What kinds of things do you do to prepare for a date?

Clean your car? Shave your legs? Say a million prayers?

Inquiring minds would like to know.

Never been on a date but I'll let you know what I did if I ever go on one.

Touch up my makeup and hair, spritz on a bit of smelly good spray (subtle, to where he can think "Hmm she smells good", I don't want to knock him out from a mile away), then try to do something distracting like watch a YouTube video or browse the internet to calm me down. Usually tell myself over and over "It's just an hour of my life so even if it's terrible it's just an hour."

I have only been on a few dates, but I'm usually pretty laid back once the initial nervousness wears off. It's when I'm trying to "flirt" with random crushes that I get super awkward and flailing and spurt out the most random, weird stuff. And there's no helping that.

I wasn't a christian when I was dating so prayer wasn't part of it. I just did the basic stuff.. clean car, make sure the inside is clean, shower, shave, spend 45 minutes on the hair (the hair has to be PERFECT!), try on about 10 different shirt and pant combinations before deciding on what to wear... put on good shoes and make sure they aren't dusty first, lightly sprayed cologne, run to the bank for some cash... then its off to the races! (yea I guess you could've called me a "metrosexual" back then, but I'm not sure if the word even existed yet...)

after looking at some of the comments I feel like a outsider.. I dont overdo my routine..opposite lol!!! I put the absolute least time into a dating routine. Completely me only. No makeup, all I do is some protection prayers.. No need for high heels. Especially when ur around and about like me, Im just me, not even attempting to be someone else.

I don't usually prepare much before a date. I just try to look my usual self but a little more presentable, unless it's a date with someone I have a prior crush on, maybe I will buy a new outfit or put on some make up and get my hair done which could be a bad idea because i'm setting myself up for frustration due to high expectations.

Enjoy your date Helloooo. They say the first or second date will tell you if you have chemistry. A good advice I heard is to keep it short and keep your expectations low to enjoy it.

Ah Polo. I bought the first one they released, 30 years ago. Still buy it today.

Pre date routine.

As a happily married man of 25 years who had his last date 28 years ago, I would say be yourself.
What you see is what you get.

Mind you that's the beginning of courtship.

It feels good to give an impression, just make sure it's the right impression. That is 'this is me'

I should add that one reason I got so dressed up was because we were going to someplace nice... (I like to take my dates to nice restaurants, and of course its my treat... but they usually insist on paying their own way... modern women! *sigh*)

"Date" is such a loaded word.
I think I would begin by saying to myself,
"We're just getting together."
So I would assure her that she does not need to pressure herself.
However, I would-- at the same time-- prepare plans B and C--
should she be unimpressed, bored, or craving something different.
I might pitch, "Let's go watch the fireworks," but I would also have "or we could just meander the museum."
I would likely get her a small gift to remember the occasion, but not flowers.
For food, we would agree to go somewhere neither of us have been.
I would budget to pay for us both, so that would be considered.
If she is interested in doing something like that again,
then I will suggest that she write 3 things down and I write 3 things down. Then she'll draws one randomly of my 3,
and I will draw 1 of her 3. If we can can do both, then we will. Otherwise, I will go with her selected choice.

The other stuff: Call someone to pray for the date's experience-- and mine.
Clean the vehicle and add the scented thingy of her choice. (so I'll need to know her preferred scent in advance, or she can bring her own :D ) Finally, aside from other male prep, I'd agree on the type of clothing to wear, so neither of us overdresses.
Hopefully she will make that call, so I can dress to her liking.

Truly, when it comes to dating, I am not about fancy as much as friendship.
My first date of interest included grabbing a potato and BBQ; we split it.
Since then, there have been different scenes and conversations.
But they all have been simple to their core.

The key for me, above all else: Will she pause to pray with me... on a simple meetup, date, whatever?

Shave my eyebrows, take a shower with extra soap, clean the inside of my car, clean some clothes for me to wear....
That is about it...
After the date it normally goes with me googling "how to have a conversation with women"... lol :p

I don't go on 'dates'. Hate the whole idea. I form friendships and let those blossom into romance. I avoid the whole 'putting on an act to impress a stranger' thing.

Aww, good pep talk! Nerves make us forget simple things

You really go extra miles there, asking preferred car scent of choice! And coordinating your outfits.

I can't get my car spotless unless i get it professionally detailed these days (which I don't because I'm being cheap) my dog and i track sand EVERYWHERE, (um, I don't have a driveway yet and we go to the park a lot) and I park under trees so I get all kinds of sap and seeds and stuff stuck to the outside. I used a hand vacuum to get what I can but it's a hopeless situation for now. But I do put a "new car" scented freshener in my car, so that counts for something, right?

Touch up my makeup and hair, spritz on a bit of smelly good spray (subtle, to where he can think "Hmm she smells good", I don't want to knock him out from a mile away), then try to do something distracting like watch a YouTube video or browse the internet to calm me down. I like to binge watch the office to distract myself :D
I also try to strike a good scent balance with perfume/lotion, seems many of us have that in common (i see all you polo sport fans)
I have an ex who wore lacoste and it fiercely reminds me of him every time I smell it. And lavender makes me queasy now after an experience I had when I was sick. Scent is so powerful.
