A national broadway touring company performed The Sound of Music in my current "home town" and today I was fortunate to see it. Wow..it was incredible!!

The musical number "My Favorite Things" was always my favorite. Driving home I had started thinking about what some of my favorite things are. Thought it might make a great thread.

Disclaimer: I did do some research on the forum and near as I can tell we have had one or two similar threads but I was unable to locate one identical. My apologies if there has been one recently.

So let's give it a bash eh? What are some of your favorite things......

To get started, a few of mine are:

A Field of Daiseys
Getting an I Love You from my son for no reason at random
Seeing a very elderly couple holding hands in the park
Feeling the sun or ocean on my face
Getting goosebumps and tingling during a sermon or while listening to our choir
The smell and smile of a baby
boxer puppies
the smell and first sip of bold coffee in the morning
crawling into a "made bed" at night (not one crumpled and unmade)

Your turn.....

A soft breeze on a warm day.

The couple
holding hands remind me of a tune thats been in mind the past days..
The song not necessarily my favorite, but somehow the words were memorable:

And as if it were planned,
He stayed on with me and
it was grand
just to stand
with his hand
holding mine...
to the end of the line. From The Trolley Song

"petrichor"

this is the name for the thick, wet, loamy scent that arises from the ground when the first light rains fall on dry soil.

fog, mist, especially as the sun rises through and over it.

the unbroken, monochrome sea of texture, and the crisp quietness of the earth after snowfall

these things blank out the world, and remind me how temporary, how illusory it is. like static

i also love AM static
the flowing, pulsing buzz in-between stations, catching and releasing signals as one motors across hills and valleys at high interstate speeds, on empty late-night highways on the way to places you love to be, towards people you love to be with

opening the car windows in winter and turning up the heaters

and the wispy steams that rise from pavement after summer rain

A cat purring on my lap.

Seeing something at the store that I know a person will like, buying it and giving it to him. "What's the occasion?" "Umm... it's Thursday. Happy Thursday! Go ahead, open it, open it!"

When the song in my head doesn't come out in computer soundtracks the way I imagined it, but it sounds better than I imagined it would.

The smell and smile of a baby
I hear this all the time, and I don't like how babies smell. To me they always smell like spit up...have I been smelling the wrong babies? I mean it...I really have never smelled a baby that I enjoyed the scent of but I hear that a lot.

- Cat paws
- Dog noses
- Storms, particularly lightning shows and awesome cloud formations
- Mountains
- The smell of decaying aspen leaves. It's very specific, fresh and tangy and woodsy
- Fresh sheets (bonus if they were dried outside and have that "fresh outside" smell)
- The little "blip" sound bubbles make when they pop
- Snow

How light is reflected
How straws are refracted
How sponges absorb and release
How feet sound running across a wooden pier
How clapping echoes
How people who do not understand smile (often nodding)
How cramming works (especially if the subject was learned in advance)
How neighbors problem solve together
How scientists science stuff :D
How God answers prayer

I feel like there are so many things I can add to this list : p

Lets see what I can come up with.........

-A gentle breeze on a warm day

-Cool summer nights

-When people reply to something with very obvious sarcastic remarks when they dont want to do something.
(Oh, why of course Id like to do that for you. I live to serve. haha : p)

-Riding in a car while listening to music

-Colored lights
(I actually have colored rope lights hanging on each wall of my bedroom)

-Male singers with higher pitched sensitive singing voices who sing in sad songs
(dont judge me)

-Having silly and fun conversations with friends

-When the sun rises in the morning

-Watching people who treat bass guitar like an instrument and not an extension of the drum set play bass guitar

-Seeing a happy couple holding hands or smiling at each other

-When I come up with a new melody that I feel excited about

-When you have that feeling of sharing a close bond with someone

-Cheesy and funny storylines in pieces of fiction, like in cartoons or tv shows and junk like that

-Cuddling under my blanket with the fan blowing on me when Im trying to sleep
(I use my fan every single night, even in the winter)

-The first snow fall of winter

-Emotionally driven melodies that make me feel something, and reflect on things in life

-The color pink

-Furry animals

-When dogs treat you like youre the most special friend in the world to them

-Bracelets

-The food that you find in a Chinese buffet

-Pizza

-The sound of a train rolling down the tracks

-When a loved one tells you they love you. Im not always good with the response for it cuz Im shy, but I am always very happy to hear it

-Dual colors, like red and blue

-Grey skies

-Seeing the lightning bugs gather around the trees at night

-Calm, flowing and pretty melodies (Im not a poppy person : p)

-Friendly rivalries

-Retro technology and electronics

-Watching urban exploration videos

-Inside jokes among friends

-Music by bass guitarist/pianist Armitsead Burwell Smith

-Cheesy keyboard effects and sounds

-Seeing good people prevail over bad people in works of fiction

-Early American history

-That feeling I get when I actually manage to make someone laugh

-The nights before my days off, cuz I know that I can do whatever I want without worry of having to be up and ready for something the next day : p

-Exchanging gifts with a special friend of mine

-Being an encouragement to the faith of others

-Playing music with friends

-Having something to be excited for. Like a new movie I want to see or a coming holiday. I always enjoy and appreciate the anticipation of having something to look forward to

Okay, Ive spent enough time on this list : p Might add more later if I can think of any though.

Dipping my nose in a newly-opened can of coffee, and inhaling slowly and deeply...

Waking up and finding that I've actually slept past 6 AM on a weekend...

Being "in the groove" with my worship team...

Smelling heliotrope, carnations, or the heady aroma of a garden full of mixed flowers...

Getting lost in a good book...

Feeling the golf club connect properly with the ball, and knowing the shot is good even before I watch it...

Fellowship around a table game with the guys...

Pausing to watch a hawk soar...

Babies smell new. :) Really, they do smell like milk, and baby lotion, and a sweet smell. They smell good until they have dirty diapers. Next time you are around a baby, take a whiff of his hair. You won't regret it. :)
