Hey Everyone,

Since the old thread has often been bumped, I figured it was time to make a new, modern version of this poll.

Sorry--no frills or extraordinarily corny jokes this time--just a few good old-fashioned demographics. For the sake of privacy, this poll is going to be anonymous (but still multiple choice in case you feel that more than one answer fits your situation.)

I'm always interested in people's individual situations and stories, and while we may all be single, each of our places has both unique challenges and achievements.

For example, as stated in the old thread, someone who's been single 6 months is most likely in a different place than someone who's been single 6 years.

And someone who is 46 and has been "single their whole life" is facing a very situation from someone who is 16 and has been single their entire life (which is why I've added a few new "categories" to this poll.)

Please don't let the poll act as a substitute for making a post. :) I always write polls with the hope that they will be a complement to a good discussion rather than replacing the conversation altogether.

Here are some questions to hopefully spark our discussion (these questions are merely ideas to get people talking--feel free to share anything that's on your mind.) :)

* What is your definition of "single"? Does this just mean you've never been married? If you are in a relationship, how does that work? ("I'm single but taken"... ?)

* Do you like being single? Why or why not?

* What are some things God has taught you during your time of being single?

Please give me a few minutes to write the poll. I always write the answers off the top of my head, so it takes me a while.

Thanks in advance for participating and sharing.

If you're single, you are definitely not alone. We (along with our heavenly Father) are all in this together. Hopefully, we can all support and help each other along on our journey. :)

(Marrieds, please don't feel excluded. I might not have any poll answers that fit your situation feel free to tell us about what your life was like when you were single, too, and maybe tell us a bit about how your life changed when you got married.)

Re: How Long Have You Been Single? (The Brand-Spankin' New & Updated 2017 Version!)

My first marriage ended in divorce after 6 1/2 years. I was single and celibate for 18 years before I remarried. My second marriage ended due to death of my spouse after 11 years 2 months. Somehow God brought another wonderful woman in my life and I remarried after only 10 months. We will celebrate our 3rd anniversary in November.

During most of those 18 years bitter memories of how I was treated during my first marriage remained. After about 15 years I was tired of just waking up alone, going to work, coming home alone and going to bed alone. I became extremely lonely and felt that I was just basically living for myself. I had love in my heart but no one to share it with. I prayed for 3 years for God to search and find a woman of my heart's desire.

My wife had a debilitating illness her entire life. Before I physically met her I believe that I heard God asked me if I was willing to love her, be faithful to her and take care of her. He told me to count the cost before making my decision. I said yes. It was a very hard marriage due to her illness and her two adult children. Her son was especially a disruptive influence during my entire marriage. I did my best to take care of my wife's many constant needs while working full time and dealing with her adult kids. She died in Feb 2014 due to a pulmonary embolism.

While there was hardship during this marriage and years of isolation from my family, there was also great love. It was well worth the cost.

I love the woman that I am married to now and I'm still trying to do my best, by the grace of God to take care of her, and be a loving and faithful husband. She has a daughter that lives close by but she treats me pretty good and is a positive person. My wife loves my daughter who is the same age as her daughter and my grandkids We are going to visit them in Michigan in October.

I certainly don't look down at anyone who is single. I don't really envy their freedom either because I love being a husband to my wife.

There will not be a forth marriage.

Re: How Long Have You Been Single? (The Brand-Spankin' New & Updated 2017 Version!)

Whoo...long winded explanation incoming...

I was with my first wife a total of 4.5 years before that ended. Prior to that, I had been single for about 4 years. After my first divorce, I was single for about 6 months before I met the woman who would be my second wife. We played house for a couple of years before marrying, and the marriage ended almost three...three and a half...years later. I've been single since that second marriage imploded, coming up on 7 years. All told, I've been single far more than I've been in relationships.

I like being single. No particular reason. I just do. It suits me. I'm not friendly, nor affectionate, nor forthcoming with sharing my emotions with somebody, nor willing to trust anyone, nor a fan of physical expressions of "love", nor the type of person that wants children. All together, there's no reason for me to be anything other than single and celibate. Works for me.

I've been single, as in not in an exclusive relationship, for over 11 years. I've been single, as in not married, my whole life (almost 25 years).

You were going steady when you were 13?

That's all most of us really need.
I only had to take one year of math because I was in ROTC, I chose the easiest math they had.

I have been single by every definition for my whole life, 39 years so far.

Does a pet count? I have had multiple dogs and cats, though only one of each at any given time. They are always outside pets, never allowed inside, so I don't think they can even count as a live-in relationship. =^.^=

Re: How Long Have You Been Single? (The Brand-Spankin' New & Updated 2017 Version!)

Well. I've always been single so far as in never been married. Had several near misses. Well. One near miss as in we were almost married... I did pray to God for a wife. After seeing her for ages (Well. It seemed like it! Actually a couple of months) her sister let it slip that she was already married!
Was my first serious dating in my mid 30's.
