If you were never loved, you wouldn't spend time thinking about God. (aka, those who hate God don't think about him. Those who love God were first loved by God. And they continue being loved by him.)

I'm not sure what your relationship is with your dad, but he has got to appreciate your love for him. What truly makes people love someone is being loved by that someone.

As for me? I don't know you well enough to say I love you. But I know you well enough to say I really like you.
I was referring specifically to romantic love between a man and woman. I guess my intent got lost.

Love is not word
People can be so easy when they say it. But real love is an action.
1 chorrintians 13 is the real action of love.

I think love is so much more than a casual word. It is the basis of who God is. He that loves not knows not God for God is love. Not sure exactly where it says it in the bible but it's in there. Ironically, I truly learned what love within a marriage is..... after my divorce.Turns out I was totally ignorant on some things. Love truly is selfless and constant. It doesn't mean that we'll always hit the mark but it does mean that we'll strive to put our loved ones needs ahead of our own. In the context of marriage, if two selfless people tend to the needs of the other rather than constantly focus on themselves then their love would be expressed in action. Actions always speak lounder than words.

Actions always speak louder than words.
"The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences." -Proverbs 18:21

When words mean something and the one speaking does what they do out of Godly love you can be sure that they will reap a Godly reward. Scripture says that words have an impact in a very practical way.

A little force well-applied is much better than a lot when it is being applied by a fool.

God answers prayer.

I must be missing something. You just used the word love to say it isn't a word?

Perhaps what you mean is love is an adjective, not a noun?

I use the word love casually, but not until recent years have i realized it. 'I love that show', 'i love pizza', 'i love .. whatever'. In that context it is my way of saying 'i like this'.
But i also recognize the depth of the word in other contexts. When i say it to, or about, a person that's close to me, it means much more. It is purposefully said and has reasons i can support for why i say it.

I think the real misuse of love is how casually use it about others. People know one another a short time and start stating they love the other person.

But what makes the word love so easily cheapened is that we have one word that encompasses such a number of meanings. The Greeks had it right by having separate meanings for different kinds of love. They couldn't say 'i love X' to mean something casual but they had to specify what kind of love they felt. Which i, and i could be wrong, that it may have caused a more purposeful use of the word, since it had to be thought about more before being used.
Saying 'God loves you' or 'I love you' to your spouse, or a relative or child, are hard to distinguish because we have one basic concept of love. But the Greeks had words for each of these. Its more difficult to cheapen the meaning of five words rather than one.

I have always considered these words to have gravity and to not be thrown around casually. In fact, I personally use them sparingly so as not to cheapen them.I prefer to show love through my actions and attitudes rather than to use these words.
Too many people say ," I love you", but they love poorly or they do not know the object of their supposed affection. How can you love someone you haven't taken the time to know - and if you claim you love me - why do your actions betray your words?

Thoughts?
It depends in context. For example some of my very close friends from church would say I love you to me but it's basically as a brother and sister type thing.
