Hey Peeps,

This thread title is a mash-up of Will Smith's "Gettin' Jiggy With It" (which was playing on the radio the other day), and the line, "Now Bring Us Some Figgy Pudding" from "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" (which was playing at the gym today.)

* What Christmas treats do you look forward to most?

* What events do you look forward to that involve making/sharing those treats? (Baking cookies with Grandma; a special holiday potluck or family get-together, family members preparing specific dishes, etc.)

* What treats do YOU specialize in making? Pictures are always welcome!! :D

My parents are very health-conscious, so baking "real" cookies was never an option. However, I did look forward to making (and eating) these most every year (no-bake cornflake "cookies"):

About 2 years ago, I got a hankerin' for those bad boys... and made them out of "Total" cereal flakes instead, trying to convince myself that they'd be more "healthy" that way. :D

What about you?

Tell us about all the ways that you and your family "Get Figgy With It!" :p

No... no... I think this would be the PERFECT time to be your friend!! :D

After all, the Bible says we should carry one another's burdens...

And I would be more than happy if you'd unload the burden of some of those handmade chocolates my way. :p

I bake a mean cheesecake! (Well, it's actually pretty nice, and sweet :p)

I'll have to post a picture when I actually bake one for this Christmas.

Well, my background is Italian. So, food is important :) Our tradition at Christmas is to make Sicilian cannoli from scratch. It's a big job but so worth it. We also make a lot of other cookies ( non-Italian as well).

My mom and I like to carry on the tradition of making Christmas cookies every year. My nephew used to help us too, but hes at that awkward teenager time in his life now and feels too awkward doing such a thing : p My little brother used to do it with us too, but hes been gone alot lately and no one knows where he is. And my other two siblings dont seem to enjoy doing things together as a family.

But, we still do it almost every year : p We make a few different kinds of cookies. We have the traditional plain sugar cookies that we cut out in Christmas shapes and decorate ourselves. I have an elephant cookie cutter that I like to use on Christmas too, mostly because its funny and people usually laugh when they see elephant cookies mixed in with all the Christmas shapes, and also cuz like when is it ever the right time to make elephant shaped cookies? : p

We also make peanut butter drop cookies with chocolate stars on top instead of whole hershy kisses (some people call them witch hats). I probly look forward to those more than anything, I think : p

Christmas has too many snacks and junk that I couldnt really pick a favorite. I mean, tbh I dont really enjoy eating the sugar cookies as much as I enjoy just making them with family : p But other than that I like all the foods on the holiday.

Oh, but not green bean casserole. I cant even look at it without being grossed out Dx

Hmm, Christmas traditions...

On Christmas Eve the whole family descends on Grandma's house. Menu is finger foods. For some reason finger foods on Christmas Eve became a tradition, I have no idea how. But any family dinner around here is something not to be missed.

On Christmas Eve aunt Diane makes me a cheese ball. This also has become a tradition. I don't know how it became a tradition, but I like it. :D

On Christmas Day the whole family reconvenes at Grandma's for breakfast, then we play dirty santa. Which reminds me, I still haven't found a good $10 gift for Christmas Day yet.

In the meantime my dog is looking forward to holiday scraps from our Christmas breakfast. Sausage from that local butcher shop where they make their own sausage, bacon, cheese and eggs, homemade buttermilk biscuits, milk gravy... Here in the south we do breakfast right. The dog is ever hopeful that somebody might start a biscuit and not want to finish it.
