I know, he died in 75, I think. The year my parents married. I was born in 79. I grew up listening to Elvis, my father was a big fan. We had Elvis movies on tape, so he was my formative male hero. For some reason, I think people (men and women) looked better back in the 1950s. Maybe it is because they were so neat, while many people nowadays are so slovenly- going out in sweat pants and things like that. I missed my time frame. I really should have been alive in the 1950s. I sure would have felt more comfortable.

Lol This is absolutely hilarious. Lucky number 27, I almost feel compelled to go out and WARN young women of their impending doom- being an old maid at the age of 27. I would imagine there are thousands of women past 27 who have no idea they are no longer viable. Ignorance is bliss, so they say.

What I loved most about Elvis, and Micky Mantle, two icons from the 1950's, is their country innocence and general decency. Elvis was criticized for being a something of a tempter of young people down the wrong path with rock and roll music.
I look at young Elvis, and young Mantle and see two of the most decent celebrities before fame got to them in later years. Even then, you you could see how humble in their hearts they were and what great core values they had.

When one of them retired, and the other other died 8 years later, it was truly the end of era.

Not solely because of them of course, but they are like yardsticks for days we will never ever see again in world history.

Until Jesus comes back that is.
Almost brings tears to my eyes to see how fall we have fallen in this country.

That we would have never know the difference between good and evil.

JosephsDreams, I remember what a certain comedian named Lewis Grizzard said about that.

"I am so glad that my mother has lived to see the new generation of rock and roll singers. She has done forgiven Elvis. He may have shook his pelvis but he didn't show it to nobody."

    Timely thread.
I just got back from taking my 2 daughters to see Beauty and the Beast. It only just occurred to me that it can in some ways be viewed as a parable to some themes in the bible.
But then again, all great literature has some elements of that.

Here's an interesting factoid about age and appearance. Back when they were both young enough to be the leading man and lady: emma thompson and hugh grant starred in Sense and Sensibility together. Here they are:

    sense.JPG

One of them made the comment during cast interviews that a lot of people who saw the movie gave feedback that she was too old for him, which was rather ironic because they are roughly the same age. Some of it might have been the character, but it might also indicate that general perceptions rate a 25 (or 27) year old woman as somehow much older than a 25 year old man (don't know if that's anywhere near the ages they were at the time, just pulling that number out of thin air). Just something I thought about while reading this thread.

Time catches up with everyone. No matter how pretty/ handsome someone is time is going to catch up to him/her, but I will have to admit that there are some women in there 40's 50's who can put most 20 something year olds to shame in the looks department, but they are very very few and far between, but even if they live to be a ripe old age time will eventually catch up with them. Like the wise saying goes: "Father time is undefeated."

Humans are not animals. That is just 'evolution' garbage. The Bible teaches us otherwise...

Yes, there are similarities in biology... This only shows that God used wisdom when He made both man and animals. However, God tells us in the scriptures that He made us different than the animals...

( EDIT: However, I do like a lot of what you wrote in that post... )

I dunno Gary... whenever I have anything edible in my hand my dog takes it waaaaay out of context. Much as you took Hungry's quote waaaaaay out of context.

I understand what you're saying, Gary.

But it's curious to me then that if this is what's governing the survival of these people... Why would the devil be able to preserve his own from, say, the 60's... but not the 80's?

Did some kind of contract expire in that he was no longer able to keep a good number of "his" 80's pop culture "icons" alive?

Now of course, it's not our place to judge the spiritual status of these people. But according to what you're saying, why would the earlier generations be chosen to carry on, while the more recent are dying in droves?
Being catfished is one of the worst online experiences you can have.

If that person you're talking to seems too good or too good-looking to be real... It's probably because they AREN'T. Or at least, they aren't being real... with you. Please, be careful! <3

Because by this logic either God designed us to be monogamous and then also designed men to not naturally want to be monogamous. Or God created us to be polygamous and with those desires, knowing that we would sin and circumstances would require us to be monogamous for our own good. Of course I consider it also a possibility that God created people different from animals and biochemistry is not the sum total of our story. And if that's possible then it isn't an unreasonable conclusion that a lot of these biology only arguments may have less to do with truth than they do with sinful men wanting to justify and excuse their sinfulness.
I do not believe that God "programmed" men to want multiple sexual partners. I believe that idea is an evolution-based "carry-over" from animals ( where, scientifically, it is shown to be true ). Satan wants men to think that they are "just another [ kind of ] animal"; thereby, they should want multiple sexual partners. ( so it would go )

This is one of the things that actually separate humans from animals. God gave us something "extra" that the animals do not have -- and, it makes the difference where love, romance, sex, etc. are concerned.

Animals do not marry. Humans do. There is a reason for this... ( and, it was God's idea from the beginning )

Might not have so much to do with the devil's intervention, might be the combination of more potent drugs that people are using and addicted to and the difference between a generation that rebelled against their society's morals and a generation that never received any of those morals to begin with. Let's face it, life's pretty meaningless when you think you're just another purposeless animal that nature somehow magically spit out.
