Howdy Singles!

As we've talked about, Single's Awareness Day is nearly upon us!

Yes! It's that lovely time of year when every store, merchandiser and commercial seems to scream, "HEY, WE SEE YOU POOR, LONELY SINGLE PEOPLE OUT THERE--THAT'S YOU, YES, YOU, AND WE ARE HERE TO TELL YOU JUST HOW SINGLE YOU ARE!! AND IF THAT'S NOT ENOUGH TO SHOW YOU THAT YOU ARE SINGLE AND ALONE, WE HAVE THOUSANDS OF GIMMICKY PRODUCTS AT EVERY TURN TO REMIND YOU!"

Well I say, phooey humbug on all of that, man! Why can't we singles make our own way, kick up our heels, and have a little fun in our own right?

Therefore, I present to you, The Official CC Singles Forum Valentine's Day Dance! :D If any of you remember the CC Singles Yearbook thread, this is what I was really gearing up for.

Here's how it works: if you'll just give me a few minutes, I am going to write out some hopefully fun categories that will be multiple-choice and open for everyone to see. Just choose all the categories that fit you, and then click on the blue numbers as people answer, and it will show you who voted, and where they put themselves.

I am hoping for 100% participation if this thread is possible--meaning that I hope everyone who reads this feels free to join in on the fun! And, if you don't see a category that describes you, then I want you to show that poll just who's boss and make up a category of your own in your post!!! This is a way so that hopefully everyone can get in on the fun!

* I would also like to hear your stories, good and bad, about attending school/church functions, and social events, such as dances and proms. :) Who did you go with, what and where did you eat, and how did it go?

I never had much luck with school dances. I can think of two separate times when I asked boys I liked... and they told me they were "working", "going to be with family", or "piloting a drone to Mars" (at least I think that's what one of them told me...) and then I found out later that they wound up going to the dance--with one of my friends. No wonder Mars has yet to be more thoroughly explored.

By the time I hit my junior prom, my friends were SO confident that I'd find someone to go with that they banded together and bought me a stuffed bear outfitted in a little a tuxedo, and told me that THIS could be my date for the night. I love my friends.

* Speaking of outfits, I am also interested in what people wore. Back then, I wore a frilly, ruffly, girly girl, fluffy pale pink gown that would have put Cinderella to shame-- and being so short, I'm pretty sure I looked like a giant bell--as in, the ringing kind, not a tall, elegant gorgeous Southern woman (the belle of the ball.)

These days, I'd be more likely to borrow a pair of overalls from Depleted and throw on my favorite pair of sneakers. But if by some chance I did have a date, I just might try to be presentable. :)

Ok, everyone. It's time to kick up our heels and have some fun!!! Please have a look a the poll, and like I said, if nothing seems to fit you, make up a category of your own and post it! And for those who DO find things they can relate to in the poll, tell us why they describe you. :)

Don't forget to tell us your old school dance stories!!!

I'm hoping everyone who stops by this thread will at least walk away with a smile or laugh. :) Our married friends are invited to participate too, seeing as they already have a date. :)

Happy Single's Awareness Day, Everyone. <3

It doesn't have to be a dance...

It could be any kind of event, such as at your church or in the community. :)

Mostly... I'd like to hear people's stories about any and all kinds of social events they've attended (or been forced to attend, lol.)

Been there and done that, too.

Ok, so far, judging from the poll...

MissCris and I shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the dance floor.

Maybe we'll need someone to enforce that... But at least you've all been warned in advance.

I never went to dance in school. I figured no one wanted to go with me, so I never asked anyone.

If you had asked me, I would have called in sick to work, blown off the boring family function, and aborted that mission to Mars.;)

I'm thinking about combining two categories I picked..... I'd be most likely to propose marriage, after spending too much time face down in the punch bowl.

Ok...

I'm going to go against the grain here and add another write-in category...

"Most Likely to Arrest Someone Before the End of the Night..."

And, a nominee...

Tommy, of course.

So...

You've obviously already started on the punch bowl.

And it hasn't even been set out yet.

Lol!

Most likely to kill the bottle of Jim Beam and start listening to old Bocephus songs when the party has died down and she is among the few still wide awake?

Yup

Most likely not to even show up. Never been to an official dance.
I used to line dance and two step in Texas.
Most likely to invite a date over to have dinner and watch a movie or play games.

Then we'll be sure to make part of it a Texas line dance, just for you, LH!!!

I totally understand that a "dance" might not be some people's thing.

Truthfully, I only went because it was "the" thing to do, and most of my friends were going.

Maybe in the future we can make up a thread in which we choose other activities to talk about.

I'm guessing that maybe a movie marathon or online gaming event might be a little more in tune with some people's radar, and that's just fine.

Lynx - "Most likely to play the conversational butterfly, flitting from group to group to listen to as many conversations as possible." I don't generally talk much in social groups, but I like listening. I'm a semi-pro listener.

Most likely to come with emergency kit consisting of earplugs and a kindle for when the dance gets boring and I need to climb inside a good book. Also most likely to sneak off and find a dark quiet hallway to sit in when the time came to use said emergency kit.
