Truly no preference, I've had great bosses and less-than-stellar bosses of both genders.

I fully understand. I used to work for Walmart too.

...I have to add that there was one male boss I had who was awesome. He also happened to be from the middle east and was muslim, but he was the kindest most thoughtful boss I ever had and he also was eager to help out whenever he could. He actually had a heart attack one day while working and passed away. It was very sad because he had a teenager daughter and a wife who he was still married to. The wife was a doctor so hopefully they were ok financially.

My boss now is a husband and wife couple. She's more the boss though. I like them both just fine

If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until you can hardly bear to look at it.

A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.

I like working under a male boss, because they will never suspect I am disagreeing with them or not respecting them enough because of their gender. I only have one "boss", and I don't lower myself before or am awestruck by the authority of humans. This doesn't mean I don't respect their position and honor my working commitments and their requests related to work, but interpersonally I try to keep us equals.

If they are a good boss and understand the extent of this role there are no issues regardless of gender, if they have unstable egos and need to be checked often, this is so difficult if they are women because it's misconstrued or they use their gender to their advantage to "win" in these situations.

I prefer a male boss. It's worked better in my experiences, but it could have just been where I was working. I worked for a company that was run by women one time.
It seems to me that authority like that isn't compatible with a woman's strengths.

Interesting posts. It made me think it as actually my own attitudes that were wrong with some of the female bosses I have had. I guess I still have to learn to be more humble, as I am a work in progress.

    I been doing some thinking.

If you are a female, and you're in, say, law enforcement or in the armed forces, and you're commanding others...

aren't you really a TRANSgender boss because the clothes they are making females wear are rather...

    ...manly...

    LOL.

    Sorry, couldn't resist.

To the OP: It depends on the job. I've had guys and girls as boss at work. I've had lazy bosses, demanding bosses, uncaring bosses and bosses who actually had a good work ethic and did their jobs right, and all of those I have seen in both genders.

For a job that requires a lot of empathy, a lot of understanding people and how to work with them, a woman would probably be better. Women are good at talking to people and working out people situations. I've had some male managers who were good guys and tried their best, but they just didn't get people.

For a job that is fast paced and high stress a man would be better. My current store manager had a nervous breakdown yesterday. We are going through a remodel but we are trying to keep the store open and serving food, and some things happen along the way that cause high stress if you're trying to keep a store functioning during a remodel. She's a great person and a good manager, but she just can't handle the stress right now.

Men have inherent strengths and weaknesses and women have inherent strengths and weaknesses. Some men are better as managers for some jobs, some women are better as managers for others. Just depends on the job at hand.

For myself, I know I'm not a leader. I'm a better henchman. Let the boss decide what to do, then the boss tells me what to do and I'll make it happen. Somebody being rude in the drive-through, sitting blocking traffic and cussing the cashier out? Freezer stopped working and we're about to lose a lot of food to melting? That's the boss's problem. If you need me to do something I'll be over here at the grill doing my job.

When I was 17 I had a female boss and when the job ended I said to myself "I will never work under a female again" and 40 years later I still haven't done so. When I was in my 30's I work under a black man and after the job ended I said to myself "I will never work under another black man" and I have not done so. I am not a bigot, but I find that these are ego-driven, oversensitive, and lack experience dealing with white males. This is just my case, and I wasn't will to give it a second try.

I worked for two husband-wife couples. The first couple were a really nice mexican couple who owned a successful small business. They were so nice. They treated me like I was part of their family.

The other couple was caucasian. The guy was nice, but the wife was someone that no one who worked there liked. She was very critical and blunt and everyone had to walk on eggshells around her.

I want to add that the reason I don't work for any of these great bosses anymore is because they sold the company while I was working there and the new bosses were nothing like they were...

I prefer males. But that might be because I've had some rock-star male bosses, and very few females. Like has been stated, I think it is about individual personality more than gender.
“If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our dead bodies. And if they perish, let them perish with our arms wrapped about their knees, imploring them to stay. If Hell must be filled, let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go unwarned and unprayed for.”

Are you saying women can be bosses?
    Is that a thing now?

Bit of a wide brush there. It's I'd like to know the definition of "bigot" if it doesn't include defining an entire race by the traits of just one or two people.

Yup, that's a good idea, deciding millions of people (billions in the case of women) are like that based on one person.

You know what the stereotype is for white americans? They are all fat, loud, obnoxious, they like shotguns and they love hamburgers. And I believe it too, because there was this neighbor I had 17 years ago, he lived three doors down from me, he was a white male and he was all those things.

So do we still want to talk stereotypes and broad-brushing?

    Loophole...
A boss that has an idea what in fried chicken they are doing and have an idea of a goal for their business, and they notice who works and who doesn't and pays wages according to that basis.
If you don't believe in true love then please don't tell me not to believe in it because I believe it to be real.

    You are perfect?
self righteousness is as filthy rags the bible says.
You might wanna reconsider that ideal.

Seriously though, it doesn't matter to me. As long as I'm not micro-managed.
So you're telling me this is a signature line??
