I remember hearing on like old-timey tv shows and movies as a kid that "cooking is the fastest way to a man's heart", or something like that. I like to think about that sometimes, like is that true? Does that apply to everyone?

I was thinking that it would be cool to hear others opinions on this, either for themselves or their experiences in relationships with others.

I dont personally believe that cooking would be a good way to my heart, but I guess it couldnt hurt : p I will say, it would be cool to meet someone who actually enjoyed the same kind of foods that I did. Like, no one in my life likes the kind of foods that I do. Like one thing I really want to do is go out for Mexican food. But no one I know is willing to do it. The closest I can get anyone to do is to get microwave burritos, which isnt fun : (
It would be cool to be with someone who actually enjoys the kind of stuff you do : p

As for the fastest way to my heart or whatever, I dont really know : p Im gonna think about that one...
Id like to hear what others think though.

Unless a woman is well versed in making raw vegan food, then that's not gonna work with me.

Now, on the other hand, if she can do that, then I may have a gem in my midst.

Then you've got my heart, soul and money. ;)

I can cook for my own self. I also do my own laundry. And almost everything else I do for myself quite well.

The way to my heart would be through my Universal translator. I need one. I'm not very good at talking to people in real time. I'm always saying things one way and getting them understood another way. If I ever found a girl who was a good "face man" for me, I would marry her on the spot.

I personally don't think it's for everyone. Though I appreciate my favorite meals being made for me I wouldn't say it's the fastest way to my heart. Multiple aspects go in to it not just one thing. On the flip side I personally believe one of the fastest way to a womans heart is a man who cooks her. Breakfast in bed, dinner etc. I believe women appreciate those type of things more than guys do.

I would be more concerned about whether she is a pagan than whether she is a vegan :) I can do the cooking myself.

(anyone can reply to to this thread with their thoughts btw, just in case someone out there thought that this was only for one half of the human population)

And after thinking about it for a bit, I think the most important thing is just like a kindred spirit, like someone who actually understands you, and knows you.

Like, for me, someone who understands that having a strong stance on certain issues or being passionate about something you believed in doesnt make you hateful and filled with rage would be something that reached to me. Or like someone who understands that you dont totally feel comfortable with following along with the typical behaviors that are expected in society, like fulfilling the image of societal roles and all that, and feeling the same way.

Also, someone who can make sense of and understand you when you struggle with words, and forming understandable sentences :p

But yeah, someone who actually sees you for you, and understands you would be the easiest way to win me over, I think : p

I believe that there is an element of truth in that saying. A woman cooking for her man is something that is easily grasped by all the senses. Cooking food is one thing, a woman preparing food for her man with love in her heart is something else all together. It is very scrumptious and satisfying. Delectable and nutritious. Nothing like home cooking.

Well it's no requirement for me either but it wouldn't hurt. I have been accused of being a picky eater though, so I reckon it probably just drive them away.

Lol "raw vegan food" gave me a chuckle.

How hard can a salad be to make?

Hubby's cooking skills would make it in a 4-star restaurant. (We like real food, not tiny spoonfuls, so he wouldn't make it in a 5-star.) At my best, I am up there with diner food (without the salt or grease.) I've branched out to making meatloafs and casseroles only recently. When we first met, I knew one thing about cooking -- "60 minutes in a 350 degree oven." If the meat or potatoes didn't finish cooking enough in that amount of time? Well, we were married before he told me that black stuff near the joint in the chicken leg was blood, therefore we weren't suppose to eat undercooked chicken like that. I didn't even know that much.

Dad cooked 2-3 times a week, and mostly it was fried or deep-fried. But it was also every kind of meat imaginable -- pork, beef, and chicken were rare. We usually had squirrel, rabbit, quail, pheasant, venison, duck, or freshwater fish. Dad hunted, so we usually ate whatever he got that week. (He's also good at making snapping-turtle soup. Not good with fishhead stew or fried eel, but he only made us try it once.)

When he retired, he went back to school to learn how to be a cook to get a job on a scuba diving boat. (Never finished that school because he didn't like taking basic courses -- history, English, and math. Math particularly, because he was a chemical engineer required to take first-year college math. lol)

My older brother was good at fresh-meat dinners. Fresh-meat, as in pick up the rifle next to the door, open the door, shoot a chicken out of a tree, gut it and have sister (me) pluck it. Or feed the pig before sending it off to the butcher's. That was dinner that night. (And the vegetable was pokeweed he found in his woods, so very homey dinners.)

My younger brother is a chef.

Sooo, really? I'm of the persuasion that says the fastest way to my heart is food. If a guy wants a good meal, I'll be more than happy to eat what he serves. And I'm willing to work for my food. That is, I'll pluck the bird, peel the potatoes, snap the beans, and wash the dishes. Just don't expect me to make the dinner.

I think the quickest way to a man's heart is through the chest, probably with a knife.

It's not preferable but it's the quickest way.

I never met a guy that cared at all if a woman can cook. I think most the guys here dont care either, they are just joking around.

well..
If they are already been married a few years then thats not getting into his heart, that would just be him screaming at his wife cause he wants food and too lazy to get it himself. Thats just being self centered and a bad husband IMO.
My gf cooks because she likes to be a good woman to me and what gets into my heart is not the cooking but the fact that shes being a good girl and doing it for me.

This reminds me of something that happened to me this weekend. I was working at my son's swim meet. I had to fry a lot of bacon for the coaches and officials. I came in to watch a race and sat next to a dad watching the swimming. He leaned in a little close...I said, I smell like bacon don't I? He said...yes...you're making me hungry. Not sure if it would be the way to every man's heart but it might not hurt to make a perfume "la bacon"
