Men: Would you marry someone LIKE your mom? A woman with the same personality, values and beliefs as your mom? Why or Why not?

No. I'm no being weird. Research actually shows that a lot of women have a tendency to marry a man like their dad. I just want to pose the question here to see what you guys think about it.

No. I wouldn't intentionally marry a man like my dad. Unfortunately, my dad is an alcoholic, although he has some degree of functionality. He's been able to maintain a job over the years, but I'm not a big fan of alcoholism. I've seen first hand the damage it can cause. That's why I never drink alcohol.

    Yes, absolutely.

My dad is my hero. From his work ethics to his personal life and commitment to his family, everything about him inspires me.

That said, I don't want any dude to think he has to parent me. I have a strong sense of autonomy and independence. I would love to work together in a relationship but I definitely don't need some guy to do anything for me. My parents raised me up well .

Fathers (and moms) being great role models! That's beautiful.

My dad doesn't have a very close walk with the Lord, so I would have to say no.

Definitely! My dad was a fantastic role model for how a husband should always be, he treats my mother like she's just a star. My parents have never argued and my dad would walk the earth to get her a blade of grass if she wanted it. My grandpa taught me in his marriage with my grandma was true love and dedication is. It's going to be hard for anyone to live up to that but God's will is perfect and I put my faith in Him.

The facts show people tend to marry people whose Personality reflects that of the opposite gender parent. Though, also, many times negative behaviors are repeated as well. This is why many abused children grow up to marry abusers.

My belief is people will do so because it's comfortable and familiar. This largely applies to first marriages. But can apply to second or more if a person doesn't learn from negative first marriages.

I see. Well, I might tend to sling shot the other way. I have never been very comfortable with my dad, and have seen a lot of things I would NOT want my marriage partner to have. But that might also mean the parts of my dad that I really admire (sense of humor, knowing how to have a good time, good conversational skills) might be lacking in the man I marry. Interesting thought, anyway.

No. My Dad has many good qualities but a very bad temper. It frightens me when he is angry when driving and drives dangerously. He also doesn't believe in religion, although is prepared to consider obscure extra terrestrial theories. I wish I could find a Christian husband to help bring some harmony into the family since all of the Christian men (Grandfathers) have died and they used to be peacemakers.

The most powerful source of influence in the child's life is the same sex parent.
Girls learn how they should be treated by a man, by the way their dad treats them and their mother. If he's abusive from such a young age, young girls are more likely to be susceptible (although not guaranteed because of other influences) to have low self esteem and tolerate all forms of abuse in relationships. God blessed me with the best dad and grandpa who personified dignity and respect and I've lived that out in all areas of my life.

The great news for anyone who knows the Lord, is that no matter what walk of life you came from, no matter what you've experienced, girls can come to know their heavenly father, irrespective of what their earthly father has been. There's no place for anything but the best for us in God's will for our lives. When we know our Lord and His will for us, we naturally don't allow anything from the enemy in to rob us of our worth and value.

My mother was an alcoholic as well. I also never drink alcoholic beverages. Sweet tea, fruit juice, water, and coffee are all I need.

I would marry someone with the same values, Christian values, as my father of course. But they don't have to be exact. As far as personality, I think I'd prefer not. I drive Dad insane as it is, I don't want to drive my hubby insane too.
