What did you learn today?

Life is full of learning experiences...

Some big, some small, some funny, some sad.... Tell us what you learned today no matter how insignificant or silly it might seem. Maybe it's something that you want to vent about... well here's your chance! :)

I'll start...

This morning I learned the proper way to keep pasta from sticking together....

I used to always add olive oil but this time it didn't work too well with some angel hair pasta I cooked last night. Turns out that the proper way is to put it in a strainer once its done and drain out all the starch by running water through it.... and it helps to stir it for the first two minutes in the pot. :)

I learned to take joy in the little things, such as the rain holding back until you have something over your head

I learned you can download Windows ISO for Win8 for free. And it's legal! This is much different from what I remember of Windows.

Of course you need to buy a license to install it on a computer, but I need it to repair a friend's computer. (What, you didn't think I'd be caught dead with Win8 on MY computer did you?) But I thought you had to buy an OEM disk or something. I never knew you could download the ISO and burn your own disk like it was Linux or something.

I also learned you can run a vocal recording through an amp sim and crunch it like a guitar. This will be useful.

To be apathetic is a grim place. You spend so much energy convincing yourself that you don't care about the bad things going on, that you are then too tired to be able to take joy in the good things. In the end, the pain still isn't completely eradicated, just considerably dulled.

This is so sad, Emily. :( I wish I had some good advice for you. The only thing I can think of is that the bible says not to fret about things and not to be jealous when those who are evil are more successful or seem more blessed because it says they will soon wither away like the dead grass, and those who do good will be granted the things they desire in their hearts...

Psalm 37:1-5:

Do not fret because of evildoers,
Be not envious toward wrongdoers. For they will wither quickly like the grass
And fade like the green herb. Trust in the LORD and do good;
Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Delight yourself in the LORD;
And He will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the LORD,
Trust also in Him, and He will do it.

I hope you feel better, Emily.

(I actually need to take that advice myself...)

Jet lag can hit pretty hard sometimes. I thought I figured out how to beat it - turns out I have a margin of error.

I've been to so many airports now that I've actually lost track of where I've been.

Once upon a time as a young girl, I would go up to watch the night sky and wonder about airplanes and the people in them.

It's kind of cool that the woman that I am now, has crossed the oceans, lands and continents in airplanes (and other modes of transport). God has a beautiful way of writing my life story.

Oh, and the frequent flyer points are nice too.

Today I learned the most valuable lesson of them all...

People die when they are killed.

...Okay fine, I didn't learn anything new, lol.

I still do that. :) I'm almost jealous that you get to fly so much. If it wasn't for all the horror stories in the news, I'd be totally jealous! :rolleyes:

I learned about the Connecticut logging industry, which was the longest in the United States, from 1870-1915. When a logger drowned, the men would take his boots and hang them on a tree near the place he died. They said that even in the 1920s, people could see pairs of boots hanging from trees. As a true nerd, I tend to watch PBS more often than other channels.
