Who do you see when you look in the mirror? The older I get the more my face resembles my mother's face and my maternal grandmother's. That's true for a lot of people. In my youth, I really didn't see such a strong resemblance. However, in my middle age, it's very strong, and I'm okay with that. It makes me feel more closely connected with my family tree and those that came before me. Praise God, I have a lot of respect for my mother and grandmother. My grandmother was a woman of strength and dignity and so is my mom.

With that being said, do you see your mother, father or any other family members staring back at you when you look in the mirror?

It reminds me of that progressive insurance commercial.

I look a little awkward and chubby in real life, tbh...and I'm just 1 rep away from having to show my face, unblurred...(it was a promise I made in my user profile)

Well. It isn't easy to remember what I look like. I mean... Well.... I know it is me because I'm the only one there, but if II was good at drawing faces and I needed to draw myself I wouldn't really know what I look like unless I first look in the mirror and stare at myself to remember myself.
I have a rough idea what I look like though! Me!

I can't see very many family features, unfortunately. I do see a little of one aunt. And I move like my older sister. And I have my dad's eyes. And I've been TOLD like I look like almost every sibling and both parents. SO. I guess I'm related :D.

Definitely a blend of both of my parents, but there are family traits that are on one side and not the other. When I don't dye my hair... I definitely see my mother and it scares the snot outta me! (Never look in the mirror when you get out of the shower and your hair is slicked back)!

Yeah... You are only 18. In my youth, I didn't see my family resemblance that strongly either, but wait til you get a bit older. Seems like you morph into one of your family members - mom, dad or another close relative. Just wait. lol

Every time I looked into
The mirror on the wall
I began to make a list
Of every tiny flaw
Mirror, mirror on the wall
Change the shape I see
But every time I went by
I saw the same old me

So I went tearing down the temple
That He formed of me
I never stopped to think about
The hurting it would bring
I was tearing down the temple
To meet my selfish needs
Trying hard to find a way
To create a perfect me
By tearing down the temple

Look in my eyes
You might see a dim reflection
Of a memory or a recollection
Of a day gone before
Then I was wise
At least in my own beholding
Oh the vanity of youth was golden
When my way was my own

But when you look me in the heart
You'll see that I'm changing
When you look me in the heart
His holiness shows
Cause underneath this mortal frame
The Lord is reigning
You will see Him when
You look me in the heart

Great thread, Proverbs 35, as always. :)

Personally, I've never liked looking in the mirror, and still don't, because it's a constant reminder to me that I am "different" and that I have no "real" place.

Sure, I have "my identity in Christ" (as all the good church people told me while I was growing up), but as an adoptee who is a different race than her parents and has no known history of her past, I always felt like the leftover puzzle piece that doesn't fit into any puzzle.

I always envied people who were told that they look "just like their" mother, father, cousin, etc., and I've often felt an inner mourning over the fact that I will never have a known biological relative. I adore the parents who raised me, but I am very different from them, and have often wondered if I'm "like" anyone else on earth, in any given way.

Ironically, I had a friend several years ago who was an identical twin, and she felt as if she didn't fit anywhere because of the exact opposite reason--she resembled another human being so closely that she was treated as if she were the same person as her sister, and never felt as if anyone allowed her to have an identity of her own.

Because of stories like this, I always feel drawn to people who feel like they don't fit in, and especially to those who are acting out in ways that some people might not understand. My prayer for them is always, "Oh Lord, no one understands, but I know you do. Please help them, because they don't know who they are..."

As I navigate my way through this life... When I look in the mirror, I see someone who can more accurately define whom she is--by learning more about whom she is not.
