In a Valentines Dance, I think that I'm the most likely to crash a helicopter into the venue, steal all the snack bowls, and fly off into the sunset, tbh. :/

The one school dance I went to (homeschool group) was kinda, well...stupid . The cool thing was that it was western themed, so I totally dressed to the hilt: boots, hat, drawstring ruffled shirt (think Spanish), boldly patterned skirt with cancan skirt, braids...wonderfulness . But the dance itself was kind of wild and not actually much real dancing.

I'm more a fan of the local square dancing/ballroom dancing that we have around, which actually takes talent! Those I try to get to once a month, and I wear much tamer skirts and less costumey stuff lol

I went to one dance while I was still in public school and I ended up holding everyone's jackets . I was there with my friend and her boyfriend whom I had a huge crush on long before he liked her... lol he did ask me to slowdance with him and one of my biggest regrets ever is that I said no. I was very shy and didn't want him to pity dance with me. He was genuinely a good guy though and I think he wanted to make sure I didn't feel left out.

A few other strangers asked me as well and I said no to all of them ...in my mind I expected the bucket of pigs blood scenario like in the movie Carrie. I wasn't exactly in the popular crowd... or any clique besides the "wishing I could disappear " kids. I got picked on a lot so I wasn't convinced it wasn't all a cruel joke. Anywho.. Michael was the only one I regretted saying no to.
If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until you can hardly bear to look at it.

A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.

I went to quite a few high school dances...all of them were stupid. But, they were a good time with my friends, and we never could pass up an excuse to get dolled up. Pretty sure all our heads were full of heavily perfumed and hairspray tainted air...

    Memorable moments from dances-

•Hanging out in the corner with my friends, all of us totally confused by the fact that the DJ always played “Baby Got Back” and all the skinny popular girls would rush to climb up on this half-wall that split the room to shake their non-existent booties. Happened at every. single. dance. What even...

    • I didn’t have a date to my junior prom, but I’d bought my dress months ahead- it was a kind of smoky gray/purple color, flared out a little at the waist, nothing fancy but the color was just so me. Couldn’t hold a candle to the gorgeous dresses the “in” crowd wore, but I loved it. My cousin’s date very generously looked after me and a couple of our friends- even danced with each of us and drove us there. Nice guy. Think he’s married to a man now. Anyway! He’s important to remember because-

    • I had dropped out of school, but totally crashed what would have been my senior homecoming dance (I bought a super glitzy, super cheap periwinkle stretchy backless dress and regretted it every second I was wearing it). There were a couple guys, I think maybe big in track or something, that kept coming over to my group of friends and saying awful things to us. One of them was the guy who’d been my cousin’s prom date. We ignored them most of the night, they were obviously drunk and not worth wirrrying about. But then, they came over and starting bumping into my friend (prom date guy). More like dancing/jumping into him, pushing him around, tripping him. And I lost it. I hitched up my too-tight skirt and stomped in my strappy heels over to them and shoved both guys away from my friend. They fell down, looked up and saw me, hopped up and left the dance.

P.s.- Pipp! I’m so sad your only dance was like that You’re one of the most beautiful people and beautiful souls here.

Lynx - Most likely to bring a wildly popular snack to the party, then lament the absence of leftovers.

Happens every single time. Either I'm too good at knowing what the majority likes to eat or I make too little.

I am really enjoying everyone's answers and participation, thank you!

I hope everyone who stops by this thread will want to make a reply. Just a few thoughts:

    * It makes me sad to read about people's stories of being rejected--whether in the form of a box of candy or their heart on a platter. I guess the good news is that none of us are alone in that respect--we've all been rejected in some way.

And, to be honest, when I look back, I'm pretty sure it was a good thing that the ones who rejected me did so, or it probably would have led to a series of further bad choices on my part.

    * My idea for this thread was that hopefully everyone would want to stop in and feel like they could find their own part of the fun--kind of like a big CC Meetup rather than a big, showy social event where people would feel like that HAD to find a date.

After reading some of the answers, I'm thinking I would forego asking a date just so that I got a chance to at least say hello to everyone who showed up.

I've always said that I am an introvert who can masquerade as an extrovert when needed, and this would be a perfect time to put on my super secret costume (in this case, a prom dress, apparently) and don my alter ego.

    * Maybe in the future we can have some similar threads that feature things like virtual pizza parties, movies, gaming, and hobby nights.

I always hold out a hope that if we can create a fun, honest, and open place to come and "hang out" (even if it's only virtual), we are all helping each other make the burden of singleness (and loneliness) just a little bit lighter.

This kinda cracked me up a little. A home school dance? I know you said homeschool group so..... it's just... funny. It's like a home school pep rally. So Bob says "hey you wanna go to the dance with me?" Sue - "I'm your sister, Bob".

I get family reunions and home school dances (and dating opportunities) confused ALL the time. (Just kidding, Tin!!!!)

(Actually... being adopted... I actually COULD date my cousin. But, we won't go there.)

True fact: in twenty states, most (all??) of Europe, Canada, and Mexico, it is legal to marry your first cousin. And Kim, depending upon where you live, you might not be exempt from this. There are 27 states that totally forbid first cousin relationships, INCLUDING (it seems!) adopted cousins. Yes, I did the research .
