Here's a helpful table. I'm not going to post the picture here because it has a cuss word.

Unless you are using a downloaded sewing pattern, most sewing patterns should have a conversion chart on the back.

Otherwise, I say about one and a quarter.

My work: Finding Yardage Needs by Fabric Width - dummies

Used the conversion chart. Located the closest to 1 2/3 yard. Went on the higher side, since 5/8 is about 63%, 2/3 is about 66%, and 3/4 is about 75%. This also give you extra material for additional adjustments you may need to make that you are not aware of.

Also, be aware some pattern pieces need to go with the grain of the fabric.

Fractions and conversions are not generally done in 3rd grade. That's more about 5th grade.

I took a basic math course in college. I was surprised how much I forget as I was now accustomed to using a calculator for even the most basic equations.

If you need 1.66 yards of 45" material, you need "x" of 60" material.

45" material is 75% the width of 60" material (45/60). Therefore, if you need 1.66 yards of 45" material, you need, theoretically, 75% of 1.66 yards of material or (1.66 x 0.75) or 1.245 yards of 60" wide material.
That's the same mistake I made the first time. You calculated how much more fabric it would be if the roll was 60" wide instead of 45" wide...

Need to calculate how much of 60" fabric she needs, no more, no less.

The problem is that when you add width, you will have to subtract length to keep the amount of fabric the same...

The correct answer is 1.25yards (45")

The weight part is easy.... 1 kilogram = 2.2 pounds

So just multiply your weight in kg by 2.2

I'm happy to say, Molly's answer is correct!!

There shall be 0 ounces of lima beans for me.

I want to thank everyone for the time they've taken in giving their answers!!

My head is spinning, but I am reading (and re-reading) them all.

Keep posting as you see fit!

Maybe every now and then, someone will throw out another problem-solving thread, just to keep us all on our toes.

Why not make a thread in which people post math problems for others to solve?

You're an old pro at writing threads, Zero! It would be a piece of cake for you.

And Lynx, sorry I didn't answer... As far as a cloak goes... I'd need to find a pattern first and take a look at it. Unfortunately, I'm not all that skilled--just basic things, really, and I'd get nervous about making something for someone from such a distance (meaning I couldn't do any fittings, though a loose-fitting cloak might be feasible.)

If you sent me some pics, I'd have to see if there are some patterns in existence that would be close to what you're looking for. I know some people who are so talented they don't even need patterns, and can pretty much improvise anything, but unfortunately, I'm not one of them.

I did not even read the OP or any others. For all I know this could be the most humorous of best thread here.
Just that after spending a grueling hour doing math HW with my 2 girls the last thing I want to do is more math. Not even 2+2.
    Have fun.
