I'm not always good about sending them out but I do try to send them to my family out of town. Someday they might become billionaires and give me money, so I don't want to take the chance of hurting their feelings.

Not if it's a corporation (Inc.)... unless you have business expenses to declare..

She'd have to apply for non-profit exemption status and I think they only give those to companies that collect donations or charge fees to cover expenses..

She's basically stuck. She can't even declare it as charity because she'd have to be giving her money to an actual charity..

She could set it up like normal non profits; pick a charitable cause, raise money, give 10% to the cause and then pocket the other 90% for "administrative costs". heh

seoulsearch I'd be one of the ones that never sent a card back. I don't do cards. There are too many cards already floating around at this time of year, and they all get read and thrown away or read and stashed in a closet somewhere.

I do bake a lot of bread this time of year though. There are certain people at church who have expressed they like my bread, so at Christmas I give them a loaf. The list has grown to about 24 families so far. And a few people at work, and three people I know online. And I send four or six loaves home with Dad when he comes. I need to buy some more loaf pans...

I have a garland going that I make and add to yearly, from all the Christmas cards I received the previous years. I have cards on there over 25 years old now. To me it's a fun way to keep the holiday memories for years to come. A few of the cards have needed repairing or have fallen completely apart over the years, but the memories are there.
One day, when I am gone, I hope my girls (at least one of them) continues with the traditions I began; the christmas garland, the holiday eggnog french toast, the hot cocoa, and even other things like my yearly calendars that literally detail every activity, date, dr appointment, class party and even the moods in some cases since the year my first child was born,all neatly stored away for the memories. I am very sentimental like that though.

That is a slightly inequitable exchange rate. It should be something like eight cards for one loaf of bread.

I like to give them in person. Often I will print my own for a close family member. For those far away I send them an e-card of some sort.

The habit of sending cards for any season died a long time ago here.. We don't even send out e-cards anymore!

Personally, I prefer it this way.. I would feel horrible to trash all those cards when they become junk. (Or are cards never meant to be trashed? )

I must admit I havent done cards in a while. its mainly because those in my circle haven't done cards in a while. So I may get a few cards with gifts and perhaps a card from a corporate but that's where the stream dries up for me. I miss that part of Christmas. The thing is that, back in the day (like some 20 years ago) I would hang them up somewhere, but if I forgot someone on my card list and they had sent me one, there was a story that developed from there and not one with "happily ever after..."

Still, it was an awesome tradition. Loved it. Not sure if your Seoulsearch Incorporated/Charity will get off the runway though. I mean...Roh as CFO?

Every year there is only person who always remembers to send me a Christmas card.... my car insurance agent. Not lying! And of course its a mass mailing thing that she sends to all her clients..

But I don't really care because... cards are just another money-making side to this giant multi-billion dollar commercialized frenzy we call Christmas..
