Do you have anything that is so important that you have a backup just in case? A backup freezer, backup car, backup watch? (Do people still wear watches?)

I have a backup vehicle because it's important to me to be able to get to work if my car goes down and I HATE asking to borrow somebody's car. It didn't cost much and it doesn't look like much, but it runs. I asked a friend who is a car dealer to keep an eye out for "Something cheap and dependable. I don't care if the AC works, I don't care if the radio works... I do have a slight preference for it not leaking on me when it rains, but that's negotiable. I just want something that will crank every time and get me to work and back." And that's what he found me.

I have a backup phone, because my phone is my home internet connection. If my main phone goes down I can always pull the sim card and put it in my backup. I also have a backup battery because my phone has a battery THE USER CAN ACCESS AND SWAP OUT! That's a rarity these days.

I have backup shoes... well, backup slip-resistant overshoes. I work on a greasy floor and slip-resistant is mandatory.

I have a backup laptop... well, I have three actually but I'm using them all for different things. But if one went down I could run on two while the replacement third one was shipping.

Speaking of backups, have you backed up your important pictures yet? Wise computer guru saying: If your files don't exist in at least three places, they don't really exist. I have two external hard drives. I'm not going to lose my music collection if I can help it.

So what about y'all? What is important enough in your life that you bought a backup for it in case it ever suddenly fails?

I'm thinking about getting some backup shoe laces for my work boots. They broke last week and I resorted to tying the pieces in knots to keep the boots on. I did replace them but probably should have gotten an extra pair. I have found out in life that it is usually the little things that fail that can ruin your day.

Plan A should always have plan B and maybe even plan C...but does this show a lack of faith or just preparedness to keep on movin' on without hesitation? Hmmm?

That's so funny. A friend was telling me she was looking for a backup car and I was talking her out if it, but I guess it's not as strange as I thought. I kept saying to her "who does that?" lol

You mean, is there anything so important to us that just in case it suddenly malfunctions, we keep a spare?

Like a girlfriend?

most of these items aren't important but I do have backups..

-umbrellas...one at home, one at work, one in car, one in purse
-plain black hairbands
-one extra tube of a discontinued lipstick
-house keys, mail key, but not my car key.

I have backups of important data. No need for backups of anything else in my life. If a situation is too dire that I need a backup of something, I figure I deserve what's coming to me.

Which reminds me: Many long years ago when I was en route to visit Mom, at a freeway exit gas station I locked my keys in my car. Fortunately the local locksmith always ate breakfast at the diner just across the road... After that incident my mommy told me to always keep a spare car key in my wallet.

Since then I have occasionally locked my key in the car, but I have never again needed to disturb a locksmith's breakfast.
