ahem. :)

i wondered how many people find a certain type of voice attractive.
sometimes i hear a man talk and wish i could have an mp3 of him reading the phone book or something.
NOT that i'm not perfectly content with my husband. (cuz he has a great sounding voice. ;))

is it just a thing with women? (or just me? lol) do men feel this, too?
do you think it has anything to do with the way your parents' voices sound?

do you appreciate the sound of a voice of someone of your sex?

i have to admit, if a grown woman is making her voice sound high pitched, i find it grating.

opinions? and thanks!

I've often found voices to be a lot like looks--I might not be attracted to a certain voice at first, but their personality might make even a high-pitched voice more endearing than annoying.

I'm not sure if I should publicly admit this (but I guess I am)--"back in the day" I used to stalk CC chat for certain user's voices and accents. There were certain chatters who were pretty prominent and so I'd leave the chatroom window on as if it were the radio.

To me, a voice/accent is like music and there are some people who could record themselves reading the dictionary or a phone book all day, and I would play it like I would an album.

Someone actually once recorded a book of the Bible for me (spoken) in a different language, and even though I can't understand the language, it's amazing to hear God's Word in such a calming voice.

Music to the soul, indeed.

I do find voices attractive. (Or off-putting, depending.) Not only the tone of the voice or the accent, but also the words used, the speed, deliberation... if I'm attracted to someone, their voice and way of speaking usually play a significant role in that.

Molly, I'm with you on Alan Rickman!

Ha ha I just saw this thread title "Voices" then
underneath "notmyown" and I thought maybe someone had
gone a bit dippy! :D

Ages ago I took a phone call from a customer and his voice was so low.
it was almost out of the range of normal hearing frequency. It practical made
my eye balls shake. Lol

It reminded me of something I saw on a nature programme of how elephants emit
rumbles so low in frequency that they can't really be heard but that the sound waves
travel for miles.

I don't think he was an elephant though !

in high school, a classmate of mine had the deepest voice i've ever heard. it was difficult hearing him cuz it was that low! one time, he was standing behind me calling my name, and it wasn't until he tapped me on the shoulder that i noticed! lol

one time, the teacher had us take turns reading out loud from the textbook. when it was his turn, everybody was like daaaang. "he sounds like he needs to be on late night radio with romantic music playing." lol!

You know which voice I cannot stand? That guy from "The Big Bang Theory." He's the reason I can't watch that show...and the movie "Home".

My ex husband once told me he hated my voice, I never forgot it and I think about it every time I'm called on to speak to people formally or even pray publicly - I can't. Words can have far-reaching implications. My ex probably doesn't even remember saying it.

I guess I don't really notice guys voices, but there are definitely some female voices and accents that I can't stand lol. Having said that, whoever voiced Princess Jasmine has the greatest voice of all time. :p

Her talking or singing voice? She had two different actresses for those. I really like her singing voice, who also voiced Mulan's singing voice. Lea Salonga.

there's a tv show i will watch a few minutes of to hear an actor's voice.
i'm such a child.

and though usually i sign in to CC quickly so as not to hear the chat (i always feel a little like an eavesdropper), there's one member with a deep voice and a slight southern drawl i pause to listen to.

annnd enough true confessions.
