a single who is fine being single for a good while and then BOOM suddenly gets sad and lonely. Fortunately I usually only feel that way for a short while.

Lol... Maybe I will just keep reading the comments if only I will find out what kind of single I am. But seriously... I get lazy about relationships, and often think I just need enough time to get stuff done. Perhaps too keen about career. I guess I should just relax it a bit...

I tend to focus on The Lord and His Word, but I'm grieved from time to time about wanting a wife. But I try to suppress it and just focus on serving The Lord and His People. At this time, I just want to please My Lord Jesus/Yeshua and obey. If God wills so, down the road, I would be okay with marriage; as long as The Lord himself chooses the wife. Otherwise, then no, I'll just be content being single and living for The Lord.

For clarification, I am very single, never been married and i am in a relationship now to someone i meet here, but his stand is to wait Jesus Christ return and not going to marry, I can say in this thread, Love is waiting and no need to be hurry even if we get old, because we a bride of Christ Jesus, but some day he will come along my way in a right time, God's perfect time.

I'm a mixture of a lot of those. I still live at home for financial reasons. My father is psychologically abusive towards everyone in the family. He has his good moments and he has done a lot for my family and I, but whenever he gets angry, he's the only one that matters. He continually reminds people about "all he's done for them" and ignores all he's done to us. I remember watching him beat my sister once. It's not like he did that was repetitively, and she had just cursed at him, so maybe a slap was warranted, but he hit her over and over again while she cowered, crying. Once he tried to punch my brother. Whenever he does something wrong, he gets angry when people get angry at him for it. My mother is more worried about not causing a fight than standing up for herself. Her desire to keep him happy has led to her being psychologically abusive too, sometimes blaming us for not stopping him from doing something she dislikes, other times getting angry with us for not trying to pretend every thing is okay to keep him happy. He's a former drug addict, alternately trying to reform then denying he has a problem. About a year ago, he almost got a DUI and because of that he's no longer on any drugs. I hope it lasts. Anyway, because of this, my view of marriage isn't very optimistic. I know from my interactions with other men that not all men are like this, but God clearly says spouses should submit to each other. I'm in no hurry to submit to a man who turns out to be a monster.

I'm also an introvert. I've never had anyone to talk to that I can trust. I don't have experience actually sharing things with them. Part of me prefers solitude. Only God's been showing me lately that I need some other people in my life, who I can trust. So I think that once I get my own place and settle down in a church I can be fairly certain I'll be at for a while, I'll start socializing with other women and men my age, and maybe that'll lead to meeting someone who I can trust enough to marry.

I also have high standards. I want a man who is Christian, believes men and women are equal (even if God gave them different roles) and that the verses pertaining to a wife submitting to a husband isn't meant to be a way for husbands to always get their way, who is a vegetarian, and who I feel safe with. Of course, there's more because it would largely depend on the individual.

It's also not my main priority. If I ever meet a man who I could be happy marrying and who would be happy marrying me, sure, I'll marry him. But I can also be happy without a man, and I'd kind of like to have my own apartment/place for a while and experience being able to live on my own and not have to tiptoe around. I don't see why marriage can't wait a bit.

I'm 19 and I've never had a girlfriend or my first kiss...I guess I'm a pressured single...a slightly insecure guy trying to get to know myself and my identity In Christ.
