Hey Singles!

I'm guessing most of us would be pretty happy if we had a date set up for this weekend.

But for those of us who don't... While we're waiting on that special someone (or potential candidates to stalk ;)), let's talk about a part of dating that's REALLY crucial:

If you were to invite someone to a meal, WHAT would you be having?

I can readily admit that I was a much better (and more ambitious) cook back in the days when I had someone to cook for.

But, being a long-time single... This is one of my personal favorites and would hope my date would be happy to accept me (and my "cooking") as is.

For instance, he would be treated to:

1. (Left) fried egg with cheddar. Of course I'd attempt to cook his eggs in another style if he should so fancy. However, I'm not guaranteeing any miracles that they will turn out exactly the way he wants them.

2. (Right) hashbrowns cooked to perfection. (My idea of it at least--crispy but not TOO crispy with no mushiness or "mealy" texture.) But again, I would try to make any accommodations to another person's personal tastes.

3. And now, for the main course. :D This was definitely a splurge, seeing as I usually do NOT bake: "Fudgy Oatmeal Chocolate Bars". You can't see it, but there's a layer of fudge running right through the middle. I can't guarantee how they actually taste... but I'll find out in an hour when they cool down.

Since it IS a date, after all, I might even serve up the food on a real plate instead of just slamming everything into a plastic bowl like I normally do. And yes, the proportions of each entree, for me at least, are pretty accurate, seeing as I'll probably have the egg, half the hashbrowns, and about 3 chocolate bars!! :D

How about the rest of you?

If a date were to join you for a meal, what would you be having?

Pictures would be awesome but are optional--you can just use descriptions if you'd like. And it doesn't have to be anything home-cooked or fancy--if your dinner is a Triple Bonus Value Meal from Burgers4Ever, feel free to tell us about it and/or post a picture if you'd plan to take a date there.

After all, for many busy singles, the definition of "cooking"--is putting together a sandwich.

And, marrieds are welcome to post to. What kind of meals/foods have you and your spouse been having on your date nights? :) We singles just might learn something.

So c'mon, everyone, if a date were having dinner (or any other meal) with you, what would you all be having? :D

Absolutely.

Dinner will be served in an hour, when they've officially cooled down. :p

P.S. If you try to take them all, I may just have to slap your hand. ;)

(After all, it's not a real date if the woman doesn't wind up slapping the guy, right?) :D

Seoulsearch...woman...you should post that recipe. My little one would love those! Maybe a little toasted coconut...

Roasted chicken marsala, crispy red potatos, stuffed mushrooms, steamed asparagus. Fresh baked honey wheat rolls. Some homemade Dutch caramel apple pie a'lamode.
And he can take the left overs home.

I picked up a box of chicken from Po' Folks, my wife made some grits, and we toasted some bread. Ate it in front of the TV, watching Duck Dynasty.

The perfect meal.

I am happy to oblige!

Ok... so seeing as I ALWAYS seem to mess up SOMETHING when I make an attempt at cooking...

The ones I made are not really "bars"--I'm trying one right now and have to use a spoon.

I'm pretty sure it's because I used milk choc chips (my favorite! Take that, Lynx! :p) instead of semi-sweet, and, it's super blazing hot today so I'm sure that's not helping them "cool down" or hold a shape. So... If you don't mind having to use a utensil in order to eat a "cookie bar", come on over.

I can't wait to see what the rest of y'all are having.

I'm thinking... I'm going to be inviting myself over to eat with most of you. :)

And, I'd LOVE to see any international dishes/comfort foods as well from people in other countries. Who knows, we might even spark a few matches in here....

I guess I should have called this "The Culinary Crushes Thread." :)

Nothing says romantic like, free hot sauce. I'm pretty sure they have free refills of soda there also. It's a can't lose fast food restaurant. lol

If it were tonight, she would have eaten fried eggs, sausage links, and wheat toast.

If tomorrow night, it's fried cabbage and hamburger. Stick around for the cabbage farts. Those are rad.

I wanted to "like" this post.

I really did.

And then I read the last two sentences.

Ladies, never go to dinner with Yahweh if certain doom (aka, flatulence) is on the menu.

Actually, Yahweh, I think I have the perfect solution for you.

You just need to find a military gal whose special skills and area of expertise includes a mastery of chemical warfare (I'm thinking specifically, toxic gas attacks.)

Don't you worry. We're gonna find a girl for you yet.

Well the most important question would be, What Are Mr. Ha Tov and Mr. Ha Ra Having for Dinner?

I mean...

Besides your souls, of course.
Tov would have fruit and veggies. Ra would have Ice cream and beer.

Whatever food is served, if I am cooking it then it it will be good quality. If I am cooking a simple hamburger it will be made from ground chuck at the very least, probably wrapped around bacon in the middle of it. Especially with food my motto is if it is worth doing it is worth doing right.

There are so many variables. Am I cooking to impress, or to fatten, or my favorite meal (which coincidentally is also to fatten).

I'll go with the impress route. Slow cooked roast beef along with a horseradish cream sauce. Roasted brussel sprouts and garlic. Either steamed broccoli or brown rice. Whole grain baguette from the grocery bakery. Ice cream for dessert. Something vanilla based with chocolate. Like moose tracks.

Also, I need to see what those sweets look like in the after shot. You cant show unmelted chocolate and not show the gooey goodness.
