As the poster boy for anyone single, it's a sham. Its basically make everyone not in a relationship feel miserable type of day.

It also puts pressure on those who are in a relationship to step it up and express your love through flowers, candy, balloons, giant teddy bear, cards, romantic dinner for 2 etc..

I was talking to a woman the other day who was very angry with her boyfriend because after dating for nearly one year, Valentine's Day rolled around last year and he did absolutely NOTHING for her and treated it as if it were just another day. She said he spent the day butchering a cow and this year had better be different!

I do not think anything is a sham, if its done/given from a humble Heart, of GODS LOVE, & giving. May GOD have the GLORY, for one special day in the year, for showing someone, how much we Love, & Appreciate, them! Amen & Amen!

    Love & Hugs!

Yes, businesses will take every opportunity to cash in on anything. But that's how the world operates without the Lord. No reason to be surprised, we were also like that at one time. Even so, Jesus took every opportunity to glorify God and reveal His great love to us in all circumstances. He attended weddings, funerals, dinners, social gatherings, holiday celebrations, the synagogue, anywhere people congregated. I think it’s so awesome that Jesus makes His appearance thru us, His children to folks in all walks of life and in everyday events. He reaches people where they’re at. Most people are vulnerable during holidays so it’s a great time to shine the light of God to them, don’t you agree?

The Pharisees accused the Lord of being a drunk, of being rebellious, breaking traditions, of associating with prostitutes & riffraff, even being of the devil. They didn’t understand because they were not walking by faith in God alone. Jesus was literally showing them the way to live, to not make ourselves of any reputation, to be unpretentious and approachable, to be genuine friends with the wounded souls around us and to let them see God’s love for them thru us in all circumstances. Like on Valentine's Day.

I didn’t see a temple in the city because the Lord God All-Mighty and the Lamb are its Temple. The city didn’t have need for the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the Glory of God gave it light; the Lamb is the Light.

Well, if she doesn't respond to your post, I'll send you a greeting on Valentine's Day.

    Thank you. You're very kind.
28 years and no one has stepped forward to say "It was me."

Mind you though I did leave that town in 1993 and I haven't been
    back since then.
    That probably didn't help.
I knew I should have left a forwarding address!!

Valentine's Day is NOT a sham if you're in the business of selling greeting cards, flowers, or candy.

If you sell greeting cards, flowers, or candy, then Valentine's Day is a very serious day.

Florists say their businesses depend on Valentine's Day in
which they make as much money as Mother's Day.
As much as the rest of the year.
    I suppose it creates employment.
Especially in China where most of this stuff is made.
Oh well at least the flowers are local (so far).

My email is getting bombarded by advertising for guns. Any holiday that comes up is met with ads. Valentine's day is no different. Most of mine are from firearms retailers. It's funny cause:

Show her you care with Glock.

Nothing says I love you like a Smith and Wesson M&P Guard.

Skip the flowers and show her how much she means with a can of ammo.

When love is in the air, Walther protects the ones you love.

I'd probably buy a special lady a Glock 26 with a CrossBreed holster. I'm a sucker for romance.

One time a guy from cc kinda liked me and wanted to come down to Georgia to visit and he was a gun enthusiasts so he messages me and tells me "I want to come see you ..I'll bring my guns..." I was like "how bout we don't "

He came to Georgia anyway to see a family member of his, fortunately for me we had a freak ice storm and my whole county was covered in thick ice and the roads were unusable.

If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until you can hardly bear to look at it.

A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.

Well maybe the Glock would be better suited as an anniversary gift.

Definitely. It can be a scary thought as a meeting gift though.

Let's see...it started as another Christianized version of a pagan holiday, just like Christmas and Easter.

However, like Christmas (and maybe like Easter), Valentine's Day has changed. Today, it's the western world's excuse to buy chocolate and sweets. (Although, I do recommend waiting a day for chocolate and sweets to go down in price )

As I don't have anyone to knit to, I have to settle with knitting something to myself. Perhaps something in alpacca. Wrist warmers, maybe. Or a traditional cap, but with a fake fur top on it.

I was kind of online dating a guy once, and his dream of an IRL date was to have a day on the shooting club. Would I be OK with even holding a gun, or seeing one? Not sure, if it is not something eatable at the end of the aim.

After work, I headed to Wally World, first time I've been there in a year. I got some socks that are quiting on me. I walk in to see no less then 5 aisles devoted to the celebration of love. This is when I remember the day is fast approaching, and I have two little ones. What kind of father would I be, if I didn't get them something?

When I was married, every year, I would get my wife a stuffed lion. Anyone who knows me, would see how the lion matches my identity. It was kind of cool thing, unfortunately if I ever got married again, I'd have to come up with some tradition that is way better. Going to be hard to top.

I was wondering if anyone on here was the kind to buy Valentine's day, or to make it. Is this a sham, pushed upon us?
What kind of Valentine's day traditions do y'all have? What would y'all expect on Valentine's day from a lover? What do y'all have going on the 14th?

I'm supposed to be off that day. I may share some grilled salmon with my cat Callie.
